thank you for not endorsing paperlike and giving an honest review!! your video was very informative, great work!
beefy fritos burrito paper,Ike is better
I second this. To hell with paperlike! Overpriced crap.
Ivan Chong nope I have one paperlike is way better.
Hey @Teoh On Tech can you give me a link for that wallpaper it looks sick!
@@murmur578 Paperlike is basically a matte screen that costs more money ahah it just seems you’re wasting extra money for the same quality
Ohhhh my gosh, thank you SO MUCH for having an ipad w the matte screen protector beside an ipad without one. i have been trying to find this kind of comparison forever!
Bro it’s not that hard to find my g😭
Same
This is so true! I just wish he would have done a drawing test on both iPads not just one.
Very big support and a heart for rejecting the offer of paperlike. Everyone these days is just promoting paperlike without thinking about the real consumers' budget. I truly appreciate your work! thanks for making this video though!
i think the idea was if you can afford ipad and the pencil, you should be able to affore this.
Thanks for this honest review. The fact that paperlike tries to sponsor everyone who talks about screenprotectors seems even a bit fishy to me!
Yep, I never trust agressive advertisement.
It's terrible don't buy it because when I got it surprisingly it was already scratched when I got it and yes I bought it from the paperlike store even worse I so excited to get it too
Thank you for not being biased in your review :)
Every iPad tech review is sponsored by paper like, so I was really looking for an unsponsored video. Thanks, man!
I've watched so many videos and this is the first one that was actually helpful for me!! Showing a side by side comparison is what I was looking for instead of watching someone speak for majority of the video. Thank you!!!
Really good review, precisely what I was looking for. A good comparison side by side with and without the matte screen protector. Much appreciated.
I’d love to see this kind of video but with tempered glass. I want to see what you think in terms of how it affects the Apple pencil since I’ve seen so many mixed opinions of the impact of tempered glass vs none.
I was looking for the same thing when it came to comparison. Everyone talks about the matte finish, but not writing it showing a drawing experience on tempered glass.
@@mochakreme Hi mate. I have a glass screen protector and even I keep wondering about the other side of the mountain that is matte screen protector... let me tell you honestly that at first it feels like cracking a tictac on a piece of glass slab (because it is that). But as you get more used to the apps which you are using like good notes and notability... (if you don’t use such apps then you don’t have to think about matte protector, tempered glass is the way). And most importantly the writing apps are customised for the glass pencil interface. It does seem to work with matte but then you get less Pencil life on the nib and battery.
Plus do you know that every time you interact your pencil with the iPad the screen on the iPad refreshes 60 or 120 times per second. The more pressure you gave the more iPad battery has to power up the screen... so I think for the greater good tempered glass is good.. but if you can spend on pencil nibs or even new pencil And change your iPad every four years or so then matte screen is much better option
P. S. The matte screen protector greatly impacts your screen picture quality so if you are a heavy content watcher on iPad don’t put matte
@@beactivebehappy9894 thanks!
After doing hours of research I found a matte tempered glass by magglass!
@@emilycarrillo4808 that’s so cool!
Thank you so much for uploading this! I'm getting an iPad for university and because I'll be taking a lot of notes on it, I ordered the matte screen protector. I've been looking for so many videos on a comparison between the screen protectors and I found your video. I'm so glad I clicked on it because it's been really helpful to see all the pros and cons. Again thank you so much!
Thank you for an honest review. Only review that I can find that wasn’t sponsored by them.
First review not endorsing paperlike! Very insightful 👏
Funny thing about myself is that I find it more therapeutic running the Apple Pencil over a glossy texture. Probably because of my frustration with my Wacom pen wearing down every time I draw. I find more satisfaction when I wipe off fingerprints on a glossy surface too. Lol.
Me too I was thinking I was alone to thinks like that ! I think for my iPad I gonna bought a tempered glass screen protector ! In all ipad unboxing I see people bought a paper like screen protector so it have changed my mind ! I am so stupid I have been too influenced by the videos I watch 😕 Now I really now what I want ! Thanks you 😊 !
YES! i had a wacom and absolutely hated the friction between the tablet and pen, of course i adore the smooth sensation of drawing on the bare screen ipad.
