One day I heard a beautiful song with so many changes and tracked it down. I was in the house and found a little Carolina wren sitting on a table I had by my bedroom window, which was open. It stopped for a few seconds when it saw me looking and then continued singing. I lay on the bed and listened to his amazing song for a long time and then his mate actually came up to him and they flew off. We were over the road truckers at the time. They lived in our carport for several years until we came home and I found part of his body. He had given his life to defend a fallen young. I cried.
Just yesterday, we had five chicks leave the nest that the parents set up in our messy shed. The parents were helping the chicks get to some nearby trees. It was so cool to watch and listen to their different calls! One chick wasn't quite ready to fly and had trouble getting out before dark so I put the nest in a box and put the bird in the nest (using gloves) and it slept safely over night. In the morning, as soon as I went outside, the parents were on my porch ready to help their chick. They got it to follow them on the ground and they would find bugs and feed it. Eventually, the rest of the chicks came over and the whole family of wrens went along hunting for food. The little chick was already getting stronger and getting close to flying. Success!
I have fallen in love with a Wren, which has been named Wrenfro, that comes to our glass door and "crickets" at us for peanuts... after he gets it, he gives a chatter on the way out, which I interpret as a "Thank you"... he has brought his family recently too!
The most entertaining thing about a Carolina Wren is their affinity for alternative nesting sites. These birds will make a nest out of ANYTHING. If you leave your convertible top down, a wren will have a nest in your cupholders on your lunch break. Love these crazy birds!
Yes they will, even in old bees nests. 😂 They're fearless for such little cuties. They scold us all the time lol. I love it. I had been telling my young aduIt son about them, he had gotten me a small bird house for mother's day and wrens claimed it. I was telling him how they scold me when I go outside. So one day I heard one outside and got a message from him. He was working on the car and one came right up to him a few feet away and sat there giving him the business 😂 He said I think I just met your birds mom, the ones from the bird house he got for them. 😅
@@metalmamasue3680 that's too cute! We were forbidden from using our door at night all winter because 2 wrens decided our Christmas wreath was the best roosting spot. Didn't have the heart to take the wreath down until they moved on to nest season!

One of my favorites! I started watching this and my indoor cat came running up the hall looking for the wren. He kept looking at the window where the tree is where these guys hang out and tease him!
The first time I followed a loud birdsong I was VERY surprised to see the small little package it came in too!! 🤣😂🤣 But now thanks to you I know I've been mainly hearing the males! ANY time my cats stroll through my yardc& getbto close to their nest ... scolding starts loud, strong, & "scary" (except to my cats) now I know THATS the male also & all this time I thought it was the Mama!! LOL Here in Florida's panhandle we have LOTS n LOTS of Carolina wrens. Our Mockingbirds imitate them sometimes 🤣😂🤣 I love learning from you!! 🥰🥰
I hear ya! It's amazing to see the culprit behind such a loud voice. Too funny about your cat upsetting them. I think Carolina Wrens have the biggest personality of all the small birds and they really don't care how little they are, haha! With the scolding calls it could be the female as well. The only calls the females don't make are the Cheer calls and they don't sing the tea kettle song. I hope that helps :) Have a wonderful evening.

A Carolina Wren in my yard sang a song I've never heard before, today. Even Merlin Bird ID didn't get it right... but it was definitely a Carolina! Guess he must be a trend-setter songbird!
It could be a young bird that either didn't have enough male tutors to learn form so it instead learned songs from other species, or it could be a young bird that is still in the process of getting it right :)
When I worked at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle WA hebhad a family of Wrens make a nest in the goat barn and we watched it all year. It was incredible.
Lesley ---that chatter call is outrageous.....you amaze me with the knowledge you have ...you should teach in a College.....we are supposed to get over 2 ft of snow next couple of days.... stocked up on feed and nuts...hope it spares you...stay safe God Bless

Hi, thank you for the very nice comment 🙂 It is wonderful about you getting to see many of the birds I make videos about. You have a blessed, cozy day as well 🤗🐦
I wake to these cuties every morning. I see them in my yard all the time in southern, coastal SC. I’ve had a hermit thrush hanging out under my feeder all winter. He mostly stands there and just looks around.
Lol, I was literally just telling a friend about the little wrens in our yard and what a big voice they have for such a tiny little frame... How serendipitous!
