Something else to consider is batteries in parallel double the amp hour, batteries in series remains the same as stated. So a 24 volt system is still only 100 amp hour but a 24 volt system typically draws less current for the same amount of work as a 12 volt system.

It might make a spark when you remove the FIRST cable from the battery, cover it with a rag just in case you have a parasite, or something is ON.

There are other factors to consider. The lithium battery will allow you to drain it almost all the way down. So you can pull a full 100ah out of it. Now with the lead acid or agm batteries if you drain them more than 50% you will damage them. So basically you would need a 200ah lead acid battery to get the same run time as a 100ah lithium battery.

The added cost up front when going to lithium iron phosphate for your housebank, is you will generally have to rewire the entire boat. The old 1,2,Both switches that all boats came with as little as 5-10 years ago that controlled the starter and the house bank are gone the way of the dodo. Now you will be adding in DC-DC charge controllers to connect your starter to your house bank for charging off of the alternator from your diesel, or solar panel array, or onboard generator, or wind generator if you are still rocking one of those in 2023. Every one of those devices will need it's own charge controller as well as a LIFEPO4 is going to destroy your alternator based on how greedily it will suck up current on the charge cycle.
I have never heard of Minnkota brand, but it is well known that Victron is pretty much the top of the market these days for your fully integrated electrical system in a RV or yacht. Swapping out the electrical system on my H33.5 is going to run 10,000$+ by swapping to lithiums once you account for the two charge inverters and the GX Bus with the displays. Once that's done, you won't have to do it again short of replacing failed electronics.
A big thing of note is that you will destroy, flat out destroy any lithium battery on the market trying to start your diesel up. They're trying but no manufacturer yet has a working solution there. Also, you may still need a THIRD AGM bank as well for your anchor windlass if you have a larger one, as they will draw too many amps for a lithium bank, as well as if you're upgrading one or two of your primary winches to electrical or hydraulic drive.
Just bought a new boat and in my life ive had 2 different dealers installed trolling motors one one my current boat andnone on my old one used small wores and a 30amp flew and they didn't remove the wing nuts on the battery wich they got lose and melted the wire the nect dealer installed a bugger wire with a 60 amp fuse and regular nuts on the battery so as long as i make sure the connections are tight i should be good to go

Price of the lifepo4 batteries dropped greatly. A 100ah can be grabbed for under 200 now.

Yes, lithium iron phosphate cranking batteries are definitely on the scene. The correct models are compatible with most outboards, just be sure to check the manufacturer. they make some for airplanes now. pricey,but they legally have to work, plane regs and all.
@@Wired2Fish I had upgraded my motorcycle battery to lithium and found out if it gets below 40 degreas it went dead on me and had to charge it back up of course with a charger that charged lithium batteries. Is this the case with these lithium batteries for baots?
I’ve had the same 3 lead acid batteries on my 36 volt trolling motor for the last 5 years. Nobody wants to spend 300-600 dollars for one damn battery
You've been extremely lucky or you use your boat once a year. I've been burning up marine batteries once a year.
@@mahler3789 it stays in the weather year round under a carport. I use it atleast on average once or twice a week and during the winter and really really cold days it will stay on Charge until the next time I get ready to use it. I never let them get drained down to a certain point either. I know the limits and I know how long I can use my trolling motor and how long my graphs will run for

@@mahler3789 I believe the main starting point to a battery going bad is 1. Cold weather and 2. letting it sit without being on a charge. Especially when your not using them a trickle charger at the least will keep them going for years to come
