Great episode! Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. ‘The plastic bags,’ yes-so true! And the lights being turned on early mornings can be super annoying. On that note, if you’re sleeping near a bathroom, expect the light to come on multiple times during the night as people get up. The eye masks you mentioned are absolutely essential. Lastly, thanks for reminding everyone to be considerate, especially since Albergues are truly shared spaces. Buen Camino.
Great tips guys! +1 on the fanny pack for valuables. I like using a Buff instead of an eye mask as it can hold in the earplugs or in-ear headphones better when I sleep as well as blocking out the light. Also hanging the towel on the bunkbed (as curtains) is kinda nice for some privacy ...
Don’t leave laundry on an outdoor line overnight because it will get wet from the morning dew. I always bring about 8 feet of nylon cord to use as an indoor line. It works great when you have a lower bunk but I always find a place to put it. The body heat in the room will help dry the clothes 😊
If you are using a headlamp/headtorch try and find 1 that has a RED setting on it as it is much kinder to the other folks still sleeping. Thanks for another informative video. Buen Camino
Oh my gosh the door slamming I can’t even . AND THE PLASTIC BAGS. If you can walk the Frances and only stay in albergues and not think less of humanity when you reach Compostela you should get a bonus certificate lol
I want to do camino but just couldnt do these places. Im not a good sleeper at home and just couldnt put up with the noise and snoring. Abit worried about the places being clean aswell.
I'm looking forward to walking a couple of the Caminos, but absolutely dreading staying in albergues! I'm a very light sleeper, ear plugs don't fit in my freakishly small ears, I have extreme fragrance intolerance, AND celiac disease. And my friend who I may be walking with snores loud enough to wake the dinosaurs 😂 I'll warn y'all when we're planning to be there, so you'll know not to be on the Camino at the same time 😉 Or I may suggest that he budgets for private rooms along the way. 😁

Oh yeah, we’ve been that person sleeping next to the bathroom and wasn’t a fun night. Buen Camino!

Those are great ideas. We’ve done the towel thing a few times (and can be done with the blanket too!)
@@DaysWeSpend I always hang my towel like this
Useful information, thank you. Leaving for my first Camino in a month and looking forward with a bit of trepidation. Hoping for the best.
You've got this! Buen Camino!

Thanks for sharing this great tip!
Good advice. Used Albergues on Camino Ingles this year and really enjoyed it.
Thank you!
You could also use your buff as a pillow case!
That’s a great idea. We sometimes use our sweaters as a layer between the pillow and our cheeks.
Great info as always! Would something like a sarong or scarf be helpful to pack to use as a screen for your bed/bunk?
Thank you! Many people use this option. We don't pack those items, so it's not something we do currently.
You guys should open an albergue/ hostel. Really.

😂😂😂😂😂😂
very interesting
Thank you!
Do men and women have separate quarters?
No. Almost every albergue is mixed dorms.
@@DaysWeSpend thanks.

There are many places that have private rooms as well. If you have a larger budges, you don't have to stay in the albergues to walk the Camino.
Please be careful about essential oils. Others may have an allergy to your favourite scent.
Totally agree. I’m very sensitive to scents myself. So I completely understand that only one drop goes a long way (and the drop goes on my eye mask).

Ahahaha. You definitely will want to spring for a private room sometimes.
