- So take this in a good way. Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia flake has the subtle taste of chewing on a piece of grass. Like we used to do when we were kids in the summer. A lazy day in the shade of a tree, with a long stalk of wild grass in our teeth. Kinda like that. Pure Virginia is a perfect fold and stuff flake, lights well and burns evenly. A mellow consistent smoke without a lot of complex flavors and only mild nicotine. Slightly sweet, and leaves the after-impression in the mouth of having chewed a piece of Wonder Bread. Simple, easy - another great all-day smoke.

Another excellent review David. Your tasting notes are refreshingly honest and straightforward...an "everyman's/everywoman's" take on flavor, without all the flowery descriptions that I can't seem to taste in tobaccos described by other reviewers. We all develop likes and dislikes, but they're difficult to communicate to others; you do a good job of sharing your own discoveries as this hobby opens up to you, and you keep it light and congenial...a great fellowship. Thanks for the entertaining review!
I really enjoyed this review. You have taken the time to tell a story as a means to review the blend and make it very relatable. I have a tin of PV and, like all other HH Flakes, I love it. I'm not much for pure VA's, as I prefer a nice solid English or American blend with the balance of Latakia and/or KY tabac. But PV is refreshing, much like Capstan Blue. It just shakes the heavier notes of the blends that I've acclimated my tongue towards. Its a great palate cleanser of sorts that resets your mind and expectations for the next pipe you're going to enjoy.

So glad you liked the review! I know what you mean about the palate cleanser. I think it was Ben (the Artful Codger) who started me thinking about that. Whenever the complex Englishes begin to taste flat, then I know I need to clear my taste buds!

You’re description of the MB reminds me exactly of my own experience just recently with MB Vanilla flake. The tin note is a pretty strong vanilla and Virginia one, but the smoke is a pretty mild non-descript non-complex Virginia tobacco taste. However, I still like it…

Amazing interesting and understandable because your explanations of the meanings of the words you use to describe taste of tobacco thanks a lot, like « grassy » etc. Thanks to that we can imagine the tobacco and compare with our own experience. Thank you !
Thanks for the feedback! I kind of sit when I'm with my pipe and try to think how I would describe the taste and feel if had never heard any other reviews. I know my vocabulary is unconventional - but at least its original! LOL
The Virtual Pipe Club id say that what is not conventional is that you explain the vocabulary you use that I hear from oser pipe UA-camrs (so I think your vocabulary is conventional just not what you do with it); and that’s what I like ! Your welcome I think it’s good to anyone to have different feedbacks good or bad to have an idea of what others (is) receive from you. Have a nice pipe !

My favorite of straight virginias
Hey David, another nice review. HH Virginia is one of my top 5 favorites. Right now I smoke the Amphora Virginia and I would say, thats the little brother of the HH flake. Inexpensive and a great smooth every day smoke.See you later - in the clubhouse✌🏼

Jeff thank you so much! So far I've really enjoyed all the HH blends I've tried. If you like the mellowness of Virginias, this one is great right out of the tin. In contrast, I think the Mac Baren Virginia #1 needs a little aging first.
Everything was perfect. I would add, maybe, tin note and room note based on your partner opinion.

Hi Andrea - thanks for the kind words and thank you for subscribing. I haven't had a chance to try Gawith's FVF yet - Gawith blends are hard to come by in the US, and they seem to sell out fast. :-(
