    Also look at blade lube system they carry it’s great as well, it uses felt pad to wipe lube on blade and uses a fraction of the fluid

    The new blade guides should improve your cutting efficiency and give you better boards. Could you install a bracket on the front shaft of the guide to attach your lube line to keep the blade cool?

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  Рік тому

      Yes I am impressed so far with how much better it cuts.
      And I have rigged something up temporarily now for the blade lube.

    You would think there would be 1 roller that has a device on it to attach the tube. I'm not understanding that, lube is very important. I'm gonna look them up on the site and see if there are 2 different rollers...if not I'd say their engineers screwed that up too. I have the same problem with the last cut. I'll wait and see how you make out with these before I bite the bullet. I've been busy harvesting my logs...won't be long before I'm full time sawing, quite a few orders coming in for spring. Cheers!

      Exactly!
      I’ll probably do an update on it shortly. So far I think I have most of it figured out. And I’m impressed with how much better it cuts. The only time I’m seeing a lot of varying in cuts is when there is frozen wood or the blade is getting dull.
      Sounds good 👍🏼

      @@Plankmills Late to party. Did Norwood have a solution for the tube. You would think it would be built in like the ceramic guides. You shouldn’t have to McGiver anything on such an expensive piece of machinery. I have a 4 year old HD36. I bought it new. It barely has 6 hours of cutting time on it. Life got busy but I now am just getting back to milling some lumber. I feel like a kid on Xmas morning.

      I believe they have something for it now. With their newer versions but I’m not sure.

    There’s a reason all of the big sawmill manufacturers use rollers.

    just got my roller replacement kit in. Tired of how finicky the ceramic guides have been. As you mentioned i have the same problem with the retractable arm being sloped. Going to try and fix that when i get the rollers set up how i want them. this video gave me some insight so I appreciate it!

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  Рік тому +1

      Awesome! Your welcome. And I hope it goes as well as my experience has been. I put some shims underneath the retractable guide arm to give the blade some pressure downward there. Because it basically didn’t have any to begin with. But now I can’t move it back and forth unless I force it. So I need to come up with a better shim that doesn’t cause it to bind. It’s not a good setup for being adjustable and have pressure on the blade at all. For the ceramics it was ok but not the rollers.

    How’s the guides holding up, FYI when you need another set Cooks mills has guides with dirk fittings for grease. Thx for the video

      @Plankmills Wondering how your rollers worked. After reading some of the comments sounds like they worked ok, seen you sold your mill so...guessing they must not have worked as well as you had hoped? I got the order list for the roller kit but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Also sounds like they might be coming out with a new blade guide system. Might wait for that before changing to rollers.

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  7 місяців тому +1

      @@solopilot02 yes! I really liked them better than the ceramics. I think they produced a better more consistent cut quality. Less waves.
      That might be a good option.
      Some people recommended the Cook’s saw manufacturing roller guides. They can be adjusted in every direction.
      And to me that would be an amazing feature! Also a better lube system. Would be nice.
      The only complaint I have is that there was no attachment for the lube system on the new roller guide. If you watched my videos on the roller guides I think I showed that it didn’t have a spot for the that. But I make-shift made something work.

    What blade do you use to saw hardwood slabs?

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  Рік тому +1

      I use Cook’s saw manufacturing blades. 7/8” tooth spacing 8 degree and 10 degree blades.

      @@Plankmills Ok. I watch Cripple Creek Sawmilling and I think they said they use 4 degree for hardwoods. I currently use 10's for all my softwoods. Norwood charges a lot for shipping!

    That's going to be my next upgrade. Someone told me to just throw away the ceramics, I should have listened.
    Also, have you noticed that your guide arm is not level when you extend it?

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  Рік тому +2

      I recommend that!
      In my short experience so far it has been worth it.
      The only problems I’ve had is that it wasn’t level side to side, so I shimmed the adjustable guide side where it’s mounted to the frame, but not I can’t adjust it! Lol. But it seems to do quite well even without it being as close to the wood as possible.
      The other thing is that sawdust seems to build up more on the blade and the band wheels but if I run a lot of fluid on it it cleans up good. But I also then have to periodically clean the band wheels.
      Hope this helps

      @@Plankmills I just called Norwood and they mentioned you have to shim the rollers and get your own washers. Also I talked with a friend and he mentioned shimming the retractable blade guide arm so it's level.

      @Plankmills  Рік тому +1

      Ok,
      Just to clarify, I did not have to get my own washers. Everything I needed was included.
      And also I wouldn’t have had to shim the adjustable guide arm. Because as Dave Boyt mentioned you can just adjust the cables the level the blade side to side with the crossbunks so I did that.

    How do you like them?

    • @Plankmills
      @Plankmills  9 місяців тому

      I think they do much better than the ceramic guides did, and they seem to cut much more consistent lumber.
      One guy told me he got a set of adjustable ones from Cook’s Saw manufacturing and welded them onto his mill. I would prefer that because the Norwood ones are not adjustable. At least for the hd36
      Now I think the new ones for the HD 38 are adjustable but I don’t know if they would fit an HD36
      I just emailed Norwood to I guide about changing the blade guides to rollers, and they responded with a quote for the parts and then all I had to do was order it.
