Informative and thorough, your work deserves more attention. When I did this job on a 2011 Cruze, I didn't take the cat out. It was enough just to remove the bolt on the bracket holding it to the engine, that allowed enough wiggle to pop it off the downpipe. I like how you kept the budget down by only replacing the parts that were broken. If your fixing your car on a budget or just getting in to doing your own auto work, keep in mind that OEM parts are expensive and not always necessary. Sometimes, they're not even the best quality option. Most of the time, a third party option from Korea or China will do the job just fine. This does not apply to the cheapest knockoff of the most complicated engine parts, but generally: if it's on Rock Auto or being sold at NAPA, it will be good enough to last until you upgrade your ride. I've ran multiple third-party water pumps, belts, coils, and even engine bearings for 5+ years, until I have sold the car. But use this guy to tell you how to install it.
Thanks for the video! I got as far as just having the rear coolant line and the rear oil drain bolt left and just couldnt get to them. Yours is the first video I've seen where the catalytic converter was removed and that really opens things up. Thanks!

Thanks @Alex for the great video. I have a coolant leak from a car very similar to this, coming from one of the lines attached to the turbo. My mechanic told me that it's best to replace the lines as well as the turbo itself just to make sure that the leak is fixed. Do you think it's necessary to replace the turbo as well? I want to see whether I can save some bucks by using the same turbo. Thanks again.
You can get away with out replacing it especially if it’s metal gasket but if you can I recommend replacing it so you won’t have to do the work over again if it leaks
I certainly could have used these on an intake i installed last week. The job has been a little bit of a nightmare. The car had 7 codes. I had to change intake manifold, valve cover, pcv bypass, map sensor, all vacuum tubes. I got rid of all but one code P2261. I would have to remove the intake manifold again, ugg
That E10, the 'E' stands for "External" and it's a torx, more accurately, an External Torx. Amazon has some affordable sets of Torx, and E-Torx sets for under $20.
Thank you very much for that awesome video. It made this repair much easier for me. I do have one question though, what brand of parts did you use?? I used Zonfant, which I bought from Amazon. About 1 month after i did the repair one of the coolant lines on the turbo is leaking due to a faulty part. So Im going to take it all back apart and replace it again. Im not very impressed with the Zonfant brand. Is GM Parts the best for this, or am I just paying more for the name? Any info. you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brian
Alex is there a way to see where that leak came from near the the turbo by visual inspection? I know it was covered by the heat shield. I had my coolant reservoir replaced because it was a leak and 2 hoses because of coolant damage because the hose was soft. The shop did the work. Put pressure through the system before to check for leaks and and after when the work was done to check for leaks. I left and 9 days later same issue. Come to find out there was a secondary leak from rusted pipes from coolant line going to the turbo. In your opinion if you did the work on the reservoir and 2 hoses wouldn't you check other lines leading from or associated with the coolant just to make sure there isnt any issues so you might want to inform the customer? Thanks. Oh I have a 2012 Chevy Cruz Eco with 116k miles.
They definitely should’ve looked over the whole cooling system for you for potential future failures,I don’t see why not it benefits both you and the shop if they find something like a rusted coolant parts
I just replaced the coolant reservoir on a 2012 Cruze a few months ago. It was definitely cracked and leaking. Now it's back in our shop, came in after overheating. Coolant was low. I filled it and pressure tested again. No leaks, no pressure drop. Sat on the lift under pressure for 30 minutes before I got drips. If you pull the tube the leak goes away. Not an obvious leak and sometimes doesn't leak depending on how it's positioned. Just poor design by GM.
If there was any rusted coolant lines I would most definitely let the customer know . You can easily see rust on the outer lines but I do know sometimes the outer lines will look fine and it will rust from the inside out that you can’t really detect. Thanks for watching buddy
Great video 🙏🏽. I just have one question. When installing the turbo and coolant lines you removed with the 17 mm or Vice grip. Did you have a problem with the coolant line on the left reaching the hole? For some reason that coolant line for me won’t reach any tips you can give me I am ordering the new coolant line hopefully it works better.
Hey Alex, yeah I’m talking about the rubber hose the last coolant line. For some reason when I put the turbo back. I was unable to plug that coolant bolt in it’s hole. I ordered a new coolant line. Hopefully it works 🤦🏻♂️. I might try to take out the cat and do it from under

