Finally, someone that knows the easiest way to quarter saw a log. I've watched several videos of people quarter sawing a log and I've only seen one other guy use this technique. Well done!
Agreed! With a manual sawmill it is much harder to do unfortunately. My brother and I have an LT15 that is completely manual and the word work is an understatement! We would love some guidance on how to quarter saw properly if you're willing to give us a look. Thanks for the help in advance.
I love watching quartersawing lumber. I have watched a lot f videos, yours is tge best by far. Direct, precise and right on the mark. 5 stars! Thank you!
Big thanks for taking the time and energy to educate some of us... Seriously, I have made several videos and I greatly appreciate the time and effort you spent to create this quality video that is very helpful... awesome scenery as well.. thanks!
Great job !!! How often do you quarter saw softwood? I’ve considered doing it here and there but the demand for quarter sawn softwood doesn’t seem to be there; at least in my area. Great video!!!
Lotta smoke being blown up yer bum here in these comments.. Here's some more.. Terrific Job! Ya Ol Jar Head. Schoolin the newbies. If ya get to Tennessee ill take ya fishing. 🍺 🥃🔫🐿 1st Cav Vet BTW. Thats Army
Thanks! By the way, I did a stint with 1st CAV at Fort Hood later. And I would love to do some finishing back there. My grandpa lived in New Market for 40 years
Gee, with your Quarter Saw, you lost 70% of your log. Here is a method of quarter sawing that gets most of your log, almost 100%: "Making Expensive Lumber Out Of Free Logs" Good luck !
Not sure why you think I lost 70% of my log (I didn't lose any) but there are more ways to skin a cat and this was about easy quarter sawing ;) It's also the way Wood-Mizer teaches people. However, I am well aware of several ways. Some, that people think are better, are actually more wasteful, some that are actually Rift Sawing are actually better but this one is about ease of doing it, simplicity. Thanks for watching.
@@TheOldJarhead Erik, yes, there are many ways to skin a cat, he-he. Here is an old timer's way to quarter saw a log, much the same way that you do: "How to Quarter Saw Lumber, The Old Way? Or the New Way?" by George Wood of Texas. However, the "old way" gives you more board feet to the log. Cheers 🙏
Thus method produces both full quarter sawn and rift sawn boards ;) But if you mean 3/4" then probably not too many but Ponderosa Pine barely shrinks so what you mill is nearly what you get. For me I use a lot of 1/2" stuff
There's something about those little saw mills and making lumber that is so calming.

What kind of marker do you use to get the lines drawn on the wood to stand out well?
I use lumber crayons. You can get them at hardware stores usually or check the link below in the description for an Amazon link. Thanks for watching!
How much is this machine?
Today? About $40,000
Everything is easy when you have the correct $40,000 piece of machinery!
They say money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a $40,000 piece of machinery that makes everything easier!

Semper Fi Brother!
I need 500,000 of each: cedar, hemlock, alder and aspen.
That's a ton!

You talk a lot for a marine! Just get to the point and get the job done!
Can't help it, I've got stories to tell even as an old marine!
