Thanks for the shout out. This performance was actually live. Up until the late ‘90s it was customary for singers on TV to play to a backing track for budget reasons. So whilst there is a backing track, the vocals are live. There’s no doubt he has skills many vocalists only dream of, the song isn’t for everyone and I get that. But it was the early ‘70s and there was a lot of experimentation in Australia around psych rock and other genres of the post Beatles era. Thanks again for your support!

You've stumbled on a really talented singer in Russell Morris. Even in more recent clips, he is still that good 🎉🎉

I totally get everyone is allowed to have their own taste, but please try his classic song, The Real Thing. This is from his page. From 2023, so it is many years after its release in 1969.
      Complete with an orchestra.

After that, please compare our gals version, with Mahalia Barnes, Kate Ceberano, and Nikka Costa. The girls rock it, in my opinion.

I appreciate your reaction Greg. Russell Morris was part of my youth and his songs form the fabric of my time.
Like others have commented, he is great live and is still performing at a high standard and putting out new music.
    A real journey man🙂

G'day Greg. When this song came out it sounded to me like a hot-potch of ideas thrown together to ride the back of his runaway hit single, The Real Thing. Too many tempo changes, major/minor sections back to major choruses, falsetto vocals...urk! But, when he emerged in the early 2000's as a blues artist, simpler songs, cut back arrangements and a mature voice, he proved to be an authentic talent, well worth your attention if you feel the urge.

Nice reaction. There is a terrific UA-cam of him singing It's All Over Now Baby Blue. I think it is terrific.

Russell put out a record about 10 years ago called Sharkmouth. Black Dog Blues from that is a great song and worth listening to. He has had a long musical career and of course his song The Real Thing from 55 years ago is an Oz classic.

Each to his own - thsnks for the honest reaction. He is good live. I recommend the live performance of Russell Morris - "Wings of an Eagle" 2007 version (Peter Donelly Channel)

I am the same with some singers. I know Michael Bolton can sing but when his music was on the radio back in late 80's it was like scratching finger nails on a blackboard for my ears to hear his voice. Might have been around same era but I remember I could not stand his songs and some Guns and Roses song on a radio but they seemed to be on rotation so if I got into someone else's car I would just have to be tortured as they were on so often. The singers voice is good but does not grab me or torture me So would be ok if it was on a car radio for five minutes. Looks like it from well before my time anyway.

I think the CIA used Michael Bolton in their "enhanced interrogation" techniques.