I just don’t understand why everyone sells the idea of if you draw on your ipad you HAVE to have the paperlike.
Nah, I’m getting the glossy screen protector 😊
How is using the tempered glass screen protector? Is it better or worse?
Finally a true demonstration and comparison of a matte screen instead of just talks or solely demonstrating the installation process.
I have used many brands of matte screen protectors as well, including paper like and I have a icarez on my iPad Pro now but so far I am mostly impressed with the elecom.
have you tried bellemond? I just bought it for my first ipad ever, couldn't find elecom anywhere, though heard lots of nice things about it too :'D
absolutely love how you’re not sponsored and completely unbiased!! 10/10 love the honest review and amazing comparison
I was waiting for you to say more control because that's a major problem of mine with the iPad, and you definitely did plus more. I'm buying this now, thanks for taking the time for this review.
thanks for showing that white reflection on the screen protector, exactly what i was looking for!
Thanks for the honesty in the review and the link ! Was able to make an informed decision! Going to try and place this over a tempered glass screen protector so I still have the safety of a more sturdy screen protector
Just a note that, if you do plan to put a matte screen protector over a tampered glass the response rate for the pencil might not be as fast since there is a lot of material between the pencil and the actual iPad screen. I hadn't actually tried it but just a thought.
Did you try it?
Thank you for such genuine reviews! I really appreciate all your videos :)
Namaste !
After Watching So Many Videos you were so helpful and informative.
Thanks for your humble and honest review 👍
I got ASMR tingles when you were drawing the letters at the start 💆🏻♀️😂
Thx, really appreciate the honest, conscientious review. Subscribed.
Really good comparison of the two screen protectors, was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!!
Thank you so much Teoh, I always come back to check your advice on things I am looking for. I know screen protector is not new technology and even many Chinese brands work well.
Good man... It's good to have interegity
As someone who has an iPhone iPad and Mac the screen protector really makes this feel like a unique device that I use for real Educational stuff
Glossy- higher brightness, better colours, darker blacks, sharper details, lesser scratches
Matte- anto glare, less fingerprint, resistance, looks cool
matte = ASMR and paper feeling
Which screen protector do you recommend me?
I am looking for one that doesn’t make lose my screen too much quality but that has also a great writing experience.
By the way you earned a sub :)
Unfortunately all matte screen protectors will affect image quality. I recommend SuperShieldz from Amazon which is cheap and good. If you don’t like it you can remove and won’t waste too much money because it’s just $10 for three pieces
@@teohontech7141 Does the SuperShieldz protector scratch using apple pencil 2? And does it destroy your pencil tip ?
@@Can_38 Seems quite gentle to the pen tip for me.
I prefer tempered glass screen protector over textured. That is what I have on my iPad Air. I want a smooth flow with glass over a more resistant textured surface.
Thank you for this. I really wanted a screen protector because I find drawing on glass uncomfortable. I know of paperlike but the price really irked me. Also, I have a question. Do you purchase the official Apple replacement nibs, or do you use alternative brand nibs?
I've bought third party nibs before and some are good, some not so good. The ones that aren't good have a larger tip compared to the sharper tapered tip of the original tips. So I would recommend getting the original tips even if they are slightly more expensive. Anyway they are going to last for a long time so it might still be worthwhile compared to getting something that's not good quality, and having to spend money again to buy something better.
@@teohontech7141 alright then. Thank you Teoh.
@@teohontech7141 I think so, the apple pencil works so much well than any alternative ones.
same problem with me - the reflection. im changing to the tempered glass screen protector since i dont really write/draw on the iPad. great video btw!
Omg! Thank you for unbiased honest review. Much appreciated!
Hey thanks for the honest review and reject paperlike, but i have a question here.
If u play video game with your finger is it comfortable???
i have one on my ipad rn so I wouldn’t say its uncomfortable but when your nail scratches on it... ughhhh
@@Dani-js5tf but afterall is it worth it for play a game?? Or just nice for few minute for games?
Trio Ridho illahi if you’re just using it for games I wouldn’t recommend it
It’s good for writing and drawing tho
Thanks for this video! I would have loved to have seen you also draw on the iPad without the screen protector as a side by side comparison.
