Jocko, what a great guest. Thank you! Mr. McCoy, I will order your book as soon as I'm done listening to the podcast. My upbringing was truly brutal and out of my control. You are helping more people than you realize. The no bullshit honesty is bitter sweet.
4:00:00 to 4:05:45 is life changing advice from Braxton's Glass Factory book, immensely powerful book. "Slay your dragons, or they will consume you." God bless you both Braxton and Jocko and thank you for sharing your stories.
If there's ever a guy that I could relate to it's this guest, other than having never served in the military I have so much in common with this guy and he is an awesome inspiration
Echo was on the money at the end. I haven’t been through even a fraction of what Braxton has been through but somehow he was very relatable. I felt that very early on the podcast. Such a down to earth, humble guy with an incredible story. This one was great
Thank you. This was a powerful podcast. I did 3 tours in Iraq with the 1rst Cav as a Cavalry Scout. A lot of what he said hit home in a big way. I lost a lot of friends, had friends maimed for life and barely made it alive myself. Important lessons learned and inspiring
My unit had the honor of serving next to 1-12 Cav in Baqubah. We came in there full of arrogance thinking we were there to just do someone else’s job again by clearing their AO. We quickly found out otherwise. We were humbled the first day. Nothing but respect for those tough sob’s from 1-12. Outside of my unit 5-20 Inf, I respect those men the most.
only seeing the title, i know this is one of the most important videos ever. Not only for soldiers or only for americans but for everyone who still suffers from his duties he had to go through.
I felt this podcast more than any other thus far. It's an incredible story and I am honored to have been able to hear it. I am buying the book. Thank you both.
This was the hardest Jocko podcast to ever listen to. I reminds me of my failures although did not go through nearly what Braxton went through. Braxton is a talented writer and total true HERO. In every sense of the word.
I have never related to a guest on your podcast more. Going through a similar situation with my grandfather as well and I needed to hear how selfish I am being. Hooyah folks, keep on keeping on.
Holy shit that MSG at 2:45:00ish, that rant was the most army thing I’ve ever heard since being out! It had me laughing in Tears! Loved it, what a good guy he was
The part where the gate guards stopped them when he was wounded reminds me of my time in Baghdad. We got hit bad with an ied. Most of my platoon was wounded. Just me and a few other guys were completely unwounded. We're hauling ass through fob Falcon to the brigade aid station and a major stops us for exceeding the fob speed limit. My squad leader straight let him have it. He was wounded through the throat himself and he was screaming to get f*ck out of our way 🙌
2:18:35 Mental game changer. "How did I do that?... No amount of self gratification could carry me through it. My own ego was not enough..." His respect for someone ELSE drove him to a major accomplishment of his own that no one else could claim. The importance I see in that is the self awareness it takes to know that not everyone can just hype themselves up. Not everyone is driven by or for themselves. That's not how individuality works.
This one is relatable in many ways. I pissed away a lot of good years with alcohol after the military that I can't get back. I've been on a better path the past few years and stories like this are a good reminder to not let your guard down.
Shoot. The description of the stories that didn't really happen hit home. I did/had the EXACT same experience in Afghanistan...Thanks Braxton and Jocko, that was therapeutic. This is why I listen to this podcast.
Great podcast, and great chemistry among the three of them. Whenever Echo Charles can't be there in the future, Jocko needs to have Braxton come in and sub.
Thank you so much Braxton that you share you story so honest with us. That requires tons of courage to be that open about your dark moments. That was a tough one. So happy for you that you found a way to go on. This is a kind of story that helps me to keep going in weak moments of my life.
Ive listened to a ton of jockos podcast and he has a lot of really cool SF guys on which are awesome. That being said this is one of my favorites for sure.
God bless you Braxton I cannot even count the number of times I got goosebumps listening to this podcast. You definitely are a word genius. I’m looking forward to reading your book.
Almost can't bare to listen to the medical stuff he went thru holy shit!! Made the hair on my arms stand up when he explained putting the rods in.. but feel I owe the man the respect of listening to every detail of what he went thru!! Fucking hero!! God bless him and keep him.

I get so much from hearing what our soldiers have had to experience over the last 20 years. The life and death they have had to see everyday while on deployment makes me enjoy life and people in in this country more. We only have so much time on this planet. Stop letting the little things ruin your day. We are very fortunate to be Americans. Live your life.
Wtf is a genuine American? I’d seriously like to know. You can appreciate someone without bootlicking the profession/lifestyle they happen to be a part of. Conflating “Americanness” with cops & soldiers is as flawed a mindset as it gets. Jocko and this dude are no more American than countless others from different walks of life, including ppl who drastically differ from them both ideologically and politically.

Unfortunately I was rejected for service because of getting caught with 1/2 a joint of weed as a teenager. This! I have had to do this a whole lot, and it sucks as I really want the right guys to get what they deserve to earn. Shipping costs from US to UK are also far too prohibitive for me also. I do not like reading on screen as much as on paper, as digi downloads are not really good for my eyes. Much love Jordan. Ken.

second,
america IS very identitarian even if it's not "racist",
the whole "people prefixing their american identities with "black" "white" "asian" is a reflection of the very materialistic concepts we impose everyday towards other things:
