Nicholas Hoult’s acting here is very underrated - I don’t see anyone talking abt it! He was so good with portraying his character I hated him with all my guts. As a Skins fan, I can’t help but be proud of him 😭🥺👏
@@Banininator That’s what is great about his performance. He’s supposed to be a very middling man, who is obsessed with this niche culture, but is incapable of doing anything himself. He played it perfectly.
i wanna talk about the script of this movie. it’s just brilliant, the way everyone has their own conversation but it doesn’t make it hard to follow and everything how everything just connects. incredible
I highly recommend reading the original script, which has key differences with the final film. For example, the relationship between Margot & Tyler is completely different, the very ending is different (in a cool, interesting way), and John Leguizamo's character is Daniel Radcliffe playing himself! (the film chef hated is the widely loathed Victor Frabkenstein). The PDF of the script isn't hard to find online because it made the Blacklist of the best unproduced screenplays of that year. I read it in June and thought it was bonkers, clever, satirical, weird, and darkly funny.
My my kids and I love to cook together. We watched this film together, and over the holiday weekend, while we were all preparing Thanksgiving dinner, I yelled out 'Plating in 5 minutes' and everyone yelled out, 'yes chef', which I followed up with "I love you all". We had guests over, that had no idea about the movie, and they had a 'wtf' look on their face. lol. Love this movie.
Something about that cheeseburger that I like is it's obvious that he's getting really excited about the prospect just discussing it - he keeps it under his hat, but when Margot requests american cheese and his response is "American cheese is the best type for a cheeseburger as it melts without cracking" you can tell that internally his inner child is yelling "Well, DUH! What else?!"
It is that sort of trivia that you share with people you feel safe around or comfortable to be your real self around, your passions and interests, and its beautiful that in that moment "margot" shatters slowiks wall and causes him to lay his real self bare, and in the end services him by allowing to remember when he enjoyed cooking, and gave him one last chance before the menu was complete to cook with love and passion
Honestly it feels like one. The potential for audience interaction is strong, too. Especially if you could up the price of admission and include some food for the audience--an appetizer or stylized little dessert or complementary gift bag.
Yes! It could be like an audience experience where they are served the same meals as the actors and feel as though they are a part of it. Also it wouldn’t have to be a typical actors on a stage vibe. Like just a large open space with actors sat amongst audience at the table but no one knows who’s the actor so you really feel involved
I didn't planned it (ok, maybe a little bit), but I watched 'The Menu' twice and second time was even more fun. And I took a lesson from Slowik's character - never stop enjoying what you love doing. I love watching movies, I enjoy learning about movies and making of as much as I can for my own entertainment. But movies and cinema never cease to amaze me. I'm 36 and I'm still like a kid watching magic trick. And 'The Menu' was one hell of a trick!
I'm also a movie freak and watched it two days in a row. I've found all the movie reviews still missing so many references and that just shows how much was going on in this quiet film.
Ive recently fallen back in love with going to the theatres. Lately Ive been taking my 15 year-old nephew every Saturday night so I dont get to see many adult films. He goes to boarding school an hour away during the week and doesn't have alot of friends in the neighbourhood to hang out with on the wknds. Weve been having so much and really lolking forward to The Boogeyman in May. Just recently watched the new Avatar and John Wick and Scream 6 (terrible, but he enjoyed it). Were also excited to see the new Nicholas Cage Dracula film.
i love how its a social satire of high end dining and foody culture, and yet they still got a chef to make the food that is that very type of food culture thats being satirized. it's just great.
@@ZombieZifiction Nope was awful, it went from Horror to a 70s esk hallmark cowboy flick very fast, especially the reporter guy with the chrome mask with that goofy ass voice. Also apparently it's about white culture sickening over black culture. Like with the asian guy growing up on a sitcom white show, then to capture this alien as a rodeo master in a stereotypical western fare with cliches everywhere. Such a weird message, and annoying that it isn't about an alien, but instead some stupid race message.

@@deborah-weiss the movie quite literally explains it. In the chic culinary world, there’s an almost obsessive relationship between chefs and sous chefs, bordering (and sometimes crossing) abusive. In this case, they gave their lives for the menu

But…. what if, when they said, while being bent over their work: “We love you too, chef!” tiny specks of spittle ended up on the commestible pieces of art in front of them?
I ended up watching this after having my curiosity piqued seeing a clip on here and it was phenomenal. I hope no one watches this before they watch the film but it was far better than I had expected. The minutiae and attention to detail of the filmmakers was absolutely brilliant. I'm English and had seen Anya Taylor-Joy in a few things when she was younger like Endeavour but she was absolutely superb (like everyone was) in this. Strange seeing these 3 English actors playing Americans in the same film but they made it seem effortless.
This movie is definitely unlike anything I've ever seen. Like there's no comparing it to anything! Husband and I loved it!! It was weird, crazy, off-putting, just all the things!!
I mean, I think Dominique Crenn specifically designed the food to look unappetizing. I've eaten at one of her restaurants, and this wasn't the case there. Though that meal was as precious and overproduced as you might imagine, it was still delicious. This meal looked like a chore to eat. Even the big chunk of fish for the taco looked depressing.
I had a gluten free single big tasty bacon (from Macdonald's) right before the film, having no idea they'll be preparing anything fast food related, haha Funny thing is, I'd love to order a cheeseburger if there was a gluten free option, but couldn't 🙈 That'd make it even better haha