They are awesome, and onIy smaII in size. They are mighty in their own minds 😂. We have one out back and out front, they yell at each other every morning, and then us humans the rest of the day. ❤ 🤣👍 Some of my favorites for sure.
Woke my bird dog up watching this, oops! But learned a lot about a bird I didn't know much about, so thank you! We have House Wrens here in the summer, but if I'm being honest, they kinda annoy the heck out of me with their constant, all day long, shrill "singing" I guess it's called, lol! Very much appreciated the name of the calls in the upper right hand corner, so helpful. Also loved the "teapot" and "loading" graphics... too funny! 🤣
Hahahah poor pup. Too cute. I'm glad you enjoyed the loading bar we laughed so much while making that part. And the teapot graphic is always a winner :D haha
Years ago my rather young little brother heard one of these singing what sounded like his name and exclaimed "It's saying Jeremy!" He passed away a couple years ago, as a strong young man of 24. The following spring a pair of his childhood 'Jeremy Birds' nested in a flower pot on my parents' front porch, and another pair nested in my outdoor workshop.
I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. What a beautiful message to you and your parents from the wrens. ❤ I have also always thought they were saying "Jeremy." :)
Really enjoyed watching and listening to these amazing little birds. The Carolina Wren is one of my favorite birds…Thanks for your always informative videos…
I really enjoyed this video - especially liked that part on the duet sounds of the male and female Carolina Wrens. We've had several reported the past few years hear in the Ottawa area and I was fortunate enough to see one a few years ago. Such an interesting little bird and impressive volume as well! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, Neil! I'm so glad you enjoyed the duet part. Pretty neat how the female does that, it's cute! You're lucky that they have been in your area. I hope you get to see one this Spring or at least hear them. Have a great Sunday Evening. 😊🐦

Our landlord wrens check for moths every morning under our planter boxes. They find so many- I don’t know how the moths aren’t extinct. We call them landlords because they will barge in our house every time we leave the door open for more than 30 minutes. Checking our air filters, I guess.
What a great video! The Carolina Wren just might be my favorite bird. They just have so much personality! I've had the same family of Carolina Wrens nesting in my garage (3 door garage, with the door always open because it's busted) for over 20 years now. What's so funny to me is that they always pick a different place to nest in. One year it was an old metal mailbox, that was just laying there, discarded in a corner. Another year they nested in my grandparents old freezer, because the door was left open. They even nested in my Dad's old baseball glove from the 1950's. Great video, Lesley! BirdsWalkingDown takes the absolute BEST footage of birds on youtube, hands down, so thank you too, sir!
I love these adorable, bold, little birds. I remember something made me cry out at a swimming spot one day, and I walked off on a small trail to have a good cry. A little Carolina wren landed on a bush nearby, literally 2 ft from my face, and sat there flicking from branch to branch investigating me. It wasn't scared of me at all. It felt strangely comforting.
What a wonderful song they have. I have definitely heard that song now I know who it is. I think one visited my feeder this winter, I never saw it again but certainly looked like a Carolina Wren. Thank you for another informative video 😊
love the carolina wren.. such a nice little bird... though, sometimes annoying when they are making that high call right under your window at 6 am in the morning.
I love Carolina Wrens! And really enjoyed you putting this video together, Lesley! I have a pair that do the duet quite often, and since they’re very close to where I’m watching them, I get a nice close-up show!😊❤️
Such beautiful music! I loved listening to the males songs when I lived in New Jersey! I’ve since moved to southwest Florida, and no longer hear them. Thank you for such a wonderful presentation!❤️
Love those little birds. There's a pile of them here all the time. One pair made a nest under the top of my old chicken coop and raised a clutch while I was building my second coop. Was afraid they might abandon the nest since I was working only a few feet away everyday. But they stuck it out and brought the babies off the nest about the same time I finished the new build. Couple of days later they found their way into my black soldier fly bin. ChaChing! lol They finished feeding out the babies with my bugs and now all five of them are in and out of the bin all day long. They sometimes come by when I'm feeding the bin and sit on the side frame waiting for me to finish so they can get to their tasty bugs. lol I harvest about a half gallon of larva out of the bin every day for my birds. Those little guys hardly scratch the surface of the brazillion bugs in there. Nights will cool off soon though and they'll have to go on the hunt again. They're very good at that though. Kept seeing them carrying green inch worms to their babies and was watching them one day. They were hopping around searching under poison oak leaves and finding those little worms. Crafty little things they are.
