Another great song on album 3, which hit number 1 on the charts. Page dedicated this song to the woman, also a musician, who was his his girlfriend at the time he wrote the lyrics. During concerts, Plant would sometimes introduce it by saying: "This song is for our families and friends and people we've been close to. It's a song of love at its most innocent stages." Page played both a six-string and a twelve-string acoustic guitar, as well as a pedal steel guitar, another instrument he learned for the first time to record tracks for album 2. Jones again played the mandolin and Plant did all the singing, including the harmony vocal line. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the guys were very creative and musically gifted. They took a bit of heat from some people over this album because it was such a departure from albums 1 and 2 but I love it. And, as Olivia said, "You can clearly tell it's just a love for music." :) Silas, I found this quote by John Paul Jones a while back that I think gives us some insight as to why LZ was so diverse and versatile. "I've always maintained that Zeppelin was the spaces between us. Bonzo [Bonham] was into soul music and Motown ballads, I was into jazz and classical music, Jimmy was into rockabilly, blues and folk, and Robert was into blues and Elvis Presley. None of us the same record collection. Nobody on the outside of the band could understand this." Edit: Corrected poorly worded sentence that stated this song went to number 1. It was the album, not the song, that hit number 1.
This song was written and played live by the yardbirds long before Zeppelin. Jimmy put it on led zep III embellishing it a little bit. Roberts vocals were clearly better than when keith relfs sang it.
In the early sixties Jimmy Page was a session guitarist in London. He quickly became the most sought after guitarist in England for sessions. Some bands wouldn’t book the studio for recording until the likes of Jimmy Page were available - he was still a teenager!!
Man! when you got a girl who gets chills listening to Led Zeppelin, she's a keeper! Having a sweet girl to listen to Zeppelin with is just brilliant. And if you two pray together also, then it's just glorious!🙏🕊💖
Oh boy are you both going to like the live stuff. Its the difference between drinking out of a plastic bottle and drinking out of a fresh mountain spring. May I reccomend Dazed and Confused live at Madison Square Garden in 1973. My favourite piece of music.
Am so envious of you two... To be discovering L.Z. listening to such amazing music for the first time.. And Dam guys..you got so much ahead of you. Enjoy..as I will watching your reactions.. ! Loving this..
Welcome to the days of my youth. I was 13 when I bought this album back in 1970 and I can share the feelings, the thrills the excitement and surprises of hearing LZIII
Back in the day, this wistful song put a hook in every Zeppelin fan, where it remains a favorite for those who know their catalog. The pedal steel guitar on the back end was a brilliant touch. Loved your reactions and the channel. Btw, the deep end of the Zeppelin pool, is a great place to be. Regards
I saw Page and Plant live in Chicago in the late 90s. They're the lead singer and guitar player from Led Zeppelin. It was a surreal experience. People were weeping in the audience.
I know you are going in order, which is the way to go. But a couple live versions of one's you already did that I think you would both love are since I've been loving you,and dazed and confused live, both from the song remains the same concert madison square garden 1973. Actually the song remains the same/the rain song also. A really special concert where the concert footage of their movie was filmed. Since I've been loving you is just killer, dazed and confused is a 29 minute guitar clinic, and the faster paced song remains the same transitioning into the beautiful rain song.
'Tangerine' was the song playing in the movie "Almost Famous" as it went to the credits at the end of the movie. Might I say, an 'Almost Perfect' way to end a charming movie.
This song is about those halcyon days of our younger years. I can remember listening to this with my then girlfriend outside in a park by a beautiful river near where we lived.....the sun was shining, her hair and eyes were so bright....I'll never forget that moment.
Yes, when lec Zeppelin was started the members were 19 to 21. They wrote most of their songs. Unbelievable to think the quality back then late 60s and all 70s were, I know i lived it. Amazing never to be again. And it wasn't all rock. I stillnlisten 90% to that era to this day. I'm in my mid 60s now. Led Zeppelin was my favorite. CCR and Moody Blues, Traffic. Grand Funk Railroad.. You should listen to them. Now that was music
Robert had a HUGE vocal range as well as being great at both gentle almost whispering vocals and also he can smash your face in t With the power too! Incredible band. Every member was top 2 or 3 ever!!!
This song was based on the Yardbirds song: "Knowing That I'm Losing You," which Jimmy claims to have written when he was in the Yardbirds: ua-cam.com/video/R4p7q_2gwj0/v-deo.html
You need the original vinyl version to get the full effect. Playing with the spinning wheel in the cover while you watch the green, white and red 'Atlantic' label revolve on the turntable.
