Succulent seedling progress with 17 Varieties - 5 & 9 month update (w/ a bonus Lithops surgery!)

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- I started several different types of succulent seeds this year and wanted to show the progress so far plus discuss some lessons I've learned along the way. There's also a pretty tense demo of removing the outer leaf from a Lithops seedling that was having trouble shedding it on its own. We look at: Dioscorea elephantipes, Lithops, Anacampseros, Haworthia limifolia, Ariocarpus fissuratus, Faucaria, Epiphyllum, Dorstenia foetida, along with several other types of cacti.

What fun and so satisfying. You’ve been quite successful after correcting the growing conditions. One can learn new things about plants when you grow them from seed . ~ In order to water only part of a mixed pot of tiny cuttings or seedlings, like your Lithops, I adjust a spray bottle of water to a fine, narrow spray and use it to water only those that need it.
Thank you! Yes a spray bottle will be great!
I love your videos so much.
Thank you!!! 😘💜🌵
I'm really looking forward to the spring when everything starts growing again. I'm going to try growing from leaf cuttings. Failed miserably this year. Great video. Thanks
Keep trying Felicia! Some are a lot easier to prop than others 💚
I bought a dozen bottles with caps like restaurants use for catsup, bbq sauce, etc. that i use for watering all my sucs and cactus. I am able to pin point exactly where the water goes.. Got them from Amazon. Very reasonable.
That is a great idea, thanks for the tip.
This gives me motivation... I’m waiting on Echeveria raindrop seeds from the UK ( I’m in Australia ) which I should have very soon and I’m very keen to get started on this next step in succ propagation . Thanks heaps your a big help
You can do it!
I just visited Cactus King and walked away with a few beauties.
I have a bunch of cactus mix seedlings that I started that look like yours. I am very interested what yours look like now
This is very encouraging, I'm going to be trying some cacti and moonstone froms seeds. I'm excited but nervous. Tom has a beautiful cacti collection.
Yay Janea!! I think you'll do just fine!
Nice video. I have 3 little lithops seedlings that I too planted around February, but line are way smaller. Just repotted them so they get a deeper pot for roots since there's been no growth over the last several months. Hope I haven't stressed them too much
Thanks for the video! I’m attempting all kinds of seeds and not having the best of luck. I’ll keep trying though! Your babies look great! Those tiger jaws 💚💚💚
Thank you Barbara and yes, keep at it! You really should try the Faucaria! They are a ton of fun to watch grow 🙏
I had bad luck with my faucaria 3 packs maybe one made its holding on drowned the first batch. Don't have grow light though great show thanks again
Kill and learn - it's how we do! 😅🙏
Wow, so cute...here, you cant find a real succulents seedling, online shops sells weeds and labeld it succulents,😢 hope to have real succulents seeds in the future...I am so inlove with Succi's....😆😅😍😍😍💞💞
You can try unusualseeds.net - they are great!
Great video as usual! To spot water the lithops have you thought about using a pipette?
That was a clumsy one handed attempt to water lol! I like to use a condiment squirt bottle thing normally :)
May I ask how you were able to fertilize the blooms from your own plants to collect seeds?? I’d love to try collecting seeds but I’m not sure what I need to do with the blooms :)
I bought these seeds from unusualseeds.net 🙏
hi, I have a question about your grow light in this video, can you say how many lumens it has? I have a round 6500k bulb with something like 1950 lumens, and I'm still working it out how close/far from the plants I can put so I'm still researching that
You can check out the specs here: amzn.to/34GRJXS
how old are the lithops that are in the tray? you said the others were 9 months but never mentioned the bigger ones
Those weren't seedlings - just sharing the grow light :)
Your Arios possibly need more humidity. I start mine bagged up under lights.
Thanks! It's super humid here so I kinda don't think so - I did start these under a plastic bag (dry cleaner bag). But I could have removed it too soon as well... Where are you located? Are you seeing more growth in 5 months w/ A. fissuratus than this?
What were the bugs crawling in the pink one's pot?
Springtails - harmless but kind of annoying. They like the damp seedling soil and eat decaying organic matter. Luckily they stay in the pots lol!
oh wow, I saw some in my pot, black super tiny bugs with satin shells, could be the same kind. Though I was scared s***less, so I took everything out to wash and repot them but thanks for the info hahaha
The one tiger jaw is edged with pink. Is that a fluke or a different variety?
It's under grow lights and air conditioning :)
Sorry, how long did yours seeds from unusualseeds take to arrive?
I think it was about 4 weeks maybe longer w/ the holidays :) They're in Serbia and I'm in Texas.
