Considering all the new setup options with these newer cars, I'm really surprised that Subaru does not have a bunch of videos that customers can look at to understand how to use all the new features. You would think that someone would be more likely to buy one of their cars if they knew that there were "how to" videos made by Subaru. I'm glad we have Alex to demonstrate how to set up all of these options!
Thank you so much for this channel and the helpful Subaru videos. After many weeks of searching, I just bought a 2021 Legacy Premium. It’s my first Subaru and I absolutely love it so far but I’m still getting accustomed to the features/tech. As a young female, it’s great to find a trustworthy source of information in the automotive industry! 🙌🏼
Came from a 2011 Corolla and my new Outback is a huge game changer with airplay and the many many bells and whistles it offers. Thanks for covering this beautiful car as always
I have had my car almost 4 years before learning about car play!!!!! It would always ask if I wanted to enable it, but I didn't get what it was doing. I am so excited to use this! Thank you for the great videos:)
Great video, I use Apple Carplay as well and learned a few things. I did not know that I could change the appearance of the carplay screen from the head unit. Will be playing with that feature later...lol.
Thank you Alex....without the videos you make of your Subaru know-how I would not learn about my new/used and certified Outback Sedan 2022 .... Many Thanks Alex 😘🥲😓😱🧐💜
Hi Alex, my name is Bruce and I am 66 years old and will be turning 67 on September 6th, I retired after 40 years of driving a New York City transit bus in April 2023 and was waiting a little while to buy a new car and now was the time I just bought my first Subaru and I will probably be getting it around the end of July beginning of August. It is a 2025 Subaru Forster Touring the white with the black interior. My brother-in-law had bought a Forrester limited back in 2017 it was 2018 and loved his car always liked the Subarus, how safe they are and reliable and I knew they were coming out with this all new redesigned six generation and I just wanted to go and see what it look like so I went there and fell in love with it l think I’m going to really like this car and I’ve own a few different cars in my time anyway I love your videos on all the Subarus, particularly the forest touring. I’ve been trying to watch all of them to find out as much and everything I can about my new Forester that I am buying, so the question that I have for you if you don’t mind answering is I want to bring my Forester to the car wash maybe every couple of weeks after I get it and I would like to know What should I shut off so it does not get stuck in the car wash I think I know but I am not sure so could you please help me out and tell me thank you very much. I appreciate it and once again, love all your videos thank you.
I love it too except I keep wondering why Subaru chose to keep an empty spot on the right side of the Home Button. I mean, why not add another commonly-used shortcut button there instead of leaving it blank? Actually, I wish Subaru would give us the ability to customize whatever we wanted to have in the persistent toolbar. Oh well, maybe next update! A guy can dream.
I’ve learned a lot from your videos. We recently bought a 24 Outback Limited.. replacing a 2019 Crosstrek Premium.. the amount of new technology was a bit overwhelming.. finding your videos made things easy.
Hi Alex, I have a Crosstrek 2024. My question is do I need to warm up the car for a few minutes before driving. The rpm is about 1.8 when I starts the engine and it would be lowered to 1 after 2min. Sorry my question is unrelated to the video, but I remember you said we could ask anything😅. Thanks in advance.
I have seen another video regarding this. Can’t find it now but they recommended waiting till the blue temp light went off (2024 Forester) and the rpm’s dropped to below 1,000. Usually takes a little less than 2 minutes in the summer. Haven’t had it through a winter yet. Kinda annoying but I want the CVT to last so I will abide.
We just purchased our 5th Subaru a 2024 Outback! Your videos are exceptional and make getting the most out of our vehicle easy. Thank you for all your videos!
Hi! Thank you for the video. We bought a 2023 Forester Touring in October 2023, and we drive it a lot (we already have 17,500 miles on it). One thing that is driving us crazy is CarPlay. We both have iPhones and use cords to connect to the car. The issue we frequently experience is getting Spotify and/or Pandora to work after initiating CarPlay. Here's a scenario: we're driving, have Maps going, listening to Spotify. We stop to get gas. I leave the phone plugged in while the engine is off. When I restart the car, Maps will turn right back on, but Spotify will not play. I can see it playing on my phone, but the car is not playing any sound from it (typically has a screen with the pause button, but it's not reactive to touch). Another scenario: we're driving, have Maps going, I want to switch from Spotify to Pandora. I use the touch screen to switch, and Pandora won't load. I use the phone to bring it up, but it still won't load. I use voice command to get Siri to play whatever channel on Pandora, and that works. I've brought this up to our dealership, and they weren't sure what's happening. Whenever my husband uses the hotspot while I'm driving, the system says it's up to date. Any thoughts on this?
