I never repot my succulents from the arrangement I get at the store. But I'm beginning to learn they don't plant properly- soil, water, or similarity. Thanks for the video! More confidence to take better care of milk babies
This is a great video! Especially since there are other Plant-Tubers I've seen who will make arrangements and not only jam in there as many plants as physically possible (like 11 different baby cuttings into a 1inch pot!!) ; but also combine varieties and sizes without any mention of the different care needs or period of dormancy. This really leads to the erroneous beliefs that succulents and cacti "thrive on neglect " or "they ALL need the same care". I'm sure many people will have a better idea of what their own arrangements need with this video! ♡
Grouping succulents is definitely challenging. I have mostly gone with the trial and error method and some have worked and others not...mostly it’s because I don’t have a ton of room for small individual pots so try to combine them. Some are really taking off though, so happy they are not all fails 😋
Looks like I am in good company! It's a puzzle, all this matching of watering, light requirement and pots! I do like bigger statement plants in their own pot - really standout, but I've recently tried mixing a few little growing babies in smaller arrangements and they do look so cute!
I am amazed and sometimes delightfully surprised at which of my arrangements do really well. You are always a wonderful help when I send you photos and videos asking for help
I love your arrangements! It’s helpful to look at arranging in terms of who will live well with who. I mainly struggle with deciding what will look good in an arrangement (colors, shapes, etc.) and then knowing how much space to leave in an arrangement.
Thank you! For help with colors and shapes that go well together, you may find this video to be helpful as well: ua-cam.com/video/8mLam6EmpBQ/v-deo.html
Thank you for the info. I'm new to growing succulents and didn't think about grouping them could be challenging. I only have one pot with several succulents and so far have been lucky as they are doing good.
It is sooo tempting to prioritize visual appeal when grouping succulents. Thanks for emphasizing the importance of instead prioritizing cultural requirements.
The one time I attempted a succulent arrangement, the stand I had the planter on collapsed spilling the plants & breaking them. I never tried again. Your video hAs encouraged me to do it again.
When I made arrangements I basically looked at what looked good together. I had some success with that but now after watching your video I see I need to go about it in a different way. Thank you for all of the information!
I've been keeping succulents for about 18 months now and I still don't have the courage to make arrangements. I still worry that I'll do something wrong and lose the whole pot of plants.
Love what you said about the trial and error. I used to be so afraid on making some succulents arrangements before. But this spring is different I started making some arrangements as my experiment :) we shall see if they survive or not.
Your arrangements look a lot like mine. Usually I start with a jade for height, one or two rosette plants for color, and then a donkey tail and a string of pearls for trailing. I honestly just do plants that look good together and haven’t worried that much about individual watering needs. All of the plants seem happy.
I haven’t started making arrangements yet but I have switched mostly to terra cotta and bonsai jack. It’s weird to see some of mine showing me signs of being under watered. Still trying to figure it all out!
Trial and error for sure. I am anxious to get back to my potted succulents in Florida to see how they survived, died, or flourished with their “neighbors”. I love the look of variety so crossing my fingers.
I have tiptoed into doing an arrangement, if I can even call it that! Last weekend I planted my new burrito and jade plants together in a terra cotta pot (by coincidence since you just pointed that out in your video). We shall see how it does..then I'll dip more toes in.
I really enjoy grouping succulents and while it can be very rewarding, as you said, it's not always successful. Some of my more successful arrangements tend to include various plants in the same species. For instance, I have pot of three very different aloe growing together and another with various gasteria. I'd also love to make another pot of fuzzy kalanchoe to replace the ones I lost to the winter storm. But it's also fun mixing species and one of my favorites is a mix of zebra plant (Haworthia fasciata) on one side, Tiger Jaws (Faucaria tigrina) taking up a third of the space, and a variety of Haworthia emelyae snuggled up against it.
I’m still not confident in my arrangements so many of mine are in individual pots but I am going to start trying to put some new arrangements together soon!
I am go glad you had this video. I was potting some of my succulents and started looking up what plant would work best together. I was also wondering if you could put succulents and catus together in an arrangement. I feel like you are making these videos just for me.
A little bit of both. I just depends on what I have available. I do try to reuse soil when I'm repotting as long as the plants were healthy. But I tend to get a lot of new plants, so I end up using new soil too :)
Thanks for doing this video this is super helpful and it’s making me want to make some changes. Also do you have a video on which types of succulents are summer dormant vs winter dormant and how to care for them during their dormancy period?
Thank you so much for this video. :D I am about to make two separate arrangements - one of the full sun-loving succulents, and one of bright shade. They are all cuttings, so I am hoping I can get them to all establish well together.
Carrie thanks so much for this video! I love looking at all the great arrangements out there and would love to do a few myself but have feared not knowing which ones are better together. Another great lesson! Thank you.
I have one pot that has multiple plants and it has been a trial and error experience. Soak and dry method is what I stick to and I make sure that all the plants in the pot need the same amount of watering. Your container tip is very helpful for adjusting to slightly different watering needs. I just wish I could get all my plants to get bigger. I have grow lights on for twelve hours and keep track of watering as needed (by looking at their leaves).
Right now all of my succulents are in their own Terracotta pots. I would love top figure out how to put them together I'm afraid to do that. Even if i buy puts that have multiple plants in i take them apart to get them in gritty mix.
The terracotta pots are my go to pots from now on! In addition, I didn't realize there were so many different types of succulents, let alone the fact that the have different requirements. There is so much to "soak up" but I know that I can just go back to a video to review. Thanks:)
Cassidy I use the gritty mix also but it’s so hard to get my water meter down into the soil to see if it needs water. Do you have a suggestion for this?
We don't recommend using a water meter with a gritty mix -- it won't get a true measurement. Instead, follow the directions in this video: ua-cam.com/video/9-yp-JPXENM/v-deo.html
I'm not an arrangement type of girl but these were very pretty and put together well. I especially liked the cactus one, all had their own space which is probably how I'd make an arrangement if I ever do.
They can go either way. More space between succulents gives them more room to grow and spread. Planting them close together slows down the growth and will keep them a little smaller. It just depends on what you want them to do :)
Well, one thing I found out is Crassulas do not like 110 degree weather for weeks on end. My poor Ivory towers is sunburned and melting. So is my Crassula rupestris. I brought the rippled Jade in long time ago. I need to pull them out of the arrangements, because the other plants are likin the heat. Good info!
Elephant bush is pretty accommodating. I've combined it with Echeveria, Crassula, Sedum, Kalanchoe... Pretty much anything. Here's more details about caring for it: succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-elephant

