    Thank you. Bien Camino. What is the easiest one? I’m 75. I kept thinking I could not do this but if Gregory can do it, I can too. I had lost interest in the Camino but came across your UA-cam today. I lost interest because I didn’t think I could actually do it. I worried too how I would arrange for everything, like the flight and would I get lost and am I strong enough. Thank you Gregory, you give me courage! Thank you both for this UA-cam too! I’m saving it in my library. You two offer so much info! I just added your book to my Amazon cart as well. And your song! Ohh 💜💜💜Bien Camino! 🍃🌸🍃

    Downhill is always the worst. Got an injury on a downhill on stage 2 of Primitivo after Alto del Fresno. Got lucky, as the patelar tendon left its place, then got back again. But didn t know that at the time, finished the stage 20 KMS on Salas, but had a lot of pain when going down. Suspected meniscus, took a decision not to risk it and quit. Best decision of my life. Went back home, done the exams, then phisiotherapy. Now I use a small 'helper' just below the knee, done 2 full Caminos after that , 400 KMS total for both. Never had an issue with the knee on them. But take much more attention on the downhills. So always be aware and be reasonable. The Camino is always there for you. I expect to do the Primitivo on 2025. Expect to finish it this time!!

    very true. Downhill gets you. I was on that section outside Orio, on the Roman road, and went down too fast...no poles! and by the bottom of that rocky jumble on a "path" I had torn both quads. No fun walking into Zaruatz. I was amused that at the end you can walk down the beach and they numbered the steps ...400! that's cheeky lol

    I haven't done the Camino but I regularly hike mountains. I've had 2 injuries: a knee injury & ankle one. Both were during the descent. The knee injury, I think it couldn't be avoided. But the later ankle injury (happened 3 yrs after), I think I could've avoided it. I was distracted & wasn't paying attention to the trail. Lesson learned. They're right - be present. I hope to do the Camino in future - need to save first. Buen camino to everyone!

    I have a very bad ankle, so will be wearing Lowa Tibet wides while walking on Camino, and changing into a pair of Nike trail runners once we’ve reached the Albergues. Boots are VERY heavy but need the support. Training with them so I will be very used to the extra weight. Also trying to keep pack under 10kg. .

    An effective way to descend from any elevation, especially if slippery, is to go sideways and make a step-to-step pattern, kind of like skiers do when walking down a hill in their skis. Much safer this way and you then use the larger gluteal muscles eccentrically instead of loading all your weight on the patellar tendon and distal quadriceps. And bless Gregor; hope your leg recovers and you don't need surgery.

    What an extraordinary episode. Thank you for the interview with Gregor. He is truly inspiring.
    Also about shoes. I think my feet are getting wider the more I walk. So now I need the widest toebox and found that Topo Athletic are good for me. They also have enough cushioning. I think it is important to check how wide your feet are. There are other brands that are less wide and may be perfect for you.

    Shoes are tricky for me. I'm a big person at 6'2" 220 (187cm 100kg). I'm huge by Spanish standards. At my size, midsoles and outsoles wear out substantially faster than if I were 170 lbs (77kg). I also have big duck feet, wide and almost flat across the front, so I NEED a wide toebox.
    I wore Altra Lone Peak 6 last year. By about 300 miles (480k) the midsoles were flat and the outsoles were worn down, to the point that five miles into the day my feet were dead. I had to have shoes sent from the US because I couldn't find wide toebox shoes in my size in Spain. IMO Altra durability has dropped off in recent versions so, right after Camino, I discovered Topo shoes and have trained in them all year. On my Sep/Oct Camino this year I'm taking two pair of shoes with me. Ultraventure 3 for trails, gravel and other off-road sections. Phantom 3 road shoes for the too long sections of concrete and cobblestones (as well as evenings). Both shoes fit my feet perfectly and at 35/30 (5 mm drop) they are better cushioned and easier on my Achilles and fascia. I'm looking forward to trying the combo.
    Does anybody else take trail runners AND road shoes? And what was your experience?

    • @GideonSmit
      @GideonSmit Рік тому

      I used Keen shoes for several caminos. But since then I've also discovered Topo Athletic shoes. They have been so comfortable that's all I hike in now. Mine are the Trailventure model.