Purchased my 2022 Crosstrek two day ago and am overwhelmed by all the tech (just upgraded from a 22 yr old vehicle). If I plan to use Apple CarPlay do I still need to set up bluetooth since I need to plug in the phone?
Your videos are a great help. Just picked up our 8th Subaru (Otbk Ltd, 2024) on Saturday and so far, I’ve largely avoided reading the individual manual through these video. The only subject I’m still curious about is the Starlink packages.
Starlink gives you the options for roadside assistance/accident alert and the option to upgrade to remote access from your phone. Here's a video I made to share more details on this: ua-cam.com/video/uyaCBEdBUkU/v-deo.html
Thanks for the video. I’ve had my 2024 Crosstrek for less than a week now, and all your videos have been very helpful😁 Question though. Do you have any personal favorite products to help clean and maintain the dashboard, steering wheel and console screen? Thanks again!
I asked the body shop manager at my dealer when I had my 2018 outback He mixed a bottle of cleaner they use in the shop It goes a long way still using it and 3/4 full You not need to use much and it also work on the carpet areas I use it on everything except the info screen
Thanks Alex. I use CarPlay a lot, especially on long trips to listen to audiobooks and Spotify. The texting function works pretty well too! Word of warning: if you get an incoming FaceTime call, don’t answer it using CarPlay. Doing so will crash CarPlay and you’ll have to turn off the engine and restart everything. My dealer says this is a known problem and is hoping it will be included in the next software update.
Alex, how about a video showing me how to resolve this problem. Both my wife and I drive our 25 Outback Touring XT, but we can’t seem to get the phones to change when we switch drivers. We both have iPhones. Can you help?
Nice video as our some of your others. With this one, instead of touching the voice command button on the steering wheel with Apple CarPlay. You can also say hey Siri and let her know your command that way.
Hi Alex. We recently bought a 2025 Forester Limited. I like using Google maps but can’t figure out how to get google maps on the screen. The audio works fine using car play but I can’t see the route in the screen. It shows the Tom Tom navigation screen. Thanks!
I purchased a 2023 Crosstrek limited just 3 weeks ago and I love it! I was watching another video and it shows that I need to connect an iphone cable in order to connect to car play. Do I have to do this just once, or every time I want to use Car Play? I connect via Bluetooth to use Spotify. The volume is really low though. Anyway thank you for your videos ! I am learning a lot!
Congrats on your new Crosstrek! Yes, you'll have to plug into the cable each time you want to use the CarPlay in the 2023. It became wireless in 2024. Your 2023 has the advantage of charging your phone at the same time!
I love your videos! I have an Android phone. I like listening to UA-cam videos on my drive home from work. Is there a way to add UA-cam to my 2022 Forester screen, so I am not dealing with my phone?
I have the latest iOS (17.4.1) and the Save My Parked Location switch seems to have moved somewhere else. The Search function takes you to the Maps page, but the switch is GONE.
I have a 2018 Outback 2.5. It has only wired Apple CarPlay, however, it is not stable connected using the CarPlay. I only used once since I bought the car. I know the software is supposed but I changed many cables and different phones, it did not work any more.😢
I have a 2021 Outback and I see the apple play app but it is grayed out and won’t allow me to select it? Also, when pairing it didn’t allow me apple play like your video did?
Hey Alex, thanks for the video I have a crosstrek 2024, when I am using CarPlay I can not navigate through the map when using maps, waze or google maps But when I use android auto I can do it without problem Is that normal? In my old car I could do it with both ones
I have a 2024 Subaru Forester and I use Apple car play everyday. I just have 1 question. Whenever I’m driving and I want to use Siri, the volume is so low that I can barely hear Siri. Is there a way I can turn the volume up to where I can hear Siri either through my phone or Apple car play? As always, your videos are always informative and top notch.
I have an Android phone and a 2020 Outback. I have to plug my phone in to more access more apps on my phone. But the display is only on the top 1/2 of the screen, is there a way to get it on the full screen? Love you videos. Thanks.
