Thanks for putting this video together. My automatic door locks stopped working and I'm suspecting the BCM. Lucky for me this is an extra vehicle and I think the only thing not working are the door locks. If I do the job, I'll do a video too. Mine is an 02 which has a different BCM from all other years :-(
I apologize if you've already answered this somewhere in the video. But I skipped around. Did you have to reprogram the BCM or was it just plug up and go?
The extra control unit that is flopping around is most likely a remote control aftermarket unit that was installed by the previous owner at home. That's what the electrical tape splicing mess on your wiring harnesses are most likely going to.
So what made you change the BCM. What kind of problems were you have, Lights not work, Alarm going off, Headlights not work, Signals not workin Fuses blowing. Check engine light on. Please explain.
mine randomly won't start, but if i mess with the automatic door locks it sometimes works, when it doesn't i just bypass the starter relay with a wire. the relay is fine though.
Was this your issue? My speedometer goes up to maybe 3mph max no matter what speed you go. Odometer goes up based off of the incorrect speedometer. Replaced speed sensor on rear diff and the wiring harness.
@@alejandroi5788 No mine never moved. I eventually bought a GPS speedo off eBay and installed it. I had replaced the rear diff. sensor, ran new wire to it, replaced the gauge cluster and the sensor on the side of the transmission. Nothing fixed it. Good luck.
Got a question for you on how you got the BCM out of the space that it was in, and how did you get that repaired unit back into that same space, did you have to undo anything specific so that it would fit out, I'm at a loss on how to get this thing out of that space.
Once the 3 screws are removed, the whole unit can be maneuvered enough to disconnect the 3 large wire harness connectors on the back of the fuse block (label these 3 connectors so they go back exactly where they came from), and then remove the 2 smaller wire harness connectors on the side of the fuse block (the side facing the firewall) then the whole unit is almost ready to come out. All the wire harness connectors need to tucked out of the way to provide room for the whole unit to come out, it's a very tight squeeze getting it out and back in again (this is the hardest and most aggravating & time consuming part of the job). The trick is to move it inward (away from the wall that it mounts to) just enough to get enough clearance to slide it on an angle downward and towrad the firewall. Once it's as far toward the firewall as it will go, there's a black plastic box in the way that needs to be moved out of the way. You don't need to remove any wires from that black box, the wires connected to it are long enough so that it can be moved out of the way and set it on the floor board (there are no screws or anything holding it in place). Once that black plastic box is out of the way then there's barely enough room to slide it further toward the firewall and downward. Now you have to grab the bottom right corner and pull it away from the side wall that it was mounted to. This very hard to explain, and may be hard to understand. I'm going to make a brief video in an attempt to show and explain how to pull it out and put it back in, without actually removing it. I'll try to make that video tomorrow and I'll add the link to it in the description above, and in a follow-up reply to you. Hopefully that will help you, and others too. I wanted to include that part in the video above but I would have been in the way of the camera and all that would have shown up would have been my head and hands in the way.
@@HeavyMetalMechanic1 What was the original issue that you had that led to this placement. I have no spark at Cyl #6 New coil pack and plug. Have compression and fuel but no spark. I am wondering if it is the BCM? Thanks for the help!
I have a 2007 liberty alternater went out I replaced it and now the crazy thing will run a brand new battery down in 10 minutes time while running can you give me the number to where you got your BCM
@@OkaySRT8 no I didn’t. I had to fix another problem unrelated to the BCM. I have a autel scanner and it says the BCM is bad. Wasn’t sure if I could just buy and plug n play. Or I had to get one and have it programmed.
Eugene Simmons I hear people say if you go to the junk yard and find a car with the same options as yours it will work. Dealerships told me has to be programmed, small local shops told me it would be fine. Idk today I’m gonna go get one from the Junkyard and see how that goes

Great video. Exactly what was wrong with your Jeep? I've replaced everything to do with my speedometer but the BCM. Still can't get it to work.
