Also ordered seeds from Serbia - they attached a cool stamp to the envelope celebrating British WW1 heroines and they also threw in a few 'gift' packets of seeds. Thanks for mentioning them.
That's great! Now for the wait for them to arrive :D
Loved the “mystery” seed. It was so cute!
I received a sprouting greenhouse for Christmas and am about to start planting seeds for it. This is the perfect info for it. Thanks.
Oooh that sounds fun Jan!! 🙏💚
I like the way you got the sand by sifting. Great idea.
I learned that in the playground sandbox in pre-k lol! We got to play with sifters and spent a lot of time making piles of 'soft sand' 😊It was precious stuff!
I ordered some seeds from them also. The very first thing I did with them is lose them. So can't wait to watch and see what I am missing! :(
Oh no!! What do you mean you lost them?
This is awesome! I haven’t tried seeds, so I’m really looking forward to see how it all goes for you! I love the ones that have a caudex-looking forward to your updates!
Thanks Janie! It will be a while .... :)
I just got my seeds from the same guy in Serbia! I bought them through Etsy, and planted them about two weeks ago. I've got mixed results so far. This is also the first time I've attempted to grow any succulents from seeds, so that's about what I was expecting. I've had 100% failure with any that had the tiny, tiny seeds. Honestly I probably lost half of them getting them in the container. I'm in Austin as well, so we have a similar climate, but also not really.
Oh awesome!! What all did you start?
@@SucsForYou I tried to start some Trichodiadema densum, and a mix of Tylecodon and none of them have come up. But, on the upside seven of the ten Adeniums I planted have come up. I'm looking forward to seeing yours sprout.
I've recently just discovered Lithops and got some seeds. I'm super excited to grow them but I wanted to do a little homework first and found my way here. I love your channel and your collection of plants is amazing! Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Be sure to watch the follow up vid :) ua-cam.com/video/cJMXz1b_M54/v-deo.html
A quick tip. Adding a "drainage layer" to any sort of container actually has the opposite of the intended effect. Since the majority of your soil is finer, the water will cling to the smaller particles instead of flowing down through the courser layer on the bottom. Adding a drainage layer actually raises the perched water table in containers, giving the roots less room to grow into non water-logged soil. A good way to illustrate this is to picture a sponge (the majority of the soil in a pot with finer particles). Putting a sponge on top of some course rocks does not help the water to drain out of the sponge. Instead, it just raises the bottom layer of perched water in the sponge, which can not escape due to capillary action. I would suggest just scrapping the drainage layer and using a well/draining soil to begin with, as you already appear to have done.
Great information ty
I've bought from unusual seeds before, they are legit for sure, person who sells is nice, just be prepared to wait and wait for seeds, they will come! Lol
Hi, I bought some hen and chicks seeds, waiting to receive them in mail. From the look of your baby cactus you know what you are doing so I will be watching to see the growth. Take care😊😊
Good luck Denise and thank you!! I'd love an update 😊
I have some seeds to plant too. I think I will do it today and we can compare videos of the progress. I hope they sprout, I've never planted succulents by seed before.
That will be FUN!! Best of luck to you!! Where are you located?

Hi! I just found your channel and am binge watching! You have inspired me to start a packet of mixed Cactus seed I found at the store. I've only ever grown flowers and veggies from seed, so I have some questions for you...1. When germinating, do I keep them in direct light? If so, about how long each day? 2. After germination and removing cover, how much light do I give them then? Thank you for all the info and videos you are making!
Hi Dee Dee! I'm glad you found me :) You'll need to look into the individual type of plant's light needs for germination but any direct sun outdoors is usually too much. If indoors, it's hard to give them too much sun. I have grow lights and keep them on about 14 hours a day post germination 🙏
Awesome😎
Your cat drinks "dirty" water because the body is craving natural minerals found in dirt, a little wont hurt the cat it is actualy beneficial ♡.
Always excited to plant seeds I can relate how you feel :) however in all honesty I am scared for the Lithops and Conophytum seeds, they really do not like being coved by soil and especially packed like you did after sawing them.
wish you luck with them :) and interested to see updates
Thank you! I was really gentle I promise, but I'll be more careful next time ;)
Sucs For You! Yes, if you have no luck this time, try to just sprinkle them on top of a very sandy or rocky soil and do not cover with extra soil, just mist . Always works for me :)
@@carpediem.9 Notes taken! Thank you!
I covered mine with a smidgen of cacti compost and they came up just fine. I've also tried covering them with a thin layer of fine sand and had similar results. Perhaps the size of the seed will dictate whether they can tolerate being covered?
hahaaa, i'm in Serbia and i was thinking of ordering some succulent seeds, and wanted to research if i would be able to germinate them - and here i see that you ordered seeds from Serbia as well! I'll take it as a sign that i should get them 😂
How did it go with Sinningia by the way? Interested in ordering those seeds as well but they look soooo tinyyyyy
It is a sign! It's a lovely family owned business and they have great seeds and communication. You're lucky to be so close lol!!
