It’s the best when all the film gurus can get together and just shoot. Wish I had friends that were as geeked out about film as all of us that shoot film in this day and age.
As someone who owns a Hasselblad I love to see an RZ guy’s thoughts on it, as well as seeing you try 6x6 was super awesome. Some awesome compositions, it’s super interesting seeing a photographer adapt like that and change how they shoot on the fly with a new camera.
@@randallstewart175 In regard to film waste, one billed the client for the project and back then, some of us cropped at lot anyway. Also, if one could afford to buy a new 500 C/M in the past, who was worrying about it? At least I didn't when I thought of the money I spent on Polaroid for previews. 🙂
I've shot Leicas, Contax, and the old Zeiss 6x9 cameras, but I have to say the look and rendering of those old Hasselblad lenses, as well as how great the camera looks, feels and sounds is pure magic!
@NorthSoundGaming I was there in 2010. Can't say that I loved it but it's nice to have options to challenge composition when shooting film as well as posting to that platform.
I appreciate your review of the Hasselbald 500CM. For decades it has been my dream camera but always priced out of reach. I recall maybe a decade or so ago, you could buy one with the 80mm Zeiss lens for about $650 to $1000. It was in the middle of the Great Recession and being a single parent of twins, I couldn't justify the purchase. Now I have supported my daughters through college, and one through her service in West Africa with the Peace Corps, the price of Hasselbalds have more than tripled. I don't need it, its really just functional bling.
So stoked you used my favourite personal camera! The light leaks you mentioned are probably from the dark slide being removed and lots of sun hitting it. Most likely and weak seal on that side of the back. Love the photos though!!
Just looked at this video and what strikes me is all the people that watch took time to like and comment and you didn’t say shit! You’re better than that and not that good so respect and show love that do it for you! #growthaFup!
Every time vuh makes a video, people are going to buy that same camera and use the same film stock used thinking they are going to get the same vuhlandes bangers, but they don’t because vuh is just that good. He really is a beast with such a good eye for scenes and people
6x6 is a tough format to compose with. We're so used to a rectangular format that square feels very unnatural. However, you don't have to display the entire 6x6 image. You can crop it before displaying it. I've shot with Hasselblad for years and I rarely actually use the square format for the final image. Granted, the negative is smaller than the RZ67 or Pentax 67, but it still provides outstanding resolution and colors. Great video!
The light leak on the left means the light seal needs to be a replaced and since it happened on the first frame it means the dark slide is pushing against the worn out seal causing light to come in. Also harsh light reflections on the slide hitting the camera as you’re taking it out and putting it back in can cause it to do the same as well. But all in all, love seeing my favorite camera being showcased. -proud hassy owner
Hi! The lightleaks are pretty commen with hasselblads. Its the rubber from the back that is worn down by the darkslide. So tips for anyone owning a Hasselblad, remove the darkslide if you store the camera for a longer periode of time! (without film ofcourse). Same goes for the A16 back (a 6x4,5 back that shoot 16 frames). Cheers!
I have several vintage and working 6x6 cameras, all folders, except for a Pentacon 6TL SLR. I'm still not used to square format, but still trying. What I really want to try is 6x9. Great video, as always.
Just hopped on one of these and I’m loving the 6x6 I was the same way where I wasn’t sure how I felt about it but now I love it for everyday shooting and for portraits as well Will for sure still use my Pentax 67 but that’s been collecting dust for a while now ever since I got the hassy
I love 6X6, I have a bronica SQ-A and it's so fun to use. I mostly shoot portraits so the square format really works for my stuff (also it works well for IG lmao)
Many years ago I rented that model camera from Calumet Photographic Chicago ( long out of business ) .I've no objections to the 6x6 cm format as the camera does not need to be turned for either portraits or landscapes. My only objection to the camera design was that I found the polished chrome finish a bit too slippery for comfortable hand holding without using either special gloves or the manufacturer's hand grip.
Over four decades ago, I bought my new 500 C/M because I liked to use the newer CF lenses instead of the older EV coupled C ones. Just because it is a 6x6, I didn't always compose images in 6x6 but cropped to portrait or landscape. Hence, I DIY grids on my VF screen using artist transparent tapes. Not to mention one of the advantages of using a 6x6 is no need to rotate the camera for portrait or landscape composition.
6x6 is amazing. Instagram has shown to billions that 6x6 is the truth. I shoot with a Hasselblad SWC and I find I get lost in the simplicity of the camera and its images. I enjoyed your video and subscribed.
Because of you I now wanna fly out and shit, just to shoot video and take pics bro, appreciate the content and motivation, keep uploading! OH YEA, AND GET PAID TOO LOL...
Shooting 6x6 with a ground glass that has 645 framelines on it is the way to go, if you don't mind "wasting" a bit of the film. You frame your shot like it's 645 and crop down later, so you can shoot landscape and portrait oriented shots without having to turn the camera body.
6x6 is definitely not for everyone. I’m the only one in my thesis class that shot 6x6. I fell in love when I upgraded to medium format a couple years ago and haven’t looked back.
The 6x6 format was invented for marriage photographers or photographers that worked in very chaotic situations and had to shoot fast, so they made the square format so that you could choose if crop it vertically or orizontally in post (in fact there is no square printing paper). When I learned this thing it opened a completely different point of view with my rolleicord, maybe it could help you too hating less the 6 by 6 format xD

Appreciate that. And yes it was different but definitely fun to try something new!
I think of 6x6 as a 645 format I don't have to rotate 90 degrees to take a vertical. In that respect, it is a considerable waste of film.