Brother, how is that supershield protector holding up? Would you recommend it? Kindly also tell whether over time scratches build up on the protector or it holds up nicely? Thanks!
Holds up well. The texture will wear off with use so it will become smoother, but not as slippery as glass. Anyway, there are three pieces included so you can replace without having to spend again.
I've tried both tempered glass and matte screen on my iPad. Using matte for >5 months and drawing constantly (my art style requires a lot of strokes) ruined the apple pencil nib quickly! D: the nib cost around usd 10. Now I'm using tempered glass but it's so slippery that I have to redo my strokes more often haha. It didn't change my final drawing whatsoever but I just have to tradeoff between "good grip" and "keeping my nib"
You can get third party Apple Pencil tips. However, some tips are not as tapered/sharp compared to original Apple Pencil tips.
@@teohyc Thanks! I've seen some third party nib on the online marketplace but it has bad reviews so I'm kinda afraid. Great video comparison btw!👍
There is an artist in Germany who founded the start up Pencillovers that produces leather pencil nib covers. They are made for the usage with a tempered glass screen protector and they work really well.
Oh thx for the help i definetly dont want to dim my colors or get a glare ill just use the clear 9h ones instead
Hey people ! If you preferred a glass screen protector but you gonna write and draw with your iPad and so you hesitate
You can bought a tempered glass screen protector but also bought a tip cover for the pencil and it can be a good alternative for you !
Hii! Does the tip cover make it feel less slippery?
@@yedvanycastro2566 Normally yes but I think it also depends on the brand and the quality of the tips and also sorry to answer so late ! :)
Thanks, I appreciate the honesty!!
Thank you for he honest review!!! I found this really helpful #subscribed!
would you recommend applying matt screen guard on top of a tempered glass?
If I use a glossy screen protector would it also ruin the tip of the pencil ??
It shouldn't affect the tip
Teoh Yi Chie Okay thanks 🙏🏻
What a dilemma-saving the screen but with glare or not. I have over the years had numerous cellphones and tablets and have never used a screen protector. The tablet that I am using now (Samsung Tab s2) which I have had for about 8 years has no scratches or any defects with daily wear and the same for all my cellphones. But u make a good point about how the pen feels when u r drawing-like on paper. Soooo I think I may get it and try it out.
thx for this great info :)
Thank you for the review! Thanks to you I decided to actually get that one screen protector you had in this video :)
Just because I really need texture to control lines since the slippery glass makes drawing straight lines almost impossible unfortunately
ive been planning to use my ipad for note taking. May i know how long the tip of the apple pencil will wear out if used on matte screen protector?
It will wear out but it won't wear out that fast. Anyway, replacement Apple Pencil tips are 4 for $20.
From another video I watched if you use it for over an hour each day every day it usually takes 6 months for the tip to wear. It really depends on how much you use it. So the replacement tips should last you around 2 years with 1 pack+ default nib
^ but you can also buy the tip replacement from amazon. Its not from apple but its much cheaper and its really similar, and its only the tip so it doesnt really matter that much. Its only $8 for 4 of the tips
@@magicallymeg6748 so update, mine wear out within a month. Considering my average usage of ipad is about 6hrs daily, Id say that's quite appropriate. Im using it for note taking with goodnotes.
@@injiyoo7962 wow, do you have the link? Im using sciuu, its cheaper than apple but id like to try if there is other choices too

Does matte screen protector give protection???

Thank you for doing a comparison video, great work! 💯
I use a 2 dollar screen protector, which is neither matte nor glass….it feels like glass looks like matte…
The best of both worlds
Hello! What do you recommend to protect the screen? Paperlike screen protector, tempered glass, or the matte screen protector?
Paperlike and matte screen protector are similar. I recommend SuperShieldz from Amazon because it's cheap and if you don't like it you can remove it and won't waste too much money.
Tempered glass will not affect visual quality much. If you're not drawing, just go with tempered glass.

just Peachy I ordered a random 2 pack of matte ‘anti-glare’ protector from eBay for like £2.85. They work great and are actually more impact resistant than i thought. Hope this helps!