Keep 'em coming, you guys are so natural and cute together. It's just crazy that this music is getting so much attention from a new generation. Just hope it inspires some young bands to take it and run with it. Keep hoping to hear some new bands that might have careers that could last as long as those from this era, but still waiting. These 60's /70's performers can still deliver live, but what happens when they've all gone to that great gig in the sky?
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin started listening to them in 1967 I was 10 I love love love love love Led Zeppelin listen to The Lemon Song The Lemon Song you'll get a kick out of that one
Such a beautiful song. It's so awesome to see you guys checking this out. I was slightly younger than you I think, I'm not sure of your exact age, but I would say in junior high school when I feel hard for Led zepp. I'm about all of their albums up to that point and then bought the next three before Bonzo died as I went through high school and into college age. But I had forgotten there are so many gems on this album.
I love this song...the perfect length, it leaves you wanting more...i've been bingeing your reactions and i can see that at this point Silas is well and truly hooked...i was exactly the same except the first album i ever heard was Zeppelin 4.
That’s what always happens. Tangerine makes you smile, makes you close your eyres. sway a little, and then when the “and I do….” the guitar kicks in - your jaw drops and to hear it again you click back a few seconds with your mouse/rewind/pick up the needle and move it back on the record a bit. That’s what you’re suppose to do. 👍🏼
It seems so crazy when I have people reacting to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. You know all the bands because even when I was younger sometime ago they had been around a while and they were still touring and I can remember seeing Pink Floyd twice and seeing plant isnd Plant. The reason why I was only page and plant is because not everybody was alive by the time I got to that concert but boy I’ll tell you what plant could still wear those leather pants and look fabulous night but I can pull that off, but this is timeless music and I know you will thank tangerine is jazz bangin
Silas reminds me of myself when I discovered Zepp when they started, everyone said my face played the music! Here in the UK they were literally rock gods, their creativity, sophistication, playing talent, Roberts vocal talent and diversity of styles was intoxitating, still is! It will be interesting to see you guys react to maybe Black Sabbath, Genesis, Pink Floyd, etc. So glad you are exploring proper, quality music, it will be with you for a lifetime.
Jimmy Page is usually ranked in the top two greatest guitarist ever and they are so diversed from blues to heavy rock to folk, to middle eastern songs and they even played funk influenced songs and other styles as well....the GOATs
This song is sweet and innocent. As J Mar said, Jimmy wrote it about former girlfriend, American singer/songwriter Jackie De Shannon (he said she had "tangerine eyes" - I have no clue what that means but...ok then lol). They met when he was still a session musician and he played on some of her music. She would bring him to the States and show him around the various industry people and music scenes here at the time. It was partially through her introductions that he would remember Atlantic records when it came time to look for a label. Also, as Kim Mueller mentioned, a version was originally played when Jimmy was in The Yardbirds before Zep. It had different lyrics and was called Knowing That I'm Losing You. Robert's voice was double tracked to do the harmony, however, when Zep played it live, Jimmy would harmonize with him. Jimmy rarely sang, but, if you ever want to hear him sing, he has 1 single he recorded when he was a 21-year-old session player called She Just Satisfies. He wrote, produced it, and played all the instruments except drums. It also has the aforementioned Jackie De Shannon on it. ua-cam.com/video/0Qhd4l9u0Gc/v-deo.html
One of my favorite off tracks for them. Random story but I randomly won tickets to blue oyster cult by naming this song on one beat on a Philly radio station in the 80s. WMMR anyone. Enjoying your journey. It only gets better. The next three albums may be their best three. Although they are just all so good
Please, show her some of the great songs you covered so far! "Good Times Bad Times", ... show her everything. LOL I thought about mentioning more songs, but "f...." it. They are all great!
Silas, you and Olivia should watch the movie Almost Famous….about the rock scene in the early 70’s. The story is great snd the soundtrack is amazing with several Zeppelin songs…this being one. Tangerine is probably in my 10 LEAST favorite Zep songs….but I still enjoy hearing it from time to time. It’s such a vibe of that time
I was going to suggest the same thing. It's the only movie that REALLY creates the whole 70's rock world as it was. It's like watching a movie of our lives. So glad we lived it in real time. 👍
I think the hook has been set for your Girlfriend...lol. So glad you got her to react with you and share in the awesomeness of LZ. She's gonna love the ride down the rabbit hole as there are no bad LZ songs.