I believe the full screen android auto became available after the latest software update. Next time you’re in for service, mention that you’d like them to check TSB: 15-305-22R for the update. Subaru more than likely won’t cover this for free unless you’re experiencing issues with it but it’s worth a shot
My iPhone 16 pro max will not connect car play wirelessly to my 22 forester sport. Why? Also, when wired, it keeps switching from all speakers to just the dashboard speakers. Help!
Have had my Forester for three years and never realize that there is a Subaru voice function. I’ll never use it, but it’s kind of neat to know it’s there.
Hello, I have a Subaru Levorg vn5 2020. How to connect CarPlay wirelessly, for some reason I can’t do it. and how to update starlink software via WiFi? is that possible?
@Alex Prestigiacomo do you know of any aftermarket lights for the forester cargo area ? ...not ones in the tailgate which wopuld be useless as soon as you step forward but ones on the side where the seat release is ./...Thanks
For some reason my seri is very low when I send a text message This just started a couple months ago this is on my 2021 forester Is there a way to up the volume my phone volume is all the way up
Alex, I love your videos! I have a 2024 Outback. CarPlay is connected, but some of my apps aren’t showing up on screen. I’ve gone through the process to add them, but they still aren’t showing up. Anyone have any ideas?
I've had a 2020 and presently have a 2022 crosstrek....on both vehicles, the carplay (not bluetooth, cable usb connection) app sometimes refuses to operate. What gives?
I have a 2021 Subaru Forester, and I use a Android phone, and it has the small radio screen. How do I set my phone and like you were doing in your outback and phone?
Hi Alex great content it’s been super helpful. Do Subarus have the ability to turn on the interior lights without opening the doors or hitting the unlock key fob? Sorry it’s a weird question
Hey Alex, great content and keep going. I have one question. I have a usb loaded with music in my forester 2021. Whenever i use apple carplay, it automatically cuts off the USB and the media player does not play music from it. But it never happens with my android phone. Do you know why it happens? Thank you
have u had any issues with carplay disconnecting randomly? it used to happen once every hour, now its getting worse and worse. 24 obw, i tried it on 4 different iphones and the same results. Subaru said there was no problem on subarus end. all 4 iphones are brand new. very annoying so now i have to run them wired
Mine has randomly disconnected but not often enough for it to be a problem. I’d keep taking it back to Subaru until it gets fixed. May need a new touch screen display
I have a 2020 Forrester and an android phone. Is there any way to connect to Android auto via Bluetooth? The cable connection constantly disconnects and is gonna cause an accident as I struggle to get the map back up on the display. Thank you
Hey, I’m having this problem with Apple CarPlay whenever it connects! My audio (whether Apple music, or car radio or incoming calls) will switch from whatever is music - let’s say music - to a radio station! This is so frustrating that I cannot keep it connected. Please help 😢 Edit: I’d like to ask that I have deleted and added the phone multiple times to no resolve )
Totally digressing here, but just wanted to mention that I had cut my arm washing my 2023 CT Premium. I didn't realize it but blood dripped down my arm onto the center section of my driver's cloth seat. I saw it and thought I'd never be able to remove this blood stain. All I had with me at the car wash was a spray bottle of interior protectant. I sprayed it on the stain not expecting it to work, but I was amazed to see that I was able to remove the blood stain without a trace, with a terrycloth cloth. I couldn't believe it! I was thinking that maybe Subaru treats it seats with some sort chemical that allows you to easily clean them? I was wondering if you knew anything about that? Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I just feel that Subaru had my back again, along with never failing me when I needed to go somewhere. 😎👍
Your spray protectant product probably did the heavy lifting. Even better, you treated the stain immediately, which is always the "first aid" for stains. Without a good cleaner at hand, the best thing for blood is rinsing with cold water. Biggest concern should be: How does someone cut themselves while washing a car? Cars aren't supposed to have sharp edges. I use an emery board (nail file) to blunt random sharp edges that are lying in wait for any skin that bumps into them.
@@EXROBOWIDOW Thanks for the reply! Yes, I did get at the blood stain immediately. No trace remains. Thanks for cold water tip. How I cut my arm is a good question. I don't really know. It's just one of those mysteries of life 😃👍
Hello, i have a 2023 subaru outback and am trying to find any info on opening the powered hatch with the key fob button while the car is running. Is this possible? Thanks
Hi Alex, I have a 2020 Ascent. Any way to connect two iPhones to it? I was hoping I could use my phone via Car Play and my wife could connect hers via Bluetooth, unfortunately that isn’t working for me. Thanks!
