What a fabulous experience we had at his concert in Melbourne. The added bonus was the orchestra, added another dimension to the show. Brilliant show Russell, your voice is still amazing.
I'm 64yo and i remember him on centerspread posters in the TV guide. He always seemed so cool to me. He was always dressed very stylishly. I just love him yes im a fan boy and this performance shows that he's still got it. He was a revelation in the late 60s and early 70s.
There are rare songs that transcend time and space..... This is one. Incredible. What a time to be alive in 1969.... Its like the world suddenly woke from its sleep!!
Russell Morris you are THE REAL THING. Monday night Hamer Hall blew me away, fantastic show that every music lover should go see. The orchestra and your band made for one of the best live concerts I have been to. Thank you so much, memories forever.
I was 13 when 'The Real Thing's was released in 1969 and I thought it was the best Australian rock song ever. Now in November 2023 I'm 67 and I think it's the best rock song ever - Australian or otherwise. A great song it caught the feel of the 1960's and still carries that vibe of the era. This is the best version I've heard, combining Russell Morris, backing singers, band and orchestra brilliantly. Of course I'm not a musician, tone deaf in fact; but I can recognise talent and professionalism perfectly combined. With modern medicine advancing all the time is another 60 years possible. Live long and prosper, Russell. 👍🇦🇺🖖
Thank Clive Palmer for suggesting to Russell to perform with an orchestra behind him. Apparently Clive Palmer has been a big fan for a long time. He also put his money whre his mouth is and funded the entire project. It has revitalised Russell's career. Hats off to both. great sound.
Some years ago Russell Morris played at my kids Primary School fete. I had no idea it was going to happen, just heard the music playing when I was inside the school hall and was puzzled because it sounded live but was too accurate. So I went outside to see and was amazed to see the man himself playing, thanks Russell. I actually found this video because of the current search for a Matilda's chant for the FIFA World Cup and 'The Real Thing' just popped into my head. How about something like "you are the real - thing. Ma ma ma ma ma - ma ma ma ma Ma-tilll-das" or "Come and see the Matildas, come and see,. Come and see the real thing, come and see".
Superb effort from Russell … i was a fan back in 1969 … great to hear he still has both voice and timing. Orchestration reaonably faithful to the original complex piece. Excellent.
The Adelaide show was killer, Russell is an amazing singer and seems to improve every time I see him and that is plenty. Great orchestra and I was pleased to see Peter Robinson on guitar again, a great player.
Saw the Caprettos at Twin Towns and now this is a must. Appropriate that what SHOULD be our Anthem finally received the proper fanfare. Power on, legend.
I only wish my voice would remain so good with age. I guess training and lots of practice would've helped preserve it and I might be blowing away the videoke audiences. I hope before he goes he will finally tell where he got the inspiration for Bloodstone and why he could not or would not ever do such an album again.
I have to admit that I've had little awareness of this tune. I was born in 1971, and so the tune predates that. Yet, I've had recollections of it due to my parents. Listening to it now, and this version performed just recently, feels to me almost magical. Awesome!
I'll bang on for a bit longer. When I grew up, I never got into rock and so on. Despite my parents. I discovered the joys of disco, dark wave, industrial, and various other forms of electronica. This tune, "The Real Thing", would totally fit within any set played by any dropkick DJ in a club spinning psychedelic trance.
I reckon Johnny Young would be chuffed that someone as good as Russell Morris sang his song all those years ago, is still singing it now and doing it such justice
by far the greatest music hit in Australian history. never heard anything like it ever just a all-around classic. Just a shame he stuffed it up with drugs he was on his way .
The big question is: Does the concert include the flip side of the original 45 rpm single i.e. 'Part 3 Into Paper Walls?' It was a more than worthy follow-up to The Real Thing with a similar epic quality....ua-cam.com/video/zKHzUHb6g4Q/v-deo.html
where is greechie? fuck me a symphony for a great aussie song seen russ and co do this for a long time ,, must be a woke thing to do something like this ?

My favourite Aussie artist ever. Simply Brilliant. Thank You.

For 25 long years , I was not permitted to hear music, in person or even on car radio….. now I am free to finally catch up.
And it feels like heaven.
Why?
😊 This is The Real Thing!
Have seen Russel live twice in the last 5 years - easily the best of the ''old'' Australian rockers going around today. Still has it in spades!
Sensational
I was there for this show - it was the best!!! Russell Morris is an under -rated Australian performer and song-writer. He was brilliant. 😀😀.
One of, if not the best of Australian songs.
Yep, especially in the context and technology of the times.
Great !
There are rare songs that transcend time and space..... This is one. Incredible. What a time to be alive in 1969.... Its like the world suddenly woke from its sleep!!

FRICKING AWESOME! Showing my age now, GO RUSSELL!
I feel he has more substance in his singing now than in the 60's. Love his voice now❤

Brilliant , A legend 😎

Still love this song! Way to go Russell!
I reckon Johnny Young would be chuffed that someone as good as Russell Morris sang his song all those years ago, is still singing it now and doing it such justice
I can’t believe it’s got only 300 likes!!!
by far the greatest music hit in Australian history. never heard anything like it ever just a all-around classic. Just a shame he stuffed it up with drugs he was on his way .

Still our best singer of all time check out A thousand suns featuring tartan lines great album
Still got it mate👍👍
So the Live CD is coming out soon, however what about a DVD?
More likely to be a “ Streamer” than hard DVD product even if a lot of interested people will be from the VHS/DVD era. Lucky to get a CD!
I rember this sureal tune while wagging upwey high school while another friend was getting body painted fair f,,,,,,cks still fabulous

You will have to come to find out but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
It was the opening song of the concert.
Russell.. you dated my mum in the 70s
" song of the ages " ( should have been a world wide hit maybe bad timing with release )
Ha ha ha!! Russell exceeded his remarkable 1969 achievement. Who would have thought it possible!
Russell Morris is indeed, The Real Thing!
Seen you live with 2 guitars in Cairns. Orchestra doesn't make it better😢
At least he made some profit in cairns ..imagine the wage bill with that orchestra
What a lege😂
where is greechie? fuck me a symphony for a great aussie song seen russ and co do this for a long time ,, must be a woke thing to do something like this ?
Unlike Meatloaf and Darryl Braithwaite, Russell has not lost his voice. Rusty Morris smashed The Real Thing out of the park!!
