J - CLASS is a tribute to the purest form of design and racing. Today we have faster and more seaworthy boats, but as far as aesthetical appeal and the most beautiful lines ever, there is nothing like it. The sum of human achievement of art on water.
I don't know about seaworthy. The British challengers for the America' s Cup used to be sailed across the Atlantic with a ketch rig. They would then be changed back to the sloop configuration on arrival for the challenge so these boats were capable of taking more or less anything the sea could throw at them. I would not like to attempt it with a 'foiler' !
I fell in love with the J class boats ~25 years ago... and my passion isn't about to fade at all!!! With their pure classic and noble lines, these ships are beautifull as they are real maritime and historical treasures. I hope to see one of these beauty fighting against the Bluenose or a modern "plastic" racing sailboat.
These J Class "inspire" and lift the soul. That is a gift. Classic yachts can achieve this - If you like these J Class you should check out the 15 metre class as well I think you will like them.
For the person who would like to race a model J Class...go to the American Model Yacht Association and look at the scaled down version. Length approx. 81/2 ft in length with a 10ft mast. Almost like sailing a real yacht and fun!
The J-Class are larger-than-life creations. Truly astonishing to see 5 of these Leviathans thundering to windward. You can see the dramatic below-waterline shapes very well in some aerial shots. They were very... attractively biological, emulating the faster sea animals. I've sailed on a number of pretty awesome sailboats, but a I've wanted to sail on a J-boat even before any were in sailing condition. It's just mind-blowing to see a fleet of beautifully restored and/or newly built J Class yachts, and see them actually racing. Just epic, and a remarkable achievement in engineering, materials science, aero- and hydrodynamics, and no shortage of math. And £ot$ of ¢a$h...
The former owner of Endeavour has expressed some resentment to how the class rules where changed to allow for non-traditional aluminium decks and hulls, carbon fibre masts etc.
The night before xmas eve some years ago we had morred up in a bay in Nevis with the intention of sailing up to antigua the next day for xmas. I got up early and there was the best xmas present i could have had. Endevour was moored approx 200 metres from us. The were just the two of us in the bay. What a sight fabulous!!
A simply fantastic sight but my oh my, when Ranger came off that wave and buried her bow I couldn't help but think of what might have happened if any part of the rigging had given way. Carbon fibre or no, there is a lot of weight up there.
in order to reduce fatigue and stress, modern sails have strands of carbon fibre, kevlar, and other very light and strong material running through them

I'll take a plumb stem ahead of these any day....for both aesthetics and function.

You said it perfectly. The elegant simplicity of her silhouette has never been bettered.
The most beautiful yachts ever built in any decade in any century. Long may they live and bring joy to many generations to come.

Wow. This is possibly the most esthetically pleasing sailing I've ever seen
To this day these ladies still have the loveliest lines.
The most graceful lines to ever grace the waves.
It is hard to imagine anything that we create today more beautiful than this technology from the past.

There isn't a more beautiful sight than seeing those J class yachts
Yes, this is why we need rich people. I have to say given the money, I wouldn't swap my one for anything:)
Magnificent, elegant and pure !

Nice but where are the tips from a shipwright?!

Holy Cow!Monster sailboats. Just Beautiful!
Way to Go Ken, thanks for what you do!
Beautiful sport. Beautiful video.

What is the average length of the J Class boats?
Larry Slemp As I recall 12 meters !
About 125 ft.
Just remember spinakers are not original but added to the class :-P
STUNNING

Einfach nur Genial...Fantastisch
Un vídeo impresionante con semejantes veleros.
That music is awefull
what titans!
Why do they have grey sails instead of white sails? just curious

Beautiful, and sailboats racing didn't become a spectators sport until they broke 30 knots. ..
beautiful boats.
Stunning.
Yeh but you and Dennis Connors were too scared to race New Zealand's J - class ,
beast of their kind
Love it when those big pregnant whimper sails get deployed. Power boats start having difficulties keeping up.
Video for ADHD-sufferers: no clips lasting longer than 2 seconds thereby completely missing the beauty of sailing.
Its Buk èt.... ( tv show )
me ha gustado mucho
Every thumbs down has never been on the sea, while in ignorance claim expertise.
fantastic boat competition
Beautiful
This is a dream!
Rich boys having expensive fun with their toys!
Supporting the marine industries and boatyards.
Get a life and enjoy
reminds me of my dad
your classic toy yacht - albeit extremely larger
Lose this bad music please!!!
Sailors heaven.
DEFI 15 METRES JI MARSEILLE
If only we could convince all the rich old white guys to do this...wait..😂 I bet there was a little more peace in the world during this little event 👍
Nicke nyfiken
Fantastic! But please get rid of that stupid music! :/
Too much jumping around
Better than porn! .. or so I would infer from various reports of such content
Another sailing video for the attention-span-challenged generation: no shot longer than 3 seconds. Pathetic.
