How yacht design has changed over the years. Now she would be a triangle and the LOA and LWL would be almost the same. Looks wise there is no competition, she is fabulous! Please keep showing us yachts like these, just to keep us grp small boat sailors in awe!
Hi David. This is a yacht dreams are made of. A history captured in her lines with a meld of 21st century tech. The interior does speak for itself, literally. The beard looks very distinguished Mr Bond. Absolutely awesome video thanks 😊
What an absolute dream. Thanks David for this extremely thoughtful presentation of a legendary yacht. Never thought I’d get the chance to see you present a J-Class, what a great way to start the day!
Thank you thank you thank you David… I have been watching every video I can find on the J class yachts… they are just so so beautiful and graceful through the water. I’d imagine not overly comfortable at rest compared to the modern “stink pots” but nothing can beat these for tugging the heart strings
This is the ultimate no-compromise sailing yacht in my opinion, to enjoy great sailing in great comfort and luxury! It can't get any better surely! This was an excellent review. Very interesting and informative
I suppose the big compromise is that being designed like an american defender, she isn't really designed for trans atlantic passages; she'd be very wet on deck in a storm with no protection and minimal freeboard. Though, I imagine you could still make it work.
@8:40 The surrounding sounds and general atmosphere is amazing. I like motor yachts, but modern sailing yachts are next level in pure enjoyment and bond with nature.
Stop making me like sailing yachts. :P That interior is absolutely beautiful! The "day bed" at 9:04 should probably be used more often for salons in motor yachts. I really like it.
She is so beautiful. The lines are perfect. One small practical question, when doing an ocean crossing, how are all the breakables stored? I could hear the sound of shattered crystal. If I had the money I would buy her in a heartbeat.
This is my new favorite video on UA-cam. Rainbow is an absolute stunner, and you have done a perfect job demonstrating her unique qualities. Well done!
I’m a carpenter and joiner on various yachts, It’s one of the few industries where your skills are in demand, used and valued. Although the market will never pay me enough to own one it is a pleasure to construct and fit the joinery in one. ❤️ This beauty is still not sold I think? Last I checked the asking price was reduced to €8,750,000.00.
Sailing ….. Hard to Learn and Master, Too much to do and handle…. BUT SEEMS LIKE THE PERFECT WAY TO RELAX AND WATCH THE WORLD GO BY IN SILENCE 👏🏽 Amazing Vessel 🔥🔥🔥🤙🏽
Yes, sailing...if you want to go in one direction you should always point the yacht in a DIFFERENT direction! I must admit though, I'd never seen the fascination in the America's Cup until I filmed this video. Now I'm hooked!
As a New Zealander, we are incredibly proud of our small nations history in the America’s cup, I found the history in the beginning fascinating, thank you.
Cool video. She's is beautifull, a dream afloat, but she doesn't deserve a Plastimo quartz clock... 🤨 And we would have been interested to see the crew accomodation as well.
He he, looking good David 👍 👌. Nice beard. Good looking jacket too. Wonderful video. ...and no, I don't want to skip the history part. It is wonderful to learn about the history and the pedigree of the yacht. And you have such a talent for storytelling. You can really sense the fact that you are so passionate about yachts and yachting. And because you are passionate, you in turn are converting us too. And let me say that we are willing converts. Can't wait for you next video. My regards and best wishes to you and all your team. Ciao.
Dearest David, I was not aware of the connection with the Sopwith! Thank you for that snippet of information. Wishing you all good things. Your videos are such an inspiration to me.
What a beauty! It looked gorgeous, and obviously well maintained since she was built. I actually went to website and was surprised at the asking price. I was expecting a higher price .
I like the sailing yachts a lot more, there's a lot of craftsmanship and planning that goes into the interior.. Most motor yachts just look like a tiny floating apartment
Great story David and a very beautiful J Class with a sumptuous fit out; however just a minor correction, in 1851 the US was no longer a colony; yes, I know poetic licence
I sailed Shamrock 5 in Stormy weather across the English Channel and also crossing the Bay of Biscay heading to Gibraltar. As long as you reefed in on time she behaved quite well. We had a bit of a learning curve up on the foredeck heading into steep seas in the channel as the water would pick us up and push us pack 10 or 15 feet. We pretty quickly got use to coming off slightly and never had this as an issue again. Compared to other yachts I've sailed I'd be quite happy on a J class in rough weather. Having said that you do need to be organized in preparation and teamwork as the forces in question have the potential to overwhelm the crew and equipment.
The plant of showing up at the America's Cup at the helm of this beauty is brilliant, but then everyone will sigh: "Oh no! the annoying guy that won the jackpot"
It appears to be a book titled "The Story of The America's Cup 1851-2000". I am not sure about the author. It seems there have been updated versions of the book (and even older ones) so I don't know if the contents would be the same just with more. It was cool.
I was hoping you were going to mention it was the Aussies who finally broke americas domination of the America’s cup. I remember watching the final race live when I was in high school. And of course the famous video of our PM Hawke just afterwards with his “any boss who sacks a worker for not going to work today is a bum” comment. Good old Bondy. We won’t mention he was a bit of a crook.. What a quality yacht. The craftsmanship is incredible. And another great video. Thanks for covering sail as well as power yachts. This one was a treat. And is that a beard I spot. Very distinguished. Are we going to see a pipe make an appearance anytime soon. 😀
Thanks for watching. I'm keen to learn more about the America's Cup, I've hardly even scratched the surface yet. So many great stories surrounding it. Nice idea about the pipe...I might just do that!
@@Yachtsforsaleblog I know only a little about the 1983 races held in Newport Rhode Island simply because it was Australia who were the challengers and there was a massive amount of hype that really did capture the entire nation. Alan Bond, who was from Western Australia was the person behind the effort providing the money and getting the team together. He was a multi millionaire who made his money originally from property development. The yacht itself was designed by Ben Lexcen and the big surprise was its famous winged keel. A lot of the hype around the whole thing apart from the fact that the US had not been defeated for 132 years, was to do with this as it was kept secret. Every time they lifted the boat out of the water, they kept the keel hidden under a shroud. The deciding race was beamed live from the us and it was on around 7.30 in the morning Sydney time. After the win they crossed live to I think a yacht club in Perth (Hawke was also from WA) to see a champagne soaked PM Bob Hawke sitting on a sofas surrounded by revellers , wearing a cheesy americas cup jacket who then uttered those now famous words. Even now after almost 40 years that footage is dug up and played occasionally. Can’t see Thatcher doing the same. Maybe Boris, I hear he likes his parties. As for any races after that.. wouldn’t know much except I think they now use those incredibly fast cats that do something like 50 knots or more. Oh, Alan Bond was later found guilty of some sort of fraud or similar of about $30million and sentenced to about 1 1/2 years jail in low security. Of course all the money was conveniently in his wife or childrens name so they got to keep it. What was that book you were flicking through in the video. ua-cam.com/video/s8mdHO2_Zo8/v-deo.html
Monohull sailboats usually aren't my type of yacht, but holy moly, that is a stunning ship.
It really is. The interior design is stunning! I felt quite privileged to go out sailing on her.
I felt the same way until I started looking into multihulls sinking from hitting something that monohulls would survive.
J class says it all.
You can’t beat a j class
@@satguy lol.

