My first rig was a ‘78 K100. And now 45yrs later I’m retired. I love watching Steve do it old school. No fridge, no microwave, no air fryers or coffee makers. Orwell isn’t just a truck. It’s a Time Machine that takes me back to younger, and much harder days. When a good thermos was your prize possession.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Gotta love the scenery one minute your driving through sunny skies 30 munutes later full blown snow storm. Watching the other driver act like they've never driven in snow before. Glad you made it to where you needed to be to unload stay safe Steve.
I love driving in snow, at least for the first hour. Then its starts to get old. Back when I worked in an office they would sometimes close the factory do to snow. I would drive home, grab my skis, and drive an hour to the slopes.
Cracking job in the snow bud, what amazes mw is most of the planet gets snow every year, but the majority of people still can't drive in it, people are stupid!
That would be scary getting stuck up that hill. I been there before in Colorado or Montana and I was like damnit hearing the tires lose traction and I was not happy. I was able to get traction on the side of the road and I was able to get to the top of the hill. My wife was like that's crazy. They ain't clearing the roads good. We managed to get a good parking spot at the truck shop next to the building 😁😁 we was able to connect to the WiFi there. We ended up getting stranded due to bad weather and roads were terrible. The customers were understandable and they were like a few hours away. They was happy seeing us arrive with there belongings.
Had one of these nights recently and so many people just stop. Right in the middle of the road. Had to fit through two tankers on a sheet of ice down hill. Kept the momentum and got home but that stuff ages ya.
For sure. I had to maintain 35 mph or I'd lose speed on those hills and would have been stuck too. They kept passing me on the straights just to slow down before the hills. Aggravating!
Good job Steve considering to don't have a shitload of weight. Northern Arizona can get major snow around Flagstaff. I bet you're glad you have the @GreenAPU on board. Stay safe but i guess you already made it home. $$$ is tight but still hoping to make it to MATS. BTW you have new neighbors. @Truckingtogether recently pulled up stakes in California and are now in Wisconsin. He has a 2009 KW W-900 and because of the CARB act he can't run on his own authority out there.
A lot of the people in Flagstaff that time of the year are tourists there for the skiing ⛷️. Many of them are always in a hurry with their fancy vehicles. 😊. That isn't bad at all. Went through much worse in Rochester, Ny. 😊
wow! real nice scenery! amazing! giant storm on mountain top! I hope it didn't get 2 slick 4 ya out there good buddy! answer: grab diner.. granny crawl'n ... wish I was ready 2 go to MATS ''this'' year!! I hope U'r going 2 do lots of videos! good coaching!
Stay there. Have a great night. Hope you had a great night. It was great speaking with you briefly on James Prettys live chat last night. I know, you've been back for two weeks. This interwebs stuff messes with this old man. Safe travels and God bless. Let's see that last plow make it to the end.
Driving through those small towns in the snow, gives me flash backs to the early days in a b81 mack and later on in a k100 kw long since retired, kind a miss those times but again I can sit at my pc and watch the young folks do while warm and cozy and I'm back out c'mon
Reminds me of driving around the Finger Lakes NY, and I81 north of Syracuse in winter. Take your time you will get there, it just takes about twice as long. Run decent snow tires and all will be good!
The only real gripe I have is that I like seeing the road signs so I can follow where you and Orwell are at any point on the journey with my Rand-McNally.....
Loved this video. Very stressfull driving conditions. You must be a hell of a truck driver. Thank you for making us discover the realities of your job.
Check body shops back home. Sometimes body shops will buy fixer upper cars from a big as car, truck wreck yard in Phoenix az. My buddy used to do that for a backhaul. Plus farm equipment. Flagstaff is pretty high. It can be 95 in Phoenix and only 70 in Flagstaff. Lower elevation is just rock. As you climb it turns to grass and mesquite, then pine trees.
