Welcome to the official UA-cam channel of The Monkees, home of 60s chart-topping hits “Last Train To Clarksville,” “I’m A Believer” and “Daydream Believer,” as well as multi-platinum, #1 albums ‘The Monkees,’ ‘More of the Monkees,’ ‘Headquarters’ and ‘Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.’
Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

I like how in the first season it's like: Davy's got a crush :) and the boys have to pay rent!
And by season two its like: Peter has accidentally sold his soul to the devil and the boys have to save the world from an evil wizard who's using the media to control the minds of the masses
One step towards 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee...?
So what's your point?
son mí grupo musical favorito los amo y los extraño me encantaba su serie yo vivo mí adolecencia con ellos y enamorada de David todo mí amor y recuerdo a The Monkees los mejores
@@ronaldbrush8709 Better writing in the first season. Even the Monkees knew it.
Loved the second season more the guys were more creative on these episodes.
I love them so much and they deserved to be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they deserved it
Here Here
@Basil's CD And Vinyl Many groups in the Hall didn't write their own songs or play their instruments on records. That's just an excuse by Jann Wenner who vowed the Monkees would never get in.
@@howie9751 Jann Wenner is a screwball
@The Record Collector That's not entirely accurate.
The timing these guys had is absolutely beyond incredible. What a team of genius comedy relief. Came and sang and played with them through every episode.
The moment I started to notice Mike’s black gloves I literally could feel my heart getting ready to melt. Absolutely breathtaking 😍😍😍
02:08 MICKY'S PURE FASCINATION IN MIKES FACE😂
micky's crying at 1:34 makes me laugh
Ooohh Mike’s leather gloves are so beautiful and so sophisticated 😍😍😍
Nice touch, Mike doing the wake-up scene wearing street clothes, shoes, gloves and sunglasses. Really adds to the believability of the show.
Believability wasn't exactly a priority for this series!
because a show about rescuing a weed monster from space that's been held captive by a man trying to take over the world is supposed to be believable
I can close my eyes and stil remember how i felt when i see these old comedies. Just a better time back then.
The Monkees Show is my all-time favorite television show. The Monkees also happened to be all time favorite band. The 1080 upgrade looks fantastic!!!!-!-!!!!
This episode made absolutely no sense... ONE OF MY FAVORITES ☺️
WEIRDEST MONKEES EPISODE EVER! (The fact that Micky directed it had nothing to do with it! ;D ) Man, a Beatles song, Rip Taylor, the alternate version of "Zor And Zam," TIM BUCKLEY...this show went out on a high note! A WEIRD high note, but a high note nonetheless! :D
oh, they went out on a "HIGH" note alright.
Captain Fantastic it's also their last...
All it's missing is Frank Zappa but the "Chevy 39" is there with Tim Buckley.
and then the movie head was fucked up
Well said, 7 years ago! Wtg! Still awesome 2023😁
really glad that they have Good Morning beatles song!
Seems to me in some episodes of the Monkees, there's some references to The Beatles.
Micky does a commentary on this episode on the DVD - he actually went to Apple Records himself to get permission to use that song on the show!
The Beatles had many requests during their career to use their music for various purposes, but I believe this use of their Good Morning song at the beginning here was the only one they ever allowed, at least while they were still a band. (Later they sold the rights to their songs so it was out of their control.) If I remember correctly, they approved this one because Mickey and Paul were friends.
No, they gave personal permission for Patrick McGoohan to use All You Need Is Love in the final episode of The Prisoner in autumn 1967.
@@lucasoheyze4597 The Monkees seemed to have some references to The Beatles in their episodes. Even in the movie _Head_ . I can name some of them.
Beautiful restoration!
please please please release the HD restored versions on iTunes! I would totally buy both seasons, but the thing is I don't have a blue ray player. I really hope they get released digitally because the quality of these new episodes is astounding
One of my fav episodes!
Watching the side by side gets major WOW THE COLORS!! from both me and husband. Though we were going "oh god, please shut that ringing alarm off PLEASE" through most of it. I mean, the alarm clocks are all in the bedroom -- was it really necessary to keep that annoying ringing going in their living room?
Why is peter so cute
I know right he's so cute 😍
i'm very upset that most of the episodes are not on youtube anymore
Never realized how many Beatles references they made in this show
Well this show was inspired by *A Hard Day's Night* . The premise of the show was about a struggling band who lives in Malibu, California and is trying to make it huge like The Beatles. People even thought the Monkees were being cheap rip-offs or imitations of The Beatles, this the were given the nickname: the Pre-Fab Four.