How often do you soak your succulents? Or what is a good indicator that it's time? I'm new to succulents and I've already killed a crassula cutting (rooted) and an echiveria by watering too much! Thanks!
I never repot my succulents from the arrangement I get at the store. But I'm beginning to learn they don't plant properly- soil, water, or similarity. Thanks for the video! More confidence to take better care of milk babies
Glad to hear that it isn’t just me that has one succulent die but the other survive in arrangements
I'm just trying to keep individual succulents alive and growing! I hope Queen Debbie is happy with all your ministrations! 😁
Not quite at the arrangements stage yet...this has provided the push I needed!
I like combining succulents to save space😊 Thanks for this video! Now I can be more diligent with what succulents should go together!
Trial and error - that's been my whole succulent experience so far! LOL
I liked the information it was helpful. I'm still new to succulents and trying to figure out what to put together.
The coloring on the "Debbie" is gorgeous!!!

Very informative! Cuttings need more water than rooted plants👍👍👍
Now I'm tempted to grow my Succulents under grow light.. Great video! Thank you.
Another very informative video. I am a beginner and it's wonderful to have your guidance to prevent me from making too many mistakes.
Good info for me as I begin to make more group plantings for my expanding succulent garden!!
I need some more terra cotta pots!! Thanks for the info!
Really liked the first arrangement.
I am amazed and sometimes delightfully surprised at which of my arrangements do really well. You are always a wonderful help when I send you photos and videos asking for help

I love the cactus arrangement. This is the area I struggle in, combining succulents...thank you!
I always struggle with putting in too few vs. too many succulents in arrangements.
Always something new to learn...and some very vital to the plants lives!
I crochet arrangements of succulents and cacti, and never reeeallly thought about how much though would go into arranging a real one!
That is so cool!
This is great information! I'm definitely wary of starting an arrangement but after watching this video I feel more confident in creating one!
Great information, I will have to apply this to the arrangements I plan on making!

