OOPS! Dead spaced at the end should be fixed soon. Just waiting for UA-cam to update the video. Not sure what happened there!
I thought there was going to be a stinger or you where going to talk for 24 mins
This blend sits at the very top for me, along with Capstan Blue, Orlik Golden Sliced, G.L. Pease Union Square and G&H Brown Flake Unscented. Each of them has a subtle difference which makes it all the more interesting.
Really enjoy that stuff! In fact, I enjoy just about everything in the HH line. Nice video!
I can concur with this statement. Have found a HH line blend I don't like, but Old Dark Fired is taaaaasty.
I’m so loyal I still watched the last 14 minutes
😂 😂 😂
😳😳😳😳😳😳😜
Longest first impressions yet!
😶
Omg! I’ve been waiting for this video forever!
I just smoked the MacBaren HH Pure Virginia and the Samuel Gawith Full Virgia Flake back to back. I have to say I prefer the MacBaren over the Samuel Gawith.
I am a American and I never had a bad tin from MAC BAREN ❤
that last part was dark, very dark
Thank You Bradley , very interesting, have a nice and warm spring week ahead, Paul
Same to you!
Glad to see you're enjoying it Bradley - it's much more obtainable than FVF for sure. It'll be interesting to see the full review. Smoke it well
I tried this for the first time probably right about when you were. Took it camping in early spring. It's delightful.
Enjoyed the video immensely. When I smoked a tin of it over a year ago, I got the same things you described. Where we differ is that I don't like most straight Virginias. This blend is absolutely top-notch, for sure, but what came through for me almost entirely was the bready, yeasty thing, which is the quality I DON'T like in Virginia tobacco. What I do like very much is a tea taste one doesn't find much anymore. Sutliff Virginia Slices has it, however, and I'd love to have your impression of that blend.
I'm finding that stoving or DGTing helps this blend a lot when it's young.
Great vid Bradley. Thanks a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice! I am really looking foreward to the review! I started pipe smoking again and currently I try to figure out what I like and what not. Most of the time I use your videos to find out what I should try out next. Currently I have some SG Best Brown, SG Nr 4, Nightcap and an aromatic (Dannemann Original) in my rotation. But I also have like 6 tins waiting because your reviews sounded so delicious. Keep up the great work!
Sounds like you have some good blends to look forward to!
smoked a bowl of my homegrown bucak bright virginia while watching and it was really good. minimal burnt aftertaste with the bright grassy virginias, it seems.
good to hear aitch aitch pronounced properly ( and not haytch haytch )
i love the longer first impression video.
Good to know!
You need to try Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake and Astley’s 44 if you like straight Virginia.
Don't tell Bradley about Wessex Campaign Dark Flake. It will just be even harder to get. LOL.
What are your thoughts on the two blends?
I have a few tins that are 7+ years old…smoked some at 5 years old and still can’t get into it. It just doesn’t hit the spot like Escudo, or a few other sweeter Virginia’s. I wonder if they are using lower leaves for this blend with less sugar content? My flakes still haven’t developed any plume.
Hi Bradley
What an amazing first impression
Thanks you for all informative stuff.
Between Capstan Navy cut and this tobacco, which one would you recommend to an amateur smoker who wants to experience straight virginia for the first time? I watched your review on capstan and you mentioned that it was in the middle of bright and dark version of virginias.
Thanks so much in advance.
I don't think you could go wrong either way!
Hey Bradley, what blend or blends do you think are totally overrated? Ones that got a lot of attention, but you thought were just.....meh. Kind of like the emperor's new cloths of tobacco. I'll through myself under the bus with one now: Haunted Bookshop. A pretty good burley blend, but just pretty good for all the talk it got. A very subjective question but what the hell.
What happened to the Peterson pipe lighter?
Nice... I have one of these tins unopened for probably a year or two... I guess maybe it's time to try it out!
Go for it!
Had some for the first time yesterday. Very tasty, straight VA. I put it up there next to Peterson Flake.
Just a little question Bradley. How often does the average pipe smoker smoke a pipe? I'm a late starter at 50 years but I have many memories of my good old Dad smoking his pipes and I decided to refurbish them and join the great pipe fraternity. Another question since I'm on a roll. Do you have issues with discolouration / coating of your tongue? I maintain a good oral hygiene but I find I have a sweet tasting/tingling feeling on my tongue for hours after smoking a bowl. There are so many questions I have so get ready....
I don't know what the average is really. Some people only have a pipe once a week, others several times a day. I've never noticed any discoloration or anything like that. Are you smoking heavy aromatics with lots of topping added? That might explain it. Thanks for watching!
I am wondering what happened to the pipes you had on your videos previously such as the Ashton, Savinelli punto oro, and the Japanese reverse calabash pipes. Have they compared to the castello’s and old dunhills? It would be nice if you did a video on your history with pipes in general or opinions on those pipes you had.
I've still got them all and still smoke them!
you use a BIC? you rebel.
I love your reviews I'm a tobacconist at a LARGE cigar/pipe tobacco shop in western WA.
I look to your reviews for tasting notes on pipe tobaccos that I have not tried yet.
Thank you so much for your content.
I know, it's shocking! ;-)
Thanks so much for watching!
Beat straight Virginia 🔥🥰😋🥳✌️
You might want to reupload this.
Agreed. Last 14 minutes is nothing but silent black.
I might be wrong in here . Some youtubers do that on purpose , for YT algorithm & other ad stuff that I don't understand . some fill it with nature scenes other as you've seen in here just a blank void . It was a 12 min mark nowadays they are aiming for 24 min . As I mentioned before I might be wrong but I have seen that bank ending many times with many youtubers
@@hom9016 - It was unintentional! I'm not sure what happened, but this video should update with a trimmed down version soon!
I have to say I don't like the current dim background of Stuff 'n Things Studios - - the lack of light means little color showing up. Formerly I could see the warm red of the bricks and the colors of the various pictures on the wall. Hope you'll go back to the old lighting configuration.
I told you it was fantastic. 😊 Just wait a year 😊
I went and checked and looks like you’ve done five HH blends so far and this will be your sixth:
HH Latakia flake
HH Bold Kentucky
HH Acadian Perique
HH Old Dark Fired
HH Vintage Syrian
Thanks!
I watched all the way to the 24 minute mark.
This stuff is delicious. Not sure which is my favorite Virginia. This or Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake.
When FVF is burning right and I'm in the mood for it, it wins the battle for me. But it's a pain to prepare and dry, whereas HH Pure Virginia is always a rock solid smoke.
@@gregnar Agreed. FVF doesn’t always want to play along. I always forget to prepare it far enough ahead of time. 😁
🤔🇺🇲
Let’s not wear-out the word “apotheosis” in your review videos ... maybe mix in an occasional “the epitome” or “the quintessential” ... high-quality words lose their impact when used too frequently :). Northern New Jersey loves you (and Diamond, as she is the apotheosis of fiancés) :)
You do realize that now I'm just going to use it more? ;-)
