When you throw the switch on that old rheostat you need to give us a loud, maniacal laugh like Dr. Frankenstein! "LIFE!!!! GIVE MY CREATION, LIFE!!!!!!"
To be fair you could technically fix these by re-winding the wiring with new wire, however the issue is that your effort would be burned up in another few years because they simply make these motors too small with too few turns of wire so they are basically running the motors at 130% power and the insulation fails between the wires in the coils. If you want a reliable strimmer (or power tool for that matter) I'd recommend getting something made in the 1970s and 1980s, or even the 1990s. Earlier electrical tools (Like 1940s and 1950s) had insulation on the motor windings that can fail (only seen it on a few tools though, to be fair), but 70s to 90s had newer insulation chemistries that last longer, and they were still built fairly well. Especially 1980s Craftsman tools! Their plastic injection molding is thicker and tougher as well.
@@RinoaL I honestly thought that (rewiring) when I looked at it but I also have to accept my limits and realize that without any real clue as to the inner workings of these motors, it'd likely be another item on a long list of projects of things I start but can't quite finish. speaking of those though, have you hopped on the discord train and made one yet? this would be a very rad community to engage with.
Also, I'm definitely tempted to take pictures of the motor i've got in front of me (I just need to disassemble it again) because it's actually got a ton of wire involved by comparison to this one. It's a tiny Weed Eater Electra lite 8 and I have no idea what year it came out (I got it from an estate sale along with a wildly well maintained mower) but the infuriating paradigm where we exist in a world entirely without technical documentation grieves me daily.
Nothing like a little bit of cathartic electric frying, maybe you should have given the motor in that sh1tbox twin-tube the same, to teach it for screwing up the well.
Nice to see you on again. Really would like to find a variable transformer that you are using fella. Would you remember me when you find another one Rinoa ???? Keep me in the loop too. VF
@@RinoaL What was the black box with arc handle and buttons you were using to burn up the universal motor ??? The item looked like a variable transformer. Sorry for my error Rinoa. Good day too. VF
@@RinoaL He really is! Sadly he abruptly stopped uploading videos so not sure what happened. I'm disappointed that your motor didn't have the same level of fireworks. I found out that those motors actually work good for variable speed spark gap when tapped on to a low voltage transformer.
Hi Rinoa, nice piece of relax after stubborn well :) So your second incarnation is Nemezis ? You love the smell of napalm, sorry, burned motor in the morning, huh ? You have tons of comments about safety ;) but this time you earned hard a medal for improvement :D Thank you for this video, it makes me smiling, hope you really scrap the motor and don't plan to rewind it, this would make you swearing more than during archeology job ! :)
Well you swear nobly so it's fun to hear :) but dealing with miles of copper wire manually would make even Dalai Lama to explode. Anyway, waiting for your next adventure :)
Welding mask. Check!
Gloves. Check!
Bare feet. Check!
Safety Achieved!
LOL That''s Rinoa for ya! legend! I miss her Lithium batteries videos.
Oddly satisfying, loving that old Rheostat. Good stuff. Thanks.
Footwear: optional.
Flames: mandatory.
precisely, however i did worry about ranged effects like brightness but turns out my welding hood wasnt needed at all.

Motor burnouts are oddly satisfying but fun haha
Lost its north and south, brushes are worth keeping. I scrape out the gaps on the amature with a plastic scrapper, it helps after a good rub.
I love watching your videos! I like to solder electronics, fix things, and take things apart too!
Ty for saving me the uneducated adventure of seeing if my weed Wacker was fixable
Also I'm infatuated and definitely subscribed. You're a hero.

Yeah I've had a discord for years. Been on discord for longer, but I tend to keep discord as private stuff.
That reostat is a beauty. Would you consider making a video about it?
Nice burn out.
I am not sure what we learned here. An overloaded dc motor can be made to smoke and catch fire. Big surprise?
You seem to not understand how entertainment works
Hmm, shorted commutator? Impressive sparks 'n' flames!
OMG! Where did you ever find that rheostat man? That is to die for. So cool. Take good care of that bad boy.
That weed whacked isn’t completely useless, Rin. It serves admirably as an example of a piece of junk.
i have a suplus of those haha
My weed wacker start to sue smoke and sparks ⚡️
always check for continuity and shorts preferably before plugging in, but yes the sparks and arcs were fun.
My favorite way for checking continuity and shorts is by plugging it in though.
@@RinoaL LOL
Mmm, I love the smell of burned electronics in the morning! Its a special kind of stink, lol
240 volts would have sure made a light show of that little motor, it’s a shame that these machines aren’t made well anymore
Its weed wacking days are over, The sparks could of ark killed some weeds mind.
proly a shorted rotor
What ever happened to photonic induction? Loved his vids
not sure, guess life came at him and he just doesnt have time for silly videos?
Damien Maguire seems to be the latest one having fun with high voltage and high current. :)
He is fine Eevblog forum has info about him he found a wife. I also miss photonics videos
@@NiHaoMike64 Checkout DiodeGoneWild too. He's fine tuning his self designed Tesla coil in the last post. Throwing some nice sparks. :D
If he killed him selve by acident, how would we even know!?
Where did you get that huge rheostat?
flea market
@@RinoaL I have a much smaller one I use on my lights.
Rinoa, you are a very strong woman!!
@Esoteric Heretic Don't know what you're talking about there. I only see a woman in this video.

fella ?.

it was a variable resistor

This just happened to me! EGO Brand
modern fucking garbage, its sad.
Rinoa's Auspicious Travails I find old two-stroke equipment and fix it, rather than buying this new disposable junk.
i find this stuff in the garbage and let it explode or work for free. hehe

Hey can u make more lithium batteries video
i plan to

: )
Such a shocking video...
Why dont you build yourself a high power power supply out of a welder ,let you work out the details...have fun :) ♡
well i'd need high voltage for this not high amperage like a welder gives, and honestly im not a fan of high voltage.

First one 😀
actually Lummox beat you by 2 minutes.
Rinoa's Auspicious Travails :)
I will try and be the first one next time

good job