I truly am in the trial and error stage of learning who loves to be together!
This is great information. I have tried (and failed) with several. It’s definitely trial and error for me. Thanks for this video.
You are very welcome! Hope it helps
wow. Your arrangements are beautiful. I don't think I'm ready for that yet, but I will save this for when I am.
Thank you for the info. I'm new to growing succulents and didn't think about grouping them could be challenging. I only have one pot with several succulents and so far have been lucky as they are doing good.
I am having so much fun playing with arrangements. It's good to get some directives 😉
I havent even attempted arranging my babies yet since im so new to growing succulents, however; I really cant wait to! Saved for when the time comes
It is sooo tempting to prioritize visual appeal when grouping succulents. Thanks for emphasizing the importance of instead prioritizing cultural requirements.
I wish I could be more successful with arrangements. Definitely trial and error on what works together and I’m still learning! 🤩
The one time I attempted a succulent arrangement, the stand I had the planter on collapsed spilling the plants & breaking them. I never tried again. Your video hAs encouraged me to do it again.
Glad for the info! As a beginner plant mom, this was helpful.
Thank you. I’m just starting out with succulents. This is great information!!!
When I made arrangements I basically looked at what looked good together. I had some success with that but now after watching your video I see I need to go about it in a different way. Thank you for all of the information!
i did not know that zebra plant likes shade. I got mine in the afternoon sun !!! i need to move it today .
This is a great help for creating succulent arrangements. Thanks!
I have not yet concord the arrangement craft, but I am still trying! Thank you again for all of your wisdom with this....it is VERY helpful! 😁

Newbie to succulents. Need more lessons.
Thank you for your info.
Great advice for setting up planters. Will follow your advice for my outdoor planters. Thanks
Great video again, haven’t started doing many arrangements yet but great suggestions.thank you
Rhonda Dixon
All my succulents are in individual pots but may have to try pairing a few up. Thanks!

Fun to hear how to combine succulents. You have taught me to have each plant in a separate pot and just display them next to each other. LOL
great teaching video on succulents, their needs, and how to properly care for them. i loved it - thank you so much!!! :)
You are very welcome!🙂
This is something I'm open to trying, now that I have a guideline!
Great information! I have just recently started with small arrangements just to test my succulents. It's so fun when it works out beautifully.
I really struggle with putting succulents together that need the same amount of light and water. Thank you for all the great tips!
Love the first arrangement. It's so pretty!
Thanks for another video full of really useful information. You give me hope! LOL
I have tiptoed into doing an arrangement, if I can even call it that! Last weekend I planted my new burrito and jade plants together in a terra cotta pot (by coincidence since you just pointed that out in your video). We shall see how it does..then I'll dip more toes in.
This video came at the perfect time. Thx! I have a couple of bigger pots and was wondering what the rules were for keeping everyone happy. 😁
I just started getting interested in succulents, interesting plants!
I never knew that about the terra cotta. Your videos are always so informative! 🌵
still learning, but thankful for all the guidance
Wish I'd seen this video before making those arrangements on the back patio. Hope they live! 😕
I really enjoy grouping succulents and while it can be very rewarding, as you said, it's not always successful. I tried to make a few arrangements just a few weeks ago. A bit early to say how they're doing but at least they look nice 😁
Another helpful video! Thanks again! 👍🏻
I’m going to try this soon. Thanks for the info.
Good info. I love experimenting with mine!
I am go glad you had this video. I was potting some of my succulents and started looking up what plant would work best together. I was also wondering if you could put succulents and catus together in an arrangement. I feel like you are making these videos just for me.
Your videos are the best!
This video came at the right time! thanks
This was mind blowing, so much info, thank you so much. I have so many succulents in little pots, it’s time to try an arrangement
You are very welcome! Glad it was helpful for you 🙂
So encouraging. Trial and error here welcome. Do you use completely new soil or a mixture of old and new? What do you do with the old soil?
A little bit of both. I just depends on what I have available. I do try to reuse soil when I'm repotting as long as the plants were healthy. But I tend to get a lot of new plants, so I end up using new soil too :)
Will try putting some together soon.
So many good tips!! It’s still hit and miss for me but I’m looking forward to trying more arrangements!
Thanks for doing this video this is super helpful and it’s making me want to make some changes. Also do you have a video on which types of succulents are summer dormant vs winter dormant and how to care for them during their dormancy period?
All my succulents are in individual pots. I'm not sure about doing an arrangement yet.
Same here
I made a few arrangements in the past few weeks, totally not realizing different needs. They’re doing ok, so far....

I learn the soak and dry method from one of your earlier videos and I love it. Do succulents like to be crowded in with other succulents ?
They can go either way. More space between succulents gives them more room to grow and spread. Planting them close together slows down the growth and will keep them a little smaller.

Just starting to get the guts to make arrangements. Some have worked, lost a few too.
Very helpful video!
Thank you!
Hello great video, thanks. What does go well with elephant bush? I have lost a few & don’t know why. Thanks again, Jan

I always just keep my in separate pots but maybe I’ll give it a try now
what about a cement container?
Not as familiar with cement containers, but it should work if it has a drainage hole🙂
Can you combine succulents and ivy together in a planter
They probably have different watering and light needs, but you are welcome to try 😊
@@Succulentsandsunshine I’ve grown them together outside in a planter and they really worked well together so I’m hoping they will work indoor too!!
Let us know! Glad they are working well together