They even had personalities similar to the Fab Four; Michael Nesmith was known as the "Smart One" like John Lennon, Davy Jones was known as the "Cute One" like Paul McCartney. Peter Tork however is different. In the show, Peter is the "Naive, lovable goof" *(To me, that personality is towards Ringo Starr from The Beatles Cartoon)* but in real life he's like George Harrison, liking the similar things *(Buddhism/Indian culture)* . While Micky Dolenz is known as the "Funny One" like Ringo Starr.
Please put out another printing of the remastered Monkees on blu-ray!
This was the first time I heard Good Morning by the Beatles, and I didn't even know it. I just thought it sounded so weird and unusual, but I kind of fit with the whole hypnosis-repetitive phrasing theme of the episode.
The math doesn't add up.
I'm 39 (honest) but I last watched this more than 50 years ago.
*More than FIFTY years!*
i really need to get this
up until this point i never noticed that mike was wearing his glasses upside down when he's pretending to be the "lost and found" man...
The tv: english or spanish
Peter: *hypnotized by not moving*
There would have been a big hole in the 60's without The Monkees.!
The Best! :D
We need restored all of the monkeys TV shows we do like the monkeys quite a lot especially me that is grown up with them and love the music I think the whole group was fantastic until they broke up that's what kills me but still remaining strong they still go along only with a couple left May the two left be alive for a long time and the two that have passed will never forget them may they live long and everybody's lives that I've seen them and also heard them may they rest in peace not in pieces for they won't be forgotten the live in infamy same with the other two that are left will live on for a long lives and maybe one day Parish may they rest in peace not in pieces also they won't be forgotten as well I remembered in our hearts that have seen the group says a man with a broken heart
1:34 Micky looks so sad lol
1:30 Micky Is 😭
🥺
1:34 i cryed like that when davy died
I thought imitating Micky's crying in 1:34 many times was what got me a sore throat while having a small Monkees binge. Turns out, it wasn't.
The only time The Beatles were honored.
What do you mean? In this show there was some references and in the movie _Head_ there was two references to The Beatles.
So where's the side-by-side comparison, Mr. Schneider?
At the beginning.
I think they were warning us back in 1968.
Wow❤
Freeze frame
Micky visitou os Beatles quando gravavam o Sgt. Peppers e deve ter conhecido lá a música "Good Morning Good Morning".
I'm not sure, but this episode was either written or directed by Mickey Dolenz.
Peter is just sitting in a chair watching tv
He's still coming back from his dream.
😭😭😭😭😭😭he's gone🤣
0:13 pink floyd the wall
it's the beatles good mourning good mourning
I agree
1:49 Who The Fuck Is That Peter Tork?
Yes. He's hypnotized by the TV
One of the best comedies… however ironically these guys eventually got bored because they were not actually playing the instruments, they were told that their act was to be based upon comedy not actual musicians… eventually they protested and the show ended.
Peter was a guitarist… but was not allowed to play his own music.
Peter Mike and Micky all played guitar. Peter was a classically trained musician who played several instruments
Davy Jones also had experience playing drums. But they didn't want him on the drum kit because of his short stature, as he wouldn't be as visible. And yes, Peter and Mike were already both accomplished musicians. In fact, Peter was very good friends with Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills & Nash), who recommended him for the part on the show (the producers originally wanted Stephen Stills for the part!)
You want to know what the TV Guide reporter did? He/she judged Walter Koening by outward appearance, rather than by what's in his heart. The TV Guide reporter has said that, Walter Koening looks just like Davy Jones. Walter Koening is the Russian actor who played as Mr. Checkhov from the original 'Star Trek' Sci-fi series. The big difference is: Walter Koening's marital status is different, compared to Davy Jones' marital status. You know very well that, Walter Koening outlived Davy Jones; is what's also what's the difference. It's just like looking at a doppelganger, is what this case really is. ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 💗 💘 ❤️
I don't know what you're ranting about but Koenig was indeed cast In Star Trek Season 2 directly because of the success of the Monkees and Davy Jones in particular. It was thought he would draw younger female viewers to the show. In his first few episodes he wore a really bad wig until his real hair grew a bit longer
Not the full episode.
Wow
It's like a men's version of Azumanga Daioh 😅😅
Which one is Osaka?
Titled Michaelangeo his family.

Final Episode diected by Micky.