What about the matt one for reading? You didn't mention anything about reading and if it improves that? I use my iPad 10 for reading books.
Does it feel like paper even with disk stylus?
Hmm, I have a matte protector sat next to me. I watch a lot or media on my tablet and get very irritated by reflections on sunny days. I hoped the matte finish would help. This seems to make it seem it would be worse?
All matte screen protectors will have glare and will be worse if there is light directly on top the screen.
@@teohontech7141 it's actually the other way around - the sun comes through the window from behind the tablet, reflects off me and then all i can see is myself 🤣

So will supershieldz will better for procreate and more ?
SuperShieldz is good enough. Cheap and good.
Could someone make a video where drawing on the glass and on the matte? I wanna really know if it really is difficult to draw on glass
Have been following your earlier channel for long, just found this one. I bought budget ipad 10.2, 3 months ago after much deliberation and watching your earlier videos. Your replies were very helpful for that. 😊😊
This one is very helpful video too. Which one do you suggest for digital illustrations? I work on procreate. I used a cheap matte protector but it got my pencil very sharp at nib with the wear plus after continuous use I was unable to see the colors and details clearly through protector. Thank you so much!

Hey so I wanna get protection nibs for my apple pen. I was wondering if you think that there is too much friction if I have a matte screen protector AND the protection nibs that are creating friction too. I hope this makes sense. Does anyone use protection nibs and can tell me if you can still write really well with a matte screen protector? Or is a Glass one better?
Can someone plz
i dont recommend using the nibs on matte screen protector, if u buy the cheap ones, they will wear out in 2 days and some might even create fallout particles. just use the original pencil tip and replace it once in a couple months.
20 usd for 4 original tips that actually last u long enough aint too bad
Shenja C once you get used to the glass you will not felt a need for screen protector.
so if i bought Icarez protector and 4 tips for my apple pencil, it will be fine? because i use more for draw, taking notes and multimedia, but i saw a lot of comments that matte screen changes the screen quality, but what about icarez ? or bellemond?
All matte screen protectors will affect the screen quality. 4 tips will last a long time
Do you use a glove when drawing? I notice when I put my hands resting on the screen and taking notes then if it's glass/clear PET film then my hands got sticky onto the screen and very uncomfortable to move as I write along. That's one plus for matte films as well but a glove may solve it (it might look a bit overkill in a classroom...)?
No glove. But a glove helps make the palm move on the screen.
@@teohontech7141 Thanks! And also for the nice reviews. I am a bit undecided on using matte screen protector or using a glove on the bare iPad screen (both are fine writing experience to me). I mostly take course notes or work indoors (probably will go with the matte one you recommended~).
not a big issue? I have the ipad pro 2020 and the fingerprints are extremely visible. Its soooo annoying
Best video on this topic
How good is the writing experience with Apple Pencil after applying a tempered glass, is it the same? Else From a scale of 1 to 10 how good is it actually after applying? Thank you
Experience on tempered glass is same as writing without any screen protector.
Thanks Teoh :)
Is paperlike better than matte protector if think from students perspective
I would like to buy it but i have a question....
Does it ruin the apple pen or not...
The rougher surface may cause the pen tip to wear out faster. But you can always get replacement tips.
Are there any good screen protectors that just protect the screen but keeps the smoothness and the color quality of the iPad without a screen protector
Just get a clear screen protector, or tempered glass screen protector. Check reviews on Amazon
Oki thank u so much
Very honest. Thank you!
Do you recommended any certain screen protectors for iPad 8th gen?
The reasons why I'm afraid to go back to matte screen protectors are the dangers of accidentally falling the iPad and the matte screen protector not protecting it. My iPad screen cracked and the matte protector did not seem to have any cracks at all.
Screen protector is not going to protect against hard knocks, cracks
@@teohyc Hi! if the screen protector’s glass, the screen protector would’ve take the damage first before the ipad. From my experience I’ve been using a screen protector matte for 4 years and the screen cracked inside the matte screen protector so I’ve since then switched to glass.