Hey guys, Ned from Spain here. Janet and I love your reactions and of course Led Zeppelin. I love Led Zeppelin ❤, and I like watching your reactions, next you should do Pink Floyd Pulse concert, Comfortably Numb, there is a guitar solo that some say best ever, I'm not taking anything away from Zeppelin
The faster parts of this song are a bit slow for me. But, I really liked the very slow parts that almost isolated plant. Nice hearing his voice in a more mellow state. Thanks! 💥
You two are good together. You should make it a regular thing as much as possible. It's good hearing two views. And maybe rename the channel with both names or make up a new name. A lot of the top reaction channels have two people. One channel had a couple thousand subs and after he added his wife it took off and now they have almost 300,000.
Listen to "Gallows Pole" off this same album. Then go back and listen to Leadbelly, singing it in the '30s. Here is where rock music came from. Then listen to Leadbelly doing "Where did You Sleep Last Night" and then Kurt Cobain, from Nirvana doing a cover. I dare you.

Good info!!! But a correction: The only Single from LZ III was "Immigrant Song"
What went to #1 on the Charts was the entire Album
@@fewwiggle You're right! I'll correct that. Thanks!
This song was written and played live by the yardbirds long before Zeppelin. Jimmy put it on led zep III embellishing it a little bit. Roberts vocals were clearly better than when keith relfs sang it.
Jackie DeShannon... isn't that Jimmy on backing vocal?
@@bishlap Yes, it is. He sang backup during several songs, this being one of them.
Listened to that the week it came out in 1970 and absolutely still my favorite music and always will be!! ☮️❤️
They will be your favorite band soon.
Timeless, non caregorizable.
The live will cement the Jimmy #1
I love your reactions. It means us older people aren’t crazy lol. Yes Zeppelin is an awesome experience!
500th thumbs up and 100th comment. 😄 Excellent reaction!
The way Alivia reacted to the start of Jimmy’s guitar solo was amazing! Reminded me of the first time I heard it. 👍🏻
In the early sixties Jimmy Page was a session guitarist in London. He quickly became the most sought after guitarist in England for sessions. Some bands wouldn’t book the studio for recording until the likes of Jimmy Page were available - he was still a teenager!!
The exact same story for John Paul Jones.
The changing of dynamics and tone in their songs is amazing. Page called it "Light and Shade". They are the GOAT'S
Light and shade, great analogy.
This song feels a lot like foundation for "Stairway To Heaven".
best cut on album
I love wwatching young folks listen to amazing old rock music. It is timeless and people of all ages with a good ear know that.
Enjoy your Zep journey as I did back then at your age. Once listened, their music will be with you forever
This is the closing song that plays out for the movie Almost Famous. It’s a must see for music lovers.
What beauty they produced and in great quantity. The best.

For Your Very First Live Performance,, IT MUST BE Led Zeppelin "Since I've Been Loving You" (Live At Madison Square Garden) TRUST ME!!
Been listening to this for 45 years, so glad you guys get it. Keep up the good work.
Great reaction, just like mine, when I first heard it! (back in the stone age!)
This song begins like a simple dessert. Basic, beautiful, harmonic like a peach tart. Then the drum and bass come in. Love it.

He also understood the "vibe" that older US regional folk, country and Black blues records had rather than just copying the structure. Keep up the good work guys
The guy here is in love with Led
Jimmy Page loved a lot of the American Country & Western guitarists of the time, and you can hear that influence in numerous Zep songs.
The Rain Song Live at MSG is a must if you like the soft side of them
I saw Led Zeppelin in Oklahoma City 1977
this song means so much
SILAS, if you want a perfect example of why Jimmy Page is considered one of the greatest guitarists ever, watch the video “Led Zeppelin Trampled Under Foot live 1975”. This song is so intense you’ll need a nap after watching it.
Hi Teens
It is real pleasure to see your reaction for that music.
I was lucky to grow up on late sixties and early seventies.
This music is "my music" if you know what I mean.
In that time there were many fantastic bands.
Please check Jethro Tull, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Gentle Giant, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis with Peter Gabriel.
I would like to recommend you song "From The Beginning" from album "Trilogy" by Emerson Lake and Palmer.

In retrospect that Pedal Steel guitar (Fender 1000) practically makes the chorus...
Hopefully you'd do every track with your Mrs. She has a great ear for the music and zep has ALOT of subtlety behind the crushing power
