*****Hello Our Great fellow riders, here is the start to making this oldie a goodie again. Hope it helps load your memory banks up. We were thinking someday we will put together the SWEET SCOOTS bike rally, you never know it could be bigger than Sturgis LOL Have a great day and ride safe and polish often*****
Years back someone I knew had their Z900 engine blasted with corn husks. The finish was almost like chrome plate. They clean and polish but don't scrape. They're might be better mediums nowadays. But 40 years back corn husks were amazing..
Thanks for making this video. I've recently bought myself a 1974 Honda CB K4 750/4 & am going to polish the alloy. You have given me everything I need to know to do that. Much appreciated 👍 Cheer's
Just found your video while searching for resto ideas on bikes. We just picked up an 07 Vulcan project bike yesterday. Poor thing sat in the elements for 3 years, was dumped & generally neglected. It's going to get Drifted! The aluminum is badly pitted & I've been polishing by hand. Tomorrow, I'm going buffer shopping for these gadgets! Thanks for the great info!
Absolutely Tanyac! Glad we could help!! Thanks so much for watching and sharing, hope you have a great week and all the best on bringing that 07 back to life my friend. mad Mike
Great video. I want to start restoring my 93 FZR 600. It has only 10000 miles on it, but the fairing and the fins need some restoring. Thankyou for giving me some tips on how to start.
I like to use lacquer thinner or acetone, then a medium scuff pad to a fine to get rid of the clear finish then the oxidation before attempting to actually polish.
Doing an old bike throughout the winter would be a great way to get through the cold weather.turn on the music and work while watching the bike transform into a shiny piece that you did with your hands. Great video mike.keep them coming
Good for you!! I watch a documentary here and there but I'm like you, I don't watch a lot myself, it's all crap anymore. Thanks for the view Mark, have a great week my friend. mad Mike
Try a area using aluminum aircraft stripper, then polish it. Those engines are painted and clear coated from the factory, the comprised finish is what looks bad. Using polish and friction to get the old finish off is time consuming. What you are ending up with does look great though. Thanks!
Edward thanks for that if it was the summertime here in mich we would have done that but we are in an enclosed area and that option is out for us ...the clear looks really deteriorated so it should sand off real easily my friend ...thanks brother mike
loving your video's its like your talking to me personally Do you have a video on cleaning the small buffing wheels? I am getting close to retirement age and I'm trying to teach myself motorcycle detailing as my next adventure in life.
We just use a small flat screwdriver, spin the wheel slowly and touch the screwdriver to it until all foreign matter is removed. Hope this helps James, thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer Sweet Scoots
Hello Sweet scoot, excellent video & very helpful, just purchased a Ducati Monster 20 years old & runs sweetly but just needs a bit of TLC on the ali to give her a bit of bling. Just Subscribed. Happy riding. 😀
Glad it helped Mark! Thank you for being here with us, we are finally getting all settled from our move to FL and will be getting back in the swing here on Sweet Scoots! Welcome to the fam my friend. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer Sweet Scoots
Thanks man!! I'm always looking to solve a problem and then I share it with others. Thank you for the view and comment, hope you have a great week my friend. mad Mike
I didn't say anything about removing pitting, as you see by the motor I'm polishing there isn't any pitting. But, if you have pitting, the obvious common sense thing to do is to use this amzn.to/4f3tZBo and get rid of it. Thanks. mad Mike
This is a FANTASTIC video. I was given an '86 Vulcan and need to do this to the engine. You mentioned another video to deal with heads and fins. Did you ever do that one? Also, what about sanding the large surfaces? Was there a video for that too?
I was just about to order some brass wheels and scotchbrite wheels for dremmel... so its recommended to use the white polishing discs/rods to clean an engine instead? My engine casing is 15 years old!
Use this, takes 2 or more applications and it will remove the clear coat amzn.to/3ttY5rE just make sure you let it sit overnight after each application. You can also use this amzn.to/3hNLBIE and remove it manually. Thank you for watching and asking Dustin, all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike
Im about to attempt this on a 1952 Honda Dream E-type engine. I just hope there's a way to make it look somewhere between corroded, and mirror finish; I'm not looking for a mirror finish as thats not how it was, but want to remove all the corrosion.
leeroy to gain the effect you are looking for you will most likely pass on doing complete polishing and stop where you find the finish you are looking for my friend. Also, if you like detailing your car or truck see our other channel Sweet Project Cars thanks Sweet Scoots Mike
We gave you a great start and the tools needed to start the job, just continue on with what we've shown here. The reason we did not finish the series, we had a collector that saw the bike and offered us an obscene amount for it, so she's gone my friend :) Stay tuned Eric, we have more to come, thanks for watching. mad Mike Sweet Scoots
mothers is amazing so give it a try and see if you like the results...if it doesn't work then the items are clear coated and have yellowed you will need to remove the clearcoat to get to the aluminum to polish it...

You can't clear coat it, you just have to keep up on it especially on the jugs, sorry. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week my friend. mad Mike
Don’t go over 600 grit on aluminum it makes the surface too smooth and the polish doesn’t like to bond as well with the metal leaving less of a shine unless you reallllly work the hell out of it
@@SweetScoots for example does bikes have gearbox ? Does they have a throttle body ? Are they air cooled or water cooled ? Do they have a cooling fan ?

I beg to differ, when you've been working on bikes for over 35 years, you get good at re-conditioning. Out of 248 bikes we have re-conditioned we had a total of 748,000 invested into them and after re-conditioning, we profited 427,000. Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike
