Originally titled "The Boy Next Door", this song was based on the sociological/ecological thoughts of the day. Statements like "you're gonna let your hair hang down" - Zep, and any guy with long hair, were often ridiculed, spat on, etc. "You're in the darker side of town" - as you can tell, Zep were big Blues music fans (especially Robert) so they'd want to go to Blues bars/clubs, which were usually in African American neighborhoods. Robert tells a story of being in a US city somewhere and asking to go to one and being told no because it was in a "bad" neighborhood. There is also a commentary on pollution with "fish that lay in dirty water, dying" and the indifference often shown because "all that lives is born to die" so people do nothing, instead just "turn your head and cry". He asks "why don't your eyes see me" and notes that "all your ears have turned away". He says at first "that's the way it oughta be/oughta stay" but asks near the end to "look, and look again at what you see, is that the way it ought to stay?" When played in concert, Robert would often sing at the end "It ain't right, it ain't right". This is a change in lyrical subject matter for Zep, however the musicality is spot on, very light and delicate. The next song is Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. The first part is misspelled, it should be spelled "Bron-Yr-Aur" and pronounced like "bron-er-ire". It is the name of the Welsh cottage Robert and Jimmy went to and ended up writing a good portion of this album. The name itself means "golden breast/golden hill/golden valley.
Another of my LZ favorites and really fun to play on guitar. Page really shines on acoustic if you ask me. I've got to practice this song again, it's so much fun to play.
This live in 1975 is fantastic!! They did this along with Bron Y Aur Stomp...magnificent...and Going To California!! The 3 acoustic set is absolutely a MUST SEE! Gotta love the various guitars here and JPJ in the mandolin!
Superb composition, especially Page's pedal steel work to back the acoustic work (or the other way around?) Once again Jimmy proves that writing counts. A lot of people who are critical of his technical abilities ought to study this composition. True art cannot be substituted by technical ability.
Watch this live from Earls Court 1975...Robert Plant is a vocal master!! 🎶 To see them just sitting in chairs at the edge of the stage so relaxed is something to see!!🎶 There will never be another Zeppelin!!🎶🎶
For this song, Page played a twelve-string acoustic guitar, a pedal steel guitar (which caught your attention) and a dulcimer (also a stringed instrument often played in folk music), while Jones played the mandolin. I really like this song. It's lovely and the lyrics are very meaningful. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Silas, and thanks for another great reaction. :) Edit: Page also played bass, which he rarely did, toward the end of the song because he was still working in the studio and wanted to add it in but Jones had already gone home.
Like I said, I like "III" the best out of Led Zepp's catalogue, because it's the most versatile. Also the best produced without sanding away the harder edges. I got this album in 1973 for my twelfth birthday. I had to rely on birthdays and christmas to aquire albums, since, at age twelve, I didn't have my own money to buy what I liked and as such I got albums one or two years after their release. You're a good kid. And I say 'kid' not because you're a child, but because that's what people my age call folk your age. I envy you, cuz you get to discover for the first time what I discovered for the first time almost fifty years ago. Go for it 'kid'. You have such a wondeful road ahead of you. Warm greetings from Belgium.
I love Led Zeppelin, I think their 1st album in 69 was the greatest ever made, I was 17 at the time. Please do Comfortably Numb Pink Floyd Pulse concert, David Gilmores Guitar solo is considered one of the best ever ❤ watch it with your girlfriend, it's beautiful visually stunning 😍
Hey Silas, this just shows why they are the greatest, they could have done more of the same as 1 &2 but did the opposite that was expected. WE all want to see your girlfriend react to the list of classic songs that you are gonna do. I think it will be awesome to see her reactions. Make sure you do it.
I have all these on record, on cd… individually and in box sets.. and yet, I’m enjoying going through these in chronological order on this channel. One of the mistakes most reactors make is listening and commenting on songs without understanding the context of the times and the evolution of the artists… and the music business in general, the technological advances made. When you consider that the first Beatles album was done in one day and not in stereo.. Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was recorded in state of the art 4 track stereo.. only 4 tracks.. what are they up to now? 32? 64? It all contributed to the sound

Love your insight Henrietta, thank you once again
Agreed. Also she would like Thank You from the GOATS!! Both songs are epic. Rock on brother!!¡
Bron yr Aur- about an hour's drive from where I am sitting, and about 20 miles as the [welsh] crow flies. Wales is a small country.
@@tvo2563 I would so dearly love to visit!
This and The Rain Song are my two favorites of their “more gentle” songs in their catalogue.
Another of my LZ favorites and really fun to play on guitar. Page really shines on acoustic if you ask me. I've got to practice this song again, it's so much fun to play.
This song is what I would call a great deep track of Zepplin.
Something lovely and soothing about a gently strumming guitar! What’s not to like! 💥
Led Zep all the way.
_Every_ Zeppelin song is a classic. 😄

One of their VERY best, no one but you has ever reviewed it. Thank you!
I'm 68 and I dig your show! I saw Led Zeppelin in Oklahoma City 1977
When you get to the Houses Of The Holy album you must do The Song Remains The Same/The Rain Song live 1973 at MSG!! They were unbelievable!
Their perfomance on HTWWW is so good.
One of my favorite led songs.
Old recording I have, RP says, " ok, we're all going to trip now"

Page and Jones could play ANY stringed instrument!! And Jones also played keys!!
Appreciate the background/history! 😃
@@mattbailey9396 Thanks! I'm no expert but happy to share what I do know. :)
@@jmar7631 Well….to a casual fan like me, it’s nice that you post meatier historical info! 👌

III is my favorite too.
Very dreamy type of song. Good react
I hadn’t heard this song in many years. Peaceful. A little more political in nature. Overall, I like this song. Easy on the ears.😊
We called them Led Zep for short. Great reaction. :)
Hi Silas! Very personal lyrics from Percy. One time a woman slapped him in the face because of his long hair.Keep going kid!
Open G tuning on that twelve string . Beautiful song .
I played this song at my wedding 😉
Love this one!

I've always preferred the softer side of Zep. This song really is amazing and the tones they get are wonderful.

The lyrics and Robert's voice backed by Jimmy's guitar are awesome. But listen to Plant's voice!
You should play this one for the missus...love it...you need to have her for The Rain Song on album 5
Zepplin.
Jimmy is playing a pedal streel,.....
Olivia will love Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
The nick name most people use for Led Zeppelin is Zep.
This was always a favorite. Not a great song in any way, but I love the vibe of it.
My Favorite song of theirs that ISN'T on the 1st album .
A good'n.
Why haven't you done " Stairway to Heaven " 🎸🎤🎶
I bet your GF would like this song.