The Pavarotti of the woods. ;-) Some time ago, I read in an online article that the part of the brain where birds' singing abilities are located shrinks and increases with the seasons. When the days get longer, the number of neurons increases (if I remember it correctly).
I've heard some of these calls before and wondered which bird was singing - next time I'll know. Thanks! (And I love your indignation on the part of the female wrens!)
Wow, what a huge variety of they have! It must have taken a heck of a lot of intense observation to determine which calls belong to the male and which to the female. Lovely video and commentary. 😊
Adore these wee birds! We live in southwestern Pa., and we've had a sweet little guy I call "Cinnamon" coming to our feeders for a few years now. Just this week we noticed he's got a girlfriend. 😊 So cute. Love their pretty, pretty songs!
I spent about an hour attempting to identify what I now know is a “duet” between a pair of these cuties. I had a general idea of which bird I saw, but every site I consulted failed to capture the duet between the male and female. I started to doubt my ID skills, but then I happened up your video during a Google search. I found the beautiful duet that I was hearing. Thank you!
We live in northern Ontario and have 2 Carolina wrens in our area for almost 2 years now! Very loud and proud! But we need a few females. Lovely to watch them and hear the diversity of the calls.
I miss your videos. No one makes bird videos as beautiful and interesting. I pray that you are in good health and at least getting to see your little “friends “.😊
I'm pretty sure I've thought I was hearing cardinals before, too, when I'd hear that loud, beautiful song, but try as I might, I just couldn't spot that splash of bright red. Now I know why.
Thank you for watching! 🙂🐦

Wow! Thank you! I was trying to record a guitar hymn and this little guy was a loud voice and so beautiful!!❤
My favorite singer and I love their business eating insects in my vegetable garden
Thanks I'm in Ohio 6a, and they should show up anytime
When I worked at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle WA hebhad a family of Wrens make a nest in the goat barn and we watched it all year. It was incredible.
I love these birds, love these videos too 👍
Carolina Wrens are fantastic little rascals 😄 Thanks for the very nice comment 🐦
Lesley ---that chatter call is outrageous.....you amaze me with the knowledge you have ...you should teach in a College.....we are supposed to get over 2 ft of snow next couple of days.... stocked up on feed and nuts...hope it spares you...stay safe God Bless
You are too kind, I have to say that I learn a lot from the pros :)
That's crazy about your area getting 2 feet of snow, I really really really hope that doesn't come out way, hahah! Take care of yourself and have a great evening.
Hi, Lesley. I love your content. I've been watching for a while. I meet a lot of the same winged friends you've made wonderful videos about. Just wanted to say hello. Have a blessed, cozy day.
Hi, thank you for the very nice comment 🙂 It is wonderful about you getting to see many of the birds I make videos about. You have a blessed, cozy day as well 🤗🐦
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I hear Caroline wern sometimes where I live ☝️
I wake to these cuties every morning. I see them in my yard all the time in southern, coastal SC. I’ve had a hermit thrush hanging out under my feeder all winter. He mostly stands there and just looks around.
Lol, I was literally just telling a friend about the little wrens in our yard and what a big voice they have for such a tiny little frame...
How serendipitous!
Wow awesome! It's pretty neat how things work out like that sometimes :)
A favorite of mine, the Carolina Wren. A lot of personality and a beautiful voice.
Cutest tails!!! Sweetest songs!!!
I love these little guys! Everything from their scolding rasps to their happy cheerful songs 💕🥰
Thanks! I look forward to your videos.
Thank you very much, Mark. I appreciate it and I'm so happy that you enjoy the content. Have a great Sunday Evening
Years ago my rather young little brother heard one of these singing what sounded like his name and exclaimed "It's saying Jeremy!"
He passed away a couple years ago, as a strong young man of 24.
I heard this song every morning growing up on the east coast.
Really enjoyed watching and listening to these amazing little birds. The Carolina Wren is one of my favorite birds…Thanks for your always informative videos…
Oh how stunning!
My favorite bird songs are from the Carolina Wren. Great video Lesley!
