Yeah this is 100% true and to be honest most of the time you only find the people who get anal and gatekeep this kind of thing aren't great guitarists themselves, quite often bands play stuff different live, add fills here and there, improvise solos abit, music doesnt have to always be perfect how it was recorded.
100% brother. Music is art and no guitarist is like the next. Sure some can absolutely nail covers, but YOU don't have to. Just do you. Guitarists are like fingerprints, none of them are ever the same. I never tell anyone how to do anything on the guitar, I simply advise of what I do. Nothing better than taking a known riff and spinning it out of control.
Exactly, no one has to play the exact strumming pattern of a song “Down, Down, Up, Down-“ whatever. Following a strumming pattern destroys your creativity and everything feels so calculated when you do so. So spice things up and play with spirit, strum however you want.
I’ve been saying this for years, music is about interpretation, you’re allowed to play a G chord any damn why you want anywhere on the neck, be creative
He’s got a point. I think it may be a good exercise to be able to create different kinds of sounds from different styles of playing. That way when it’s your turn you have more tools to be able to express your music how you want it
Amen! it's really about playing the song with passion rather than being caught up with the minutia of being overly anal about playing this song exactly like the artist
I love your vids I’m 14 and I’m bout to play my first show ❤ you help a lot
A great lesson for breaking out of strict strumming-patterns
