    A couple of minor things:
    1. With regard to the transom copies, perhaps some discussion of the number so that there is little to no pixelation (staggered edges) and that the shadow should exceed the art board boundaries.
    2. When masking, please make it clear to keep the rectangle selected AND the underlying object (with the transform).
    This is great, Justin!

    *FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE SELECTING THE SHADOW AFTER DRAWING THE RECTANGLE:* What you need to do is get the Selection Tool (shortcut is V) and then hold SHIFT before & while you left click on the shadow. It won't seem like you've selected anything, but you did. At times you may need to left click twice. Then just right click and make clipping mask. If the shadow comes in front of your letter then just right click and send backwards so that it's behind the letter. Took me a few minutes to figure this out. Just thought i'd share this for people who are stuck on this part.

    This is good, thank you! Also, I've found a way how to skip out the step with copying a different couloured object on top of your shadow - you can just add a new fill on top of that shadow effect, that's how you'll have it “the graphic style-ready” way.

    Great method Justin. You could copy the background shape and Ctrl + Shift + V in place at the end, remove color and apply clipping mask (just to prevent any imperfection with the final clipping). Anyway, nice video - I will be using this method from now on. Better than using the Pen tool which I have actually been doing.

    I can't get the 'Make Clipping Mask' part to work, and I think it's becuase I already have a rectangle with a color fill serving as the background, how did you get your green background? This is only a problem since I want to save as an svg, so the stuff outside the canvas is saving as well.

      To fix this, I expanded the text to an object (not sure if this is necessary or not) but in the transform box, instead of changing the horizontal and vertical MOVE to .5 each, I lowered them to .01 and just messed around with the number of copies. This smoothed everything out for me.

    I'm learning to use Illustrator, and found your tutorial really useful. Followed all the steps easily. Unfortunately, I am having an issue getting rid of the excess beyond the bounds of the artboard. I'm getting: "Can't make clipping mask. The selection must contain more than one object". Any ideas?
    Also found that the shadow disappears when saving as a svg. Any ideas on that?
    Look forward to reading your response.

    • @DeadLoon
      @DeadLoon 9 років тому

      I was able to get rid of the excess shadow by using an opacity mask instead of a clipping mask.
      I was also able to preserve the shadow in SVG format by, instead of doing what was shown in the video, I colored the shadow completely black and set its opacity to 20%.

    However, when I follow your steps on several letters, a weird jagged edge is visible from some letters with sharp edges. Do you have an alternative to what you have shown?

    • @laksemand
      @laksemand 10 років тому

      ***** Thank you for your answer. I am really impressed with your work and the fact that you took time to answer me.
      However, I discovered another technique where I blend two shapes that are offset. Through this method I can minimize the jagged edges by lowering the specified distance. Takes its toll on the computer, though.