Ironic that the glare looks worse on anti glare glass
Quick question, right now I have a matte screen protector from a brand I can’t remember, I use my iPad mostly to draw for 2+ hours a day. I’ve had to replace it twice within the span of a couple of months, it gets scratch marks from the tip all over the place in less than 2 months and the texture gets worse to the point where it’s noisy and I worry about the damage to the Apple Pencil, any brand recommendations?
Great Review. Informative and un-biased.

What’s the recommendation screen protector for reading on iPad, clear or matte?
matte of course
Omggg so if using matte protector if you have the same bad experience with paperlike protector?. For me I think I’m willing go back to shiny protector.
Hi, since you said you've been using these protectors for years I wanted to ask you something.
I bought my iPad this February and the screen protector in March. But lately I've been noticing that procreate freezes and laggs a lot,to the point where I need to close the app altogether because I can't zoom in/out or move the canvas.
I've contacted apple support and they did a rundown of my iPad and everything was in perfect condition. And they couldn't give me a straight answer about the lagging thing since the iPad was okay.
After that I contacted procreate support and the girl that attended me said that it could be the screen protector. She told me she experienced similar stuff with her iPad but that the advantages of the matte display outshined the freezing.
My question is, have you experienced something like this? Because I do find it quite weird that a screen protector would worsen the display sensitivity.
(may I also add that at the beginning this was not happening, but in the last 2/3 weeks it has gotten insufferable)
It's only under very rare circumstances that the screen protector will actually affect finger gestures. I remember there was a time this problem happened to me too but then the problem went away by itself. So I'm not sure what's wrong. You can certainly take off the screen protector and use the tablet for a few weeks to see if the problem goes away. Then get a cheap matte screen protector again if you don't feel like drawing on the glass.
@@teohyc thank you so much! I'll try doing that and hopefully it'll stop.😊
I’m having the same issue after using it for 3 weeks. I’m ready to remove it all together. I use GoodNotes for planning and this issue is starting to get irritating.
@@RoseJohnson-AuthorRosej I hope it gets resolved soon! Mine seem okay for now, granted I've been neglecting procreate so maybe it was over saturation from my end but its working normally now😊
I actually use a glass screen protector on my iPad and iphone then I put a matte screen protector film on top of both. It works very well too. I only use a matte screen protectors because I hate fingerprints but this way I can take on the matte film and just have the glass and then put the matte screen protector back on whenever but I like both. I do miss the crispness of the glass screen protectors I do admit that but I don’t get fingerprints so eh it’s pros and cons with both Lol good video
Which brand of matte screen protector do you use over the glass one?
@@asimanayak304 Their called supershieldz
Hi mate, do you know any good glass screen protector?
I don't unfortunately. Actually if you have a good flip case that protects the side, you won't need a glass screen protector.
Yesterday I got a matte screen protector and it didn’t last on my iPad for more than 2 hours. I had to take it off because of the grainy look. I bought it mainly because of the no fingerprint and no glare, so it was a dissapointment to see that with the screen protector all clear and white colors just look like when the screen is greasy
So you don’t need a glass protector when you draw with the Apple Pencil on the new 12.6 iPad Pro?
No
i use matte or glare screen protector on every gadget i own, mac, ipad, and my phone. let me tell you i started to get PRETTY bad headache! i took off the matte screen protector on my macbook and it feels so much better! so if you have a sensitive eye sight and started to feel headache when you use matte screen protector, i highly suggest you to just take it off and switch to without or with the glossy one
Reading this made me feel so much better. I thought I was the only only person feeling this way. I spoke to a friend about getting a headache and such and they say I’m overreacting.
yeah, I had this issue. but my newer iPad seems to scratch more easily so I got a protector again.
True. Matte on my pad and clear on my phone.
I have been using matte screen protectors for more than one year. It’s good experience for writing and drawing. But yeah it ruins my Apple pencil nib over time and I need to change my Matte screen protectors once it starts to slippery. I’ve been changing my Matte screen protectors 4 times, they don’t last long and will get slippery over time with Apple pencils and it ruins the screen quality of the iPad too. As far as I know Matte screen protector also doesn’t provide “protection” of your iPad screen from falling like tempered glass do.