I have an iPhone when I am talking to someone on CarPlay. I can hear them, but they can’t hear me and I have to get on my phone to put it back on car. I can be talking for awhile before it does this ! It continues to do this often????
I have a '23 Crosstrek Sport so I have to connect via cable. It works well though. I can use some apps via the Bluetooth connection but it's not as good and is sometimes stuttery, if that's a word! LOL
Try: when your phone name is on the screen touch it to open options, you should see an option for “Apple car play” you can switch the “button” to on. I spent 1/2 hour trying to connect to a “greyed out” “Apple car play”app. So frustrating.
@@erinaidukas1306 From what I understand, the some of the new 2024's have Bluetooth carplay. I can play Itunes through Bluetooth but it is smoother and clearer when I plug it in. It can be frustrating. Most times it works immediately. Then one day it will not connect to the phone until I unplug/plug 2 or 3 times! LOL
This is off-topic, but my 2024 impreza sport radio volume will not go above 38, and it's so low. You have to turn it up too 16 before u can begin to hear it! I test drove a Crosstrek, and i couldn't go above 30 it was sooo loud! Please help!!
I have a HUGE problem with carplay in my 2022 outback. Every single time I end a phone call, the car immediately starts playing the radio. WTF? I will be listening to a podcast using carplay, pause the podcast, make a phone call, and when the call ends suddenly the car radio is blasting at high volume. I can't figure out how to stop this from happening. There is no off switch for the radio so there doesn't seem to be any way to tell the car to quit doing this. It's absolutely horrible behavior. The car seems to do the same thing when it's connected through bluetooth as well, which tells me this is a big problem with the outback that it can't remember that no audio source was playing when the call was started so it just picks the first source (radio) and starts playing it when any call is finished. Horrible defect.
I am sad that my solterra dont got wireless android auto in Norway so I have to use a usb, but apple pooplay is wireless. Wierd seeing as it is wireless elsewhere.
Hi Alex my new forester nearing around 3k miles on it .. recently my average mileage meter starting fluctuating crazy dropping down to 24 to 17 and than jumping up back to 23 within a day.. also the average mileage never went up above 24.. is something wrong with mine? Plz lemme know
Thank you I learned a few tricks today Now I have a question about apple car play Do you have any issues of the volume on your automatically turns down and you miss calls I already talked to my cell phone carrier they could find solutions I had iPhone 11 and it started doing that on my 2021 outback I upgraded a few months ago to 14plus and still have the issues Any suggestions 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Alex great video… is there a way to connect an apple watch (series9) to CarPlay. No trouble connecting my Apple phone but no success with the watch. Thkx.
@@Seth-g5i Apple CarPlay/Android auto works on the 2024 Forester Wilderness but with the usb cable only. The 2025 Forester with the larger screen now has the wireless option
Seems that I, and many others (Redit users seem to have the same experience) are experiencing difficulties with CarPlay and intermittent connectivity/availability. Factory reset is inconvenient and not possible while driving. I've tried a variety of cords and all the iPhones in the house and it seems that the common failure is in the Subaru head unit or software. If there is a more permanent solution, I'd love to know what it is. My Subaru retailer seems to think the cable is always bad, but it works fine connecting to the computer.
@@timlucia CarPlay dropping out on both older and newer models seems to be a common issue. Hopefully Subaru will fix with a software update in the future

Subaru more than likely won’t cover this for free unless you’re experiencing issues with it but it’s worth a shot
@@alexpmo Thank you very much for the info.
My iPhone 16 pro max will not connect car play wirelessly to my 22 forester sport. Why? Also, when wired, it keeps switching from all speakers to just the dashboard speakers. Help!
UGH!! I'm going crazy here. I've got a 2023 WRX Premium with a radio that is an exact copy of yours. I can't figure out if it is wireless or not?
has there been any update on carplay mic dropping randomly when using car play from subaru or apple?
Could you do a video about Starlink? Mine is due for renewal, and I wonder if I should. I have a Forester. Thanks.
Have had my Forester for three years and never realize that there is a Subaru voice function. I’ll never use it, but it’s kind of neat to know it’s there.
