  • In this video I’m sawing up two cedar logs on my Norwood hd36 with full speed and all the sound. Watch the process of how I mill logs. I like to saw with the small end of the log towards the start end of the mill. That way if there is any taper in the log I can use my roller-toe-boards to level the log with its center to get straighter, higher quality lumber, and get the most out of the log. I also sometimes will slab opposite sides of the log to make it easier to square for the third slab cut. Then if there are and Boards to edge or (flitches) I edge those down before finishing the cant, that way I have a nice solid back to clamp boards against. Then I also like to use a board to clamp my flitches when I can to give them a secure clamp all the way along.

Clamping your flitches is a good way to saw as it makes the flitches more secure when you are sawing. The cherry boards look like they are almost knot free so have a higher value. Keep up the good work and blessings to you.

I have one and I don't like how when you crank up you have to go past measurement then let down to desired measurement. If I don't do that, the blade ( sawhead ) is not true to the bunks side to side. I think I see you doing that when adjusting for cuts. When I first set it up I had a hell of a time adjusting the eyebolts to get the sawhead right with the bunks.

I have to do the same thing. Only opposite,
When I’m going down it seems to run off level with the bunks, so I go below my desired measurement, and then crack it up to where the cut needs to be to bring it back to level.

Great Sawyer, and beautiful shed just don’t understand why you brought the Mobile pack with your Norwood

I wanted to be able to use it on-site
Which I did a good number of times over the years. And I’m glad I did.
      Worked great for me!

I'm new to sawmilling. Just got my HD36 set up recently. I was told by an older sawyer that you shouldn't breathe saw dust, especially cedar. Have you heard this? Just concerned for our long term health.

      Hi there,
I’ve heard that red cedar is toxic,
But I don’t know about white cedar or regular saw dust.
Most of the time sawing with a band saw the dust is not very fine. So you won’t be breathing a lot of it,
But if you are concerned about it. You could wear a dust mask.
And also do some research on the subject. I’m sure there is some information on the internet about it.
I guess I should look into it myself.

How do you like your mill so far?

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  Рік тому

So far I like it ok, but I do have a few gripes with it.
If I buy another one it will probably be
Timber King or Cook’s Saw Manufacturing

In my opinion Norwood is a decent mill for a weekender or hobbyist, but not so much for a serious sawyer, or sawmill business.
I would highly recommend have Norwood assemble your mill if you buy one.

I take delivery of my HD36V2 this week and am building the shed now. I’d love to have Norwood assemble the saw for me: I live in Hawaii so I figure I’ll give the guys a room they build the saw 😂

Love my Norwood but the company has gone to shit. Don't try to get parts for the older mills half the time no one will answer the phone up there

      That’s not ideal!
I ordered some parts last fall, and didn’t have a problem, other than waiting.
But I ordered online vs calling.
And I have my mill registered on the website too.