Where you able to replace the hose without the full tear down?
Great video. I always try to guess the nut or bolt Size too! 😂😂😂
It’s fun and helps pass the time lol
Great video, very helpful!
My pleasure
I've changed a bunch of these they are known for cracking as far as the turbos
Thanks @Alex for the great video. I have a coolant leak from a car very similar to this, coming from one of the lines attached to the turbo. My mechanic told me that it's best to replace the lines as well as the turbo itself just to make sure that the leak is fixed. Do you think it's necessary to replace the turbo as well? I want to see whether I can save some bucks by using the same turbo. Thanks again.
Thank you, I have never had a car with a turbo, I may one day and just wanted to see what was involved.
@user-sp7kt7vw7w this isn't the turbo car you want I promise. You don't even know ow it's there.
The torque 45s on mine all stripped. Used a brand new bit the correct size and everything. All stripped. It's getting towed to a shop.
Is there a need to replace the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter
You can get away with out replacing it especially if it’s metal gasket but if you can I recommend replacing it so you won’t have to do the work over again if it leaks

Thank you for your reply. Your videos are very easy to follow. Very much appreciated.
@@davidkrysuik2325 my pleasure thanks for your support
If there were some hair around it you could find them holes better. 🤣 I love the channel!
😂🤣😂 that’s when I switch over to the love Dr 😉
Thx Alex for this video and ur patient, how much it cost to fix turbo on Chevy Cruz 2012?
Thanks for watching buddy. If I remember correctly I think it was between 300$ to 500$
I certainly could have used these on an intake i installed last week. The job has been a little bit of a nightmare. The car had 7 codes. I had to change intake manifold, valve cover, pcv bypass, map sensor, all vacuum tubes. I got rid of all but one code P2261. I would have to remove the intake manifold again, ugg
I think the video was great thanks brother.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for showing this!
Thanks for watching
Did you make a video on how to fix the broken stud on the cat?
Thank great walk through
My pleasure buddy thanks for watching
Great video! How many hours would you charge for replacing these cooling lines under the turbo?
Many thanks!
Could there be pressure in the cooling system due to the turbine even though the engine head is good
Great job
Do you have a video of replacing the bolts on the catalytic converter?
No sorry I should have showed that
Thank you for the video.
Did you ever made a video for the bolt for the cat
No I didn’t I will next chance I get
Alex is there a way to see where that leak came from near the the turbo by visual inspection?
Or any other problem,at my shop I provide free inspections
How do you get the bottom bolt out of the manifold? Not see one video yet to show this.
Are you talking about the one that broke
Good video sir.
Hey there I used the 17mm,are you talking about the rubber hose
I’m glad you enjoyed it
Hey Alex, yeah I’m talking about the rubber hose the last coolant line. For some reason when I put the turbo back. I was unable to plug that coolant bolt in it’s hole. I ordered a new coolant line. Hopefully it works 🤦🏻♂️. I might try to take out the cat and do it from under
Oh okay I see you didn’t Install it on the turbo before. Setting the turbo in place 🫡 glad I just saw that tip
@@sebastianvargas525 let me know how it turns out
I play the guess game on nuts and bolts,
Years ago... I was 90% right, today ... lucky at 50% correct,
What is the GM part number for the exhaust studs and nuts?
I’m not sure sorry
Love it
@AlexTheCarDoctor - please give me a link to find the best exhaust header studs and nuts. It seems there all kinds of them and none of them appear remotely like tge ones on our vehicles.
Your wife is an ANGEL, and how lucky you are, and a picture of the child would be great.
And of course thank you so much. Love your brother Freddy
My step daughters Cruze needs just what you showed. You both are angels, salt of the earth.
Thanks for your kind words. I recommend the dealership for those studs or you can try the brand ARP.she is almost 3 now and is a handful
