I listen to him, Chris and Sweeney on the snark tank regularly. They’re funny but they also have very one sided takes on politics while also claiming that they’re the “rational” ones. They seem like cool guys and genuine about their beliefs but I think everyone needs to be humbled about their values and perspectives once in a while no matter if you’re moderate or radical. There’s not much to gain from dismissing people who have a different perspective on taxes, free speech, abortion, etc than you do

He was a part of that community with Sargon & Shoeonhead, though unlike SomeBlackGuy, those two are somewhat semi relevant in the UA-cam & Twitter space in different ways. Mundane Matt & Bunty also have dead channels, but they have lolcow status in the community, they're pretty infamous. This guy however, no one talks about him, and looking at the channel today, no one cares about him either.

A long time ago I saw a thumbnail of him with some hot goth girl standing next to him and him holding his chin like he was thinking. After that not one of his videos ever came back onto my feed. I think he just isn't willing to progress his ideology to its logical conclusion because he's afraid the hot goth girl pussy will dry up.

Man oh man. I love Derrick as a person and it pains me to see him go down the rabbit hole of current day politics. Current day politics is super polluted and its hard to differentiate truth from fiction in either direction. He tends to jump so far into the left though that it seems like he discredits EVERYTHING on the right. He has had a lot of takes recently where I'm like "broooo why?!" especially when it comes to something involving Ethan. He justifies every bad decision that Ethan makes with the "it's just a joke" trope-like answer. I know he's friends with Ethan and I think he holds him too high on the pedestal while being afraid to lose that connection with criticism towards Ethan. In today's environment if you want to do political content you have to be in the thick of the weeds, but he has surface level understanding. Look at everyone else in his cohort from the skeptics days that are still successful. Blaire white mixed her content up, CRG has mixed it up, etc. I think he could be successful again, but he either has to dig down into his politics or just pump the fucking brakes and focus more on apolitical content.

@Chimpin Out Because youtube has been entirely corporatized and mainstreamed like TV, which was inevitable, with any new outlet discovered is a ripe opportunity to make some money for dying greedy people on the tippy top, and that money needs to be made a certain way.
The problem is most people rely too heavily on youtube for their entire livelihood, so it becomes something completely disingenuous that changes depending on when it needs to, which is fine, because people need to live. But, then yeah, you're seeing characters, not real people with their genuine feelings, because that'll kill your career real quick.

It's a combination of things, you hit most of them. I think SBG is cool and I'd love to hang out with him sometime but yeah his videos got really long winded and less fun, he often is late to talk about topics compared to other creators, and I think as he pursues his other hobbies more he's paid less attention to politics so his commentary became less informed over time.

I think they realized that the vast majority of everyones subscribers were completely inactive and havent watched one of their videos for years. I've been watching SBG ever since his hayday, and it sucks to see that his channel is now on the UA-cam death bed. He has the potential to be a titan on this platform but he would rather throw it all away so he can continue to make medicore commentary videos with his enlarged ego at the helm of it all.
I remember this guy from back in the day. He had zero charisma. His audience was created by Sargon, Bearing, Chris Raygun, Andy Warski (back in the OG days with Chris Warski), and the other skeptic clones all recommending him. He was the token black guy of the skeptics and he took full advantage of the role. Those channels were all tired copies of one another all repeated the same talking points over and over again. It was inevitable that it'd fall eventually. I don't know if they were all grifters, some were for sure, but SBG always just seemed more of a bandwagon hopper than straight up grifter.

The "grifting" term is my favorite current day projection. People like SBG never seem to grasp the likeliness of UA-cam becoming a career you can retire from at 65 is infinitesimally small. SBG's time was the Trump election era, as people started getting tired of Trump and UA-cam started banning "anti-sjw" and "sceptic" channels the chance of him remaining successful dwindled but he never had the forethought to realize it was time to quit and join the offline world.

Markiplier and pewdiepie are amazing, mark is blazing a trail for creators to subvert Hollywood completely and be able to make shows and movies without them. He also sticks up for the little guy when UA-cam is being hypocritical or censoring. And pewdiepie is just funny, who blazed a trail, stayed humble, stayed funny, and is about free speech and philosophy.

I have to agree on most of your points about SBG being delusional, coping, and narcissistic but any time you touched on a political topic you were so wrong I felt like I was having a brain aneurysm. I watch the snark tank podcast because it's mostly just dumb rambling about cultural things and scenarios so I only know that SBG has said he never liked or wanted to do political videos but music. I agree that his channel is failing because of the reasons you stated but most of them aren't some major personality flaw but SBG genuinely focusing on improving his music and not on essentially a rant video. SBG does seem to have an inflated ego because he's blaming every other thing on his failing main channel but I agree with SBG that most successful online personality are big because of luck, best example is that xqc guy.

SBG has no charisma. Hes nice but he is unbearably boring. Sweeny was funny as a bit of a background character, but after hearing him on that snark tank podcast it is suprising how one note he is. Out of them chris is the only one who still has a chance to "make it", but i think hes in that older phase of life when all the ambition seems to just seep out of people if they dont fight against it tooth and nail. I watched SBG for a while but just sort of fizzled out around the mid or late 2010s. He didn't do anything particularly wrong to me at the time, I just think his presentation was too safe and boring. But I followed him longer than I did ShoeonHead. Lots of people simping for her in the comments and I liked her for a while too, but the Armored Skeptic humiliation play was cringe and she wasn't productive enough. Think her upload rate was even worse than Chris Ray Gun.