You should give it a try!
A weird thing with my outback is CarPlay will only connect if I have my phone plugged into the car. The Bluetooth won’t connect without that.
Hello, I have a Subaru Levorg vn5 2020. How to connect CarPlay wirelessly, for some reason I can’t do it. and how to update starlink software via WiFi? is that possible?
Awesome video! Thank You! Definitely informative!!
@Alex Prestigiacomo do you know of any aftermarket lights for the forester cargo area ? ...not ones in the tailgate which wopuld be useless as soon as you step forward but ones on the side where the seat release is ./...Thanks
For some reason my seri is very low when I send a text message
This just started a couple months ago this is on my 2021 forester
Is there a way to up the volume my phone volume is all the way up
How do you get it to do CarPlay via Bluetooth?
Good info, thanks.
Thanks for this video Alex! Are there any Carplay adapters that you would recommend for wireless Carplay on wired Carplay vehicles?
Hello,is it possible to connect iPhone with Outback via bluetooth in 2021 version?
Hi i have a 2019 outback limited and trying to hook up my wireless
Alex, I love your videos! I have a 2024 Outback. CarPlay is connected, but some of my apps aren’t showing up on screen. I’ve gone through the process to add them, but they still aren’t showing up. Anyone have any ideas?
How are you able to use the car play without connecting your phone to the USB port??
Hey Alex, thanks for all the great videos.
I have a 2018 Forester and can find Apple CarPlay on my system.
Can you help me please?
When I go to customize it shows just a few apps and won’t let me add any.
We just bought a 2020 Outback Limited XT and I am unable to receive messages. It literally says messages not available. I can’t figure out why
Complex question: If an Android phone and an iPad are connected in the 2024 Subaru OBW, is there a way to have messages read from both?
Hi Alex great content it’s been super helpful. Do Subarus have the ability to turn on the interior lights without opening the doors or hitting the unlock key fob? Sorry it’s a weird question
Thanks buddy. I’ve inherited my father’s 19 Outback legacy. Great car. Equal to my Mercedes
Does a 2018 Subaru outback support wireless CarPlay? Thanks Al!
Thank you
Why does sometimes, my Apple CarPlay won’t connect? Have a 2023 Forester Wilderness and has to be connected
Hey, I’m having this problem with Apple CarPlay whenever it connects! My audio (whether Apple music, or car radio or incoming calls) will switch from whatever is music - let’s say music - to a radio station!
This is so frustrating that I cannot keep it connected.
Please help 😢
Edit: I’d like to ask that I have deleted and added the phone multiple times to no resolve )
Thanks
Can I do this on my 2022 wilderness ?
Is there a recall on 2021 out back for air bags?
I have a 2018 Outback Limited. Do you have a wireless adapter that you’d recommend for using CarPlay?
Share park location… does not show “parked location “ option on my Apple Maps. What’s up?
I am sad that my solterra dont got wireless android auto in Norway so I have to use a usb, but apple pooplay is wireless. Wierd seeing as it is wireless elsewhere.
Hi Alex my new forester nearing around 3k miles on it .. recently my average mileage meter starting fluctuating crazy dropping down to 24 to 17 and than jumping up back to 23 within a day.. also the average mileage never went up above 24.. is something wrong with mine? Plz lemme know
Thank you
I learned a few tricks today
Now I have a question about apple car play
Do you have any issues of the volume on your automatically turns down and you miss calls
I already talked to my cell phone carrier they could find solutions
I had iPhone 11 and it started doing that on my 2021 outback
I upgraded a few months ago to 14plus and still have the issues
Any suggestions 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Under your car settings you can select sound and adjust phone call volume from there. That should resolve the issue.
Can you send location info to selected contacts when you're on a road trip?
Alex great video… is there a way to connect an apple watch (series9) to CarPlay. No trouble connecting my Apple phone but no success with the watch. Thkx.
No sure but I believe your Apple Watch is synced to your iPhone.
Good stuff thanks
Alex, does this work the same on the latest (2024) Wilderness edition of the Forester? or only on the regular '25 Foresters with the big screen?
2023 Forester Premium, by the way.
@@timlucia CarPlay dropping out on both older and newer models seems to be a common issue. Hopefully Subaru will fix with a software update in the future
it also works when you say hey siri, you don't have to push any buttons