Nice n easy driving Steve, glad there weren't stacks of autobstacles in your way! Been great seeing you all over western side working it as usual but all different scenery and roads. Hope it's been good for the channel so it can be done again at different time of year. Last time in Flagstaff my Chevelle got stuck there - not from snow, the POS 496 I bought from Speed-o-Motive (not motive) lost the mains and was done. Big problem since from NoCal on my way to Pensacola. A challenge to say the least!
I really enjoy this Steve guy and his videos. I ran a cab-over Pete with a 3408 Cat and 325 inch. wheelbase back in the day. Michelon tires will never let you down but I do suggest that you throw a Detroit locker in the rear drive. They are bullet-proof. The only other suggestion I would suggest is that you run your strap through at least 1 hole on your spare tire on your drop deck. You can't fake being a great truck driver and time will speak for its self. Thank you sir it is a pleasure to watch you
Flagtown is beautiful, pine trees, I remember west of Flagstaff at Belmont, it's a pilot now, but I remember when it was just a small ma and pa truck stop with restaurant, across the interstate is the Harley Davidson dealership and the Road house cafe. Great video footage thank you Steve for the video.
Young man. Were you speeding in the snow and didn't want us to see? I saw that little blur box on the phone from the inside camera when you were going down hill. Naughty naughty!
Nice job in the snow on the hill! Always fun! An old over the road driver once told me" I don't mind being out in the snow with the ones that have to be out in it, it's being out there with the ones who don't have to be out there in it that scares me"! Seems to hold true! Yup been retired 3 years, brings back memories, great old school driving Steve!
great job Steve I know it really sucks when you are rolling along and then you need too slow down and you just tap the brakes and the engine quits because the wheels locked up and it can happen in ice and snow and I have had it happen in downtown Chicago when it just starts too rain and the oil on the road gets slicker than snot until it rains enough too wash it off
Hey Steve when you're Flagstaff check out Murphys Diesel and towing they have got some cool toys real beasts working vehicles they have 3 locations good people if you're ever in need of help.
I lived in Ogden most of my school years, raised in the Mohave desert, and lived and worked in Flagstaff , wish I could have done a ride along with you
The funny thing is you had a BNSF MOW train on the Seligman Sub whose equipment could easily double as snow fighting vehicles. And BTW, they don't call Flagstaff the snowiest city in the southwest for nothing.
what about all the people moving from Southern California to Arizona?? they don’t know nothing about driving in snow ?? or people from Phoenix & Tucson spending the weekend in Flag. they don’t know nothing about winter driving either
Is it no one knows about winter driving or is it the way of the world and everything is hurry hurry. We all need to slow down a notch if it’s winter driving or eating garbage food at the drive through we are shorting our lives in a hurry
Yep, see it all the time in Western Washington. I was born in Seattle, but it's obvious who the Cali replants are when it snows! Amusing to watch, though
Love the Vids! I used to drive for TMC Specialized. Did a shitload of Green n Yellow to Sw America. I got to some mechs who I could call to get unloaded and keep going, multiple drops. Usually if ya call ahead they'll hook ya up?
Could have used a locomotive style wheel sander for Orwell's drives on that video. Would help driving up hill, don't know if it would do any good on a down grade though.
My first rig was a ‘78 K100. And now 45yrs later I’m retired. I love watching Steve do it old school. No fridge, no microwave, no air fryers or coffee makers. Orwell isn’t just a truck. All except for his #GreenAPU so he doesn't have to idle all night for heat in the cold or AC on the hot nights.
@@michaelrocker9000 I remember that well. 😂
Gotta love a thermos that stays hot for 2 days
Sure would be a lot more profitable and cheaper to have your own fridge/freezer and microwave though….
Agreed. Old memories relived watching this video driving Marmon flat top 57P. Thanks Steve. Job well done
The camera's, I feel are doing justice to the surrounding landscapes. Pretty remarkable.
44:30 nice old steam engine to your right!!
