Nothing quite captures the dispare of how I relapse into depression like this song. Specifically the moment where she walks into the camera. The song starts so lighthearted and bubbly and exasperated and bored. And then as it goes on you see her grasp at anything and the carpet keeps getting ripped out from under her and the cuts become disorienting and the the tune stays lighthearted but you see the desperation in her eyes “is this all there is is this all there is”
When I wanted to kill myself, years ago, I would stay up until 5 am just weeping. I was rattled with emotion and pain and suffering. I never had a break. It too years of therapy and growth but I have been release from my depression. Occasionally, though, I get bored. And I feel myself fall into that pit again and the whole way down I’m scrambling and tearing my hands trying to grab at the walls and I then I get to the pit and it’s empty. Instead of finding the gut-wrenching, biting hatred I felt in my teenage years, I find nothing. It’s like I’m trapped and alone in the same place, but with none of the bite- none of the threats from when I was actually depressed. Instead of immense pain, I feel immense nothing and I think “is this all there is is this all there is”
pretty much where I’m at right now. None of the bite. Like my depression’s been declawed. Hope you have a safe descent next time you’re down at the bottom of that pit

Scary how accurate that capture my feelings at times in my regard what I do is zone out and not think so essential slip dipper into the pit with eyes closed or super focus on one given subject aka dig my foot into a part of the wall making my own footing though foot will come loose and your eyes will open back ya go at times so I wsay find the tools to dig deeper into the side of the whole make that cave so you know you leap in whole and fall se bt you g the tools a person, a hobby, work, heck whatever that lets ya dig a hole back into the wall if the pit like hole that is despair depression

Tessa and her songs vibes with me so much. The song is indeed dark. It's like she is suffering from major depressive disorder where she has insomnia throughout the night , she keeps thinking and blaming herself for what she speaks and what she does. She wants to be the best version of herself but she can't seem to do it.
She tries to be happy making her schedule tight so as to keep her mind off things she shouldn't be thinking. But as seasons pass by, she gets bored of boxing herself in, being locked up inside her own mind. She feels she has to end her life (hence ending what she started). She wants love and respect from the people she deems her loved ones but they fail to reciprocate to her, hence she feels lonely. She is hurt but she keeps it to herself. She's bored of the whole cycle of waking up and doing what should be done but not really feeling anything about it. She wants to break the cycle but it's hard. She is in a trap. Her rhetorical question " Is this all there is? " is showing a nihilistic view of her thinking. She feels there is nothing in this world than feeling hurt,mistreated and feeling shitty about herself.
She becomes a prisoner of her own mind
I love songs/music videos like this. Speaks deeply to the bullshit im going through, but is still art that has care and meaning behind it. Small stuff like how the pictures change. Reminds me ive been self isolating well before quarantine. I hope I can make something thats this meaningful someday

I relate to this far more then i should. I love how the video shows her outfits changing as she does stuff and that hit different in quarantine because all the days are going by so fast and it doesn't seem real. And the way the computer says rebooting day like it's the same day over and over again and i really felt that. I wake up every day , get dressed, do my makeup, do my chores and then watch tv for the rest of the day. I love this song so much and thank you so much, Tessa, for writing a song i can really relate to. Yeah that's it, sorry for such a long comment, have a good day!!

I just want to say I've never related to a song as much as to this one. I was there when it premiered and I find it hard to describe but it so accurately depicts how I feel a lot of times, mostly when depressive state strikes.
i love how in her tiny room she's surrounded by pictures of herself - not just the three big pictures over the bed, but also the bad ideas ones sticked on the side wall. she doesn't have friends, she doesn't have a family, only her own company and that's what drives her crazy in the end

This song is so real, if it didn't have such a triumphant and up-beat music I wouldn't be able to finish it without crying.
It seems like the computer is something that keeps her entertained throughout the day but for some reason, it doesn't work at night. That's when all her thoughts consume her (the hands). The glasses filled with water only appear at night so that might represent use of alcohol to keep the thoughts at bay at night
There is that scene where the computer looks like make up but in the mirror it looks like a smiley face. You could be onto something :)

This video hits different when you're struggling with work. I used to brush over this as a relateable anthem (not to downlplay it, it's just easy to market it like that), which I'd rather avoid as it coincides with something I reoccuringly go through due to my anxiety, but atm I'm getting depressed from the little work I produce. "excited with my words, but I'm nervous and I'm '*bored* " I'd feel good if only I could finish what I start" It probably comes from a different place, but when I listen to this with this sort of subject in mind, feeling "bored" becomes disassociation x saturated routines and online habits x avoidance x procrastination. I try not to think about it though.

During the loading sequence, the text flashes "shadow self", "addiction" and "loneliness". The code at the end, just before the credits has a part that says: "self.chunks.callback self.searchlight**friends self.identity/lock". I feel like the searching for friends code is linked to loneliness, while the lock on self identity links to shadow self. Addiction is seen throughout the video, in the numerous glasses of water scattered around (a drinking addiction) and a dependence on technology for entertainment and connection.