I didn't have luck w/ the Sinningia but I have no doubt the seeds weren't viable - it was me. I started them at the wrong time and didn't give them the love they needed for me to grow them here in Houston, Texas where it's usually really hot and humid. I do hope you try though! I will definitely try again someday :) I've had really good luck with the Dioscorea, Lithops, Fenestraria, Anacampseros & Adeniums in my climate 🙏
@@SucsForYou thanks for the detailed reply - I ended up ordering both Dioscorea and Sinningia seeds - I'm excited and hopeful that I don't mess it up!
You live in the same growth zone as I do; do you have issues with humidity adversely affecting small plants (and large ones, like adult Matucana and Copiapoa)?
Yes, I've had a lot of losses due to the heat/humidity combo here :( I have found a fan on through the summer helps quite a bit though!
So how lithops, conophytum seeds are going?
If you wamt to grow them from seeds let me know i will help you about potting mix.
Hi Dear. Thanks for the wonderful videos. I was wondering so you recommend unusual seeds company? I have been scammed too many times and need to find a reliable and honest seed shop. Thanks.
Yes I do recommend them! I need to make an update video, but I've had great luck so far w/ the Lithops and Dioscorea in particular :)
@@SucsForYou Thank you so much. I am a beginner and haven't had so much luck with growing seeds. I would love some more advice and appreciate all your time and knowledge about teaching us how to grow these beautiful plants from seeds.
@@glowgirl7989 Update is ready! ua-cam.com/video/cJMXz1b_M54/v-deo.html
@@SucsForYou How often do you water them now please? Do you let the soil dry between watering? Thanks for all the info. Love your channel.
I purchased some of the same seeds from the seller. The Dioscorea elephantipes seeds sprouted very quickly, but after a month the sinningia canescens seeds still haven't germinated. Please update us soon when they start to sprout!
Oh no! Where are you located? And when did you start the Sinningia - I want to see what I might change for better results :)
@@SucsForYou I'm in New York, so I have then inside under very bright grow lights, in a plastic bag. They've probably been planted for about a month now.
Ok! Thanks for that info - keep me posted!
Do you have new updates?
Hey! What grow light do you use? I’m looking to buy my first and grow some succulents but have no idea where to start with all the misleading reviews etc! Also not sure where to actually put the light... haha
I have 4 grow lights :) You can see them in my Amazon shop here - www.amazon.com/shop/sucsforyou - And here are some videos on what I use - ua-cam.com/play/PLJnSKcJcLrVO0ddCMu0mU2dHVUI--F5sg.html -
Why do you add hot water to your soil and I’ve been waiting videos from you yey
To sterilize the soil :)
Always i like have alot of succulent and cactus . No time 😭
Someday!
Hi I wonder what kind of dirt did u use? Is it just regular succulent mix? Thanks!
My own succulent mix :) But I started another batch w/ Jiffy seed starter mix and it's great so far... and pretty cheap!
Just put the soil in the microwave for about 5 minutes to sterilize soil.
Is the soil ordinary cactus and succulents mix?
My own mix of top soil, Turface, and pumice :) You can use seedling starter mix too! Extra organic materials are okay for seedlings since you want the dirt to stay moist for longer 🙏
@@SucsForYou Thank you! I'm trying out melocactus, lophophora and echeveria ebony seeds soon 🤞
@@SucsForYou so would it work if I use miracle gro potting mix and perlite mixture for the seeds?
@@marjxowisno Miracle Gro has added fertilizers so I don't recommend it.
@@SucsForYou that’s true. I probably just use my coco coir and perlite I have
If my succulent seed starts growing roots but it’s above the soil, what do I do?
It could be upside down...
Sucs For You! Should I put the root in the soil then?
I would 🙏
Sucs For You! Alright, thank you so much!
@@mariajamal2935 Welcome! Good luck!
So... U know when u break up with ur partner and u do sth completely unlike you?
I am known for killing the easiest plants but here I am with 1000 germinated lithops and just planting some sempervivums... I planted 80 conophytums and managed to kill them all...
Oh well...
Also both my mom and my ex caught me with soil being microwaced and now think I am a germophobe and need help....
Que pena. Não são dessas especies
Love your video!
I have some questions, so after the seeds have germinate in to small green thingy, when should i leave the cover open? Or should i just continue to cover them and mist daily for 1 year?
Thanks!! I uncover mine after most are germinated. I also uncover them once a day for an hour or so to help prevent algae/mold.