I can totally see why theirs are your favorite. 😊What an all-around wonderful little bird they are 🐦
I really enjoyed this video - especially liked that part on the duet sounds of the male and female Carolina Wrens.
My favorite bird, they always sing early in the morning. I've seen them hidden behind bushes. 🥰😍 one hide in the old car my grandma had
Excellent summary of Carolina Wren! Thanks.
Thanks so much :)
4:06 Wow 🤩 Thank you Lesley I finally have the chance to meet the birdie that makes this sound in the morning around my house I always tought it was a Texas mocking bird but it’s this tiny cute 🥰 Gracias for sharing I don’t see that on animal planet 😝 lol keep up the great work!!! Saludos!!!👋😊👋you have a great day now!!!😊
They love to eat spiders. Put up a nest box and leave the chemicals at the store.
Yes! Agree 1000 percent 😊
They are attacking a now mostly vacant yellow jacket nest. They fear nothing I swear. Lol
Our landlord wrens check for moths every morning under our planter boxes. They find so many- I don’t know how the moths aren’t extinct.
We call them landlords because they will barge in our house every time we leave the door open for more than 30 minutes. Checking our air filters, I guess.
I need about five nesting boxes around my house! We have a terrible problem with spiders. Spiders love vinyl siding, evidently.
Love these little gems...
I have a pair that do the duet quite often, and since they’re very close to where I’m watching them, I get a nice close-up show!😊❤️
You are soooo lucky to get those birds and to hear them like that. I think they are the best. Thank you for the kind comment, have a great evening.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd ❤️
So LOUD
i love how you feed all the birds 🐦 🕊
Such beautiful music! I loved listening to the males songs when I lived in New Jersey! I’ve since moved to southwest Florida, and no longer hear them. Thank you for such a wonderful presentation!❤️
Too cute!!! 🤗🥰🤗🥰🤗
They sometimes come by when I'm feeding the bin and sit on the side frame waiting for me to finish so they can get to their tasty bugs. lol
I harvest about a half gallon of larva out of the bin every day for my birds.
The Pavarotti of the woods. ;-)
Some time ago, I read in an online article that the part of the brain where birds' singing abilities are located shrinks and increases with the seasons. When the days get longer, the number of neurons increases (if I remember it correctly).
I love watching and listening to the Carolina Wren. Thanks Leslie
My favorite birds❤
I've heard some of these calls before and wondered which bird was singing - next time I'll know. Thanks! (And I love your indignation on the part of the female wrens!)
Love the Carolina Wren! Been hearing its song for a couple years now and yes it's loud and wonderfully gifted by our Creator with great song!
Definitely hear many more of them than see them. Sometimes one will call then two or three more will. Thanks for posting! 👍♥️
Another great video and cute bird .
Wow, what a huge variety of they have! It must have taken a heck of a lot of intense observation to determine which calls belong to the male and which to the female. Lovely video and commentary. 😊
They are so joyfully round ❤️
Adore these wee birds! We live in southwestern Pa., and we've had a sweet little guy I call "Cinnamon" coming to our feeders for a few years now. Just this week we noticed he's got a girlfriend. 😊 So cute. Love their pretty, pretty songs!
Way too sweet about your little wren having a girlfriend, gosh birds are the cutest ever!
Thank you!
thank you for the wonderful songs
Thank you Leslie, awesome video
We live in northern Ontario and have 2 Carolina wrens in our area for almost 2 years now! Very loud and proud! But we need a few females. Lovely to watch them and hear the diversity of the calls.
You are such great teacher!!!
Wow, thank you for the wonderful compliment :)
The song battles have begun in earnest this past week or so. Sign of Spring. Thanks for posting! 👍♥️
Wow!! Great stuff❤You have a new subscriber 😊
Thanks so much :)
Awesome video Lesley!
Thank you very much for all the help :)
I miss your videos. No one makes bird videos as beautiful and interesting. I pray that you are in good health and at least getting to see your little “friends “.😊
The first time I encountered a Carolina wren was hearing one. I had only seen Eurasian wrens before. I thought it was a cardinal!
I'm pretty sure I've thought I was hearing cardinals before, too, when I'd hear that loud, beautiful song, but try as I might, I just couldn't spot that splash of bright red. Now I know why.