Scorpios is probably the closest thing built today, conceptually. Definitely not as much of a comfort option outside of racing however.
Maybe the most incredible yacht you featured on this channel.

Your sailing yacht exposés are always my favorites!
Such beauty, and elegance
Probably the best yacht video in the Internet. Amazing quality, as the yacht.
Congrats David and team.

Oh my...I'll need to watch this again. Then again. And again. What lines. And man, what a lot of canvas. Flawless. 😍
So beautiful! The best footage of a J I've ever seen. Will have to watch this over and over... Thank you!
Those J class yachts are so beautiful. Great job on the presentation!
What a stunning yacht. Your video really does it justice. More of this type of content, please.
Thanks so much. Such a beautiful yacht, doing it justice is almost impossible!
One of the most incredible yachts on your channel!! Absolutely blown away
Love the soundtrack when we went below. What a vessel.
The joinery in that interior is stunning!
magnificent....technology and old fashion design together
Your videos tells a beautiful story about the ships. Thank you.
What an incredible yacht the stuff dreams are made of Rainbow has certainly up the bench mark thank you for bringing her to us

The yacht that dreams are made of, beautiful. the lust of my life is still Shenadoah of Sark, but this is a good second. Nice tour thanks.
I never truly desired a sailboat until I saw this video. This is...sublime.

Not even a Euro Millions lotto win would run to keeping that on the water. Utterly beautiful. Thanks David and the team.
The first 4:24 minutes were excellent, as was the remainder of the video.

David, a legendary J class sailing yacht, wow see it go, love sailing, would love this yacht, was born in Southampton on the solent
Yes, wish that all of the yachts were that easy to write about!
What an amazing vessel.
Wow! Gorgeous! Impeccable! Thanks David!
This yacht is just a work of art!!
Fantastic is an understatement.
What a stunning beauty!
I've always wanted to see the interior of a J Yacht. Thank you David.

Congratulations Neville. Perhaps I may get an opportunity to sail on her with you and other fellow Kiwis.
A stunning yacht and so beautiful presented, thank you for sharing. Does anyone by chance know the name of the music played during the interior shots?
God such a beautiful boat.
Great J-class yacht with quite a few technical similarities to the big Black Pearl but with a much more classic appeal...
Does somebody know which song is playing when the interior is shown? (starting arround 8:38)
She's a real beauty. Rather envious of your job sometimes...
Beautiful
I'm saving up for Rainbow II.... it'll be finished in a few months, possibly in time for the Barcelona Cup?!

Haha. I was pretty sure somebody would pick up on that. And yes...it was poetic licence.
What song is playing during the interior walkthrough!?
Beautiful love wood 😅
In love.
Funny to see how buyers of sailing yachts seem very competitive about their yachts and see it as a sport.
Classic American Lines with all the bells and whistles what more could one ask for in a modern J class yacht?
Wonderfully dream
Very good video
How do J-Class yatchs perform at heavy weather and rough seas, as in a southern ocean passage?
I sailed Shamrock 5 in Stormy weather across the English Channel and also crossing the Bay of Biscay heading to Gibraltar.

I love any sailing boat ⛵ that can cruise along in light winds as if it's under motor.
Wonderful video! Keep the beard!!!!!

As a swede; my dream J-class yacht is obviously Svea. This is a good second, though!
David, What happened to Wider Yachts.....It seems we don t see any new yachts from them ..
sorry i just saw the video in witch you answered my question
Wow.
What book is the narrator reading on the table?
It appears to be a book titled "The Story of The America's Cup 1851-2000". I am not sure about the author. It seems there have been updated versions of the book (and even older ones) so I don't know if the contents would be the same just with more. It was cool.

No portholes below deck? That’s creepy.

I have a model of the 'Endeavour" for sale with a Tim Thompson book, full of illustrations. Willing to ship it anywhere in the world
Are you interested in buying?