Great job of driving on snow and ice. I'm not a fan of snow and the only ice I like is the ice in my iced tea.
Good job Orwell. Your experience shines through on hills like that.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Gotta love the scenery one minute your driving through sunny skies 30 munutes later full blown snow storm. Watching the other driver act like they've never driven in snow before. Always cold in flag I got threw flag day before that snow
I’m sure those drivers behind you are glad you’re putting all those tires down in front of them. Making a path.
Flagstaff is officially 6821' Snow is no surprise at that elevation.
my doorstep sits at 7900', I live McMillan Mesa area Flagstaff
hi Steve your a perfect example you dont need to teach an old dog new tricks he already knows then good going driver 👍👍👍👍
I love driving in snow, at least for the first hour. Then its starts to get old. Back when I worked in an office they would sometimes close the factory do to snow. I would drive home, grab my skis, and drive an hour to the slopes.
Your crazy,I hate it now, only when tour a kidd do you love it.not when your a grown up working or like me driving in it
Your a kid sorry 4 the typ o
The fun part is getting out after you lightened your load!
Bob tailing is even more fun 😮😮
Cracking job in the snow bud, what amazes mw is most of the planet gets snow every year, but the majority of people still can't drive in it, people are stupid!
Absolutely beautiful scenery, even in the snow. Excellent driving in the snow also. Keep up the good work.
Look at that traffic from that minor accident! Proper lane management to keep the people moving. SMH
Great driving Steve, very professional!
Great thing to know that. 10 more miles and sunshine and dry roads.
That would be scary getting stuck up that hill. I been there before in Colorado or Montana and I was like damnit hearing the tires lose traction and I was not happy. Last time I was in flagstaff with a load I hit a blizzard and a lot of jackknives on interstate
Flagstaff is a beautiful place. I went there in the spring time. Love your videos. Please keep Orwell rolling. Have a blessed day Sir.
You had me on the edge of my seat going up that hill! Had a lot of faith in your skills driving , but the 4 wheelers not so much..lol.
I do miss the skyline! Thanks for sharing your day!
camras are spot on steve
You are about to wear out that snow plow I used to have the same truck past flag staff twice last week ran 50 to Austin nev
Hello Steve! I heard that phrase. "Grip-tion! Great choice
Had one of these nights recently and so many people just stop. Right in the middle of the road. Had to fit through two tankers on a sheet of ice down hill. Kept the momentum and got home but that stuff ages ya.
It's not fun when a four-wheeler makes you sit and spin! Had it happened in upstate New York.
For sure. I had to maintain 35 mph or I'd lose speed on those hills and would have been stuck too. They kept passing me on the straights just to slow down before the hills. Aggravating!

That CARB act hasn't proven itself so it should be abolished 😮😮😂
The Pucker Factor on that icy hill was pretty high, you did a good job keeping your cool.
People don't know how to drive in winter anymore. Haven't for at least a decade. Seems to be nation wide too.
Doesn't matter what the weather people have no clue how to drive anymore crazy put there
That is some big sky. Awesome views.
I love all you camera angles, love the one over your shoulder and watch the coal burn , great work Steve ,
In case anyone missed it, at 5:49 Steve did indeed perfectly revmatch and float from 8-7 on a grade while unwrapping a cheeseburger. 🔥
Lookin' good Steve! Thanks for putting in a good word for us old guys :)
Hills and intersections are the most important thing when plowing and salting
Good Shit Steve that was some pro level driving right there

FUN CHATTING WITH JAMES LAST NIGHT. I REALLY LIKE HIS MARMON. I DROVE ONE IN THE EARLY 90'S BUT GOT HIT HEAD ON BY DRUNK DRIVER AND THAT TOTALED IT.

I live in a winterland, but I hate driving in snow!
Really nice to see some one driving to the road conditions not just speeding.
No snow play on roadway means no throwing snow balls at Orwell.
love the sound of that B model
