    I had ordered a Paperlike screen protector (very reluctantly) for my iPad Pro 11 inch, but your video made me realize the tradeoff for screen quality isn’t worth it. I cancelled my order just now and instead ordered the ESR tempered glass protector. Thank you so much Jonathan, this was very helpful.

    As an Artist who mainly uses their iPad for drawing. I was using a tempered glass screen protector for 7 Months after I got my iPad Pro. I didn’t mind drawing on glass when I didn’t have the screen protector then. I can def agree w/ you, the quality display doesn’t get compromised.
    However, the drawing experience on glass or smooth surface isn’t always ideal due to lack of control. The friction matte screen protectors provide gives you much more ease in precise strokes. Yes, the quality is compromised, but you don’t notice it by a lot UNLESS you’re comparing them side by side.
    Only downside to the Matte screen protectors is the wearing down of your pencil tip. I was drawing on tempered glass for about 7 months, and then had to change my Apple pencil tip. Now, currently using a matte screen protector, my tip has worn down much quicker.
    The perfect experience w/ X screen protector becomes subjective at the end of the day. I’ve seen artists who prefer drawing on glass rather than a matte screen protector. I appreciate this video, btw.

    just a tip too, sometimes it's not only the paper feel but also the grip to the pencil that makes your scribbles more accurate to your liking. so if it helps, you can buy a grip for your apple pencil so you have more control. been using ipad pro 11 inch for almost a month now and I've gotten used to the glass screen protector, but the pencil slips sometimes when I write so that's something to consider if you use your ipad for note-taking.

    Interesting. I just switched from ESR tempered glass to a matt screen protector today. I don't expect to do any drawing, and only modest/minimal notes, mostly media consumption. But I did it because of the ridiculous reflections from the tempered glass screen protector made it a pain to use both in the office and metro basically any well lit place. I immediately noticed the degraded image quality (it looks grainier) but much reduced reflections. I'm going to make a decision over the next few days if the trade off is worth it.

    It's great that you note that the clear tempered glass does not take away from the image quality, however you fail to mention the biggest reason to purchase a matte screen protector, and that is REFLECTIONS. Have you even tried taking notes on an ipad with a clear screen protector in a fully lit classroom with lights above your head? its a nightmate. sure if you compare the quality in a dark room of course the image quality would decrease with a matte protector, its inevitable because its SUPPOSED to direct light in different angles to prevent reflections, which ultimately lowers the light quality coming from the screen itself. I think a matte screen benefit is more for reflections than the actual paper feel - regardless its a nice bonus, but the MAIN benefit is lowering reflections dramatically, making it possible to use as a notebook in any room with actual light in it thats not completely dark like you obviously showed in the video (because you know this as well which is why you shot the video of the clear protector in a VERY dim room)...

  • @amirtorhan2762
    @amirtorhan2762 2 роки тому +13

    Had been using a matte screen protector on my 2021 12.9 inch iPad Pro and I just removed it. Like wow, the difference in image quality is just insane.The matte screen protector makes everything grainy, blacks are terrible and text look almost blurry. Before I removed it I didn't think much of this, but now I actually see why some people don't want to use a paper like even if it makes the writing experience nicer.
    I would only recommend matte screen protectors if the only thing you do is notes/drawing, because for everything else it's just not good.

    This is my comparison.
    Tempered Glass Pros and Cons: Clear, can be smudged or needed to be clean, Doesn't work outside for me, when wearing my magnetic shades it doesn't work because its getting dim when using my phone in Landscape and needed to have more brightness than it already is, screen protection(depends really on your screen, so it is mostly dependent on your screen not the protector).
    Matte Screen Protector Pros and Cons: Doesn't like the finish of it or it is not clear, great from outside or with my magnetic shades and it doesn't change anything like dimming the screen, can be taken off in 1 of its edges, does necessarily protect from rough surfaces, it is great for games and drawing(depending on usage).

    Tech armor makes a good matte screen protector that doesn't affect the color/sharpness as much. oh and it's $10 us. Also if you have trouble going through nibs with a matte protector ease up on your pressure a bit

    Best alternative is a magnetically removable matte screen protector

    Very impressive evaluation of the screen protector. I won't be using it for note taking and the side by side video comparison convinced me to not go with the Paperlike product.

    when I draw or write on my iPad Pro without a screen protector it feels so werid like it just makes the apple pencil writing feel werid, idk what to get the paper like or the glass, I feel like the glass will feel the same on my ipad with no screen protector idk yet..

    Better to get a regular protector not paperlike as that leads to scratches

    How if I stack the tempered glass and the paperlike is it good? I aim for safety and the sensation of writing on paper.

    What about using this plastic screen protector over the tempered glass screen protector

    I just installed the paperlike screen protector last night and then took it off after 2 hours. It required much compromise on the display quality that I don't think I can tolerate

    I was wondering if it's any use putting matte on top of the glass protector? I like both :)

      Not recommended. It could compromise the touch sensitivity registration.

    Great video 🤔 does it make the screen shinier or more glossy looking with light reflecting when you're outside?

    Have you tried the little silicone caps you can put on the apple pencil to add friction? I am curious if the work well or affect the performance of the pressure sensitivity when drawing.

    • @darahttb
      @darahttb 2 роки тому +5

      The silicon caps breaks really fast because of the friction. Like the tip gets ripped

    Thank you for your great video. I'm using matt protector because I hate finger prints on the screen but as you told the matt protector makes screen less black. Do you think glass protector still prevent finger prints better than nothing on it?

    I always use mate screen protector, because i read manga and the reflexion in the screen sucks and makes me increase the brightness more than with the mate screen. Anyway i use also use a cheap brand.

    Question: Does the glass protector help with fingerprinting smudging vs. having no screen protector?
