Best Peggy O bar non. Possibly best recorded song for me. I had this playing in my garage 16+ years ago. My non deadhead neighbor came over to ask me something. He paused and said. Wow you can’t be depressed listening the that.
this is close to the best solo jerry ever did. jesus christ. straight fire. i just keep going to 3:37 and listening to it over and over. eases my weary soul and brings a tear to my eye at the same time. just when you think it couldn't be more tasteful and majestic he goes up an octave and just unloads. serious flow, man. "i never knew the man, but he was a good friend of mine." even though he died when i was 4 years old, he has spoken to me so much through his playing. it's like he says as much in a 2 minute solo as a lot of people ever express in their whole lives. thank god our universe provided us with jerry garcia. he wasn't around long enough, but few are.
He died the year I graduated high school. I live in South Carolina, where they were banned statewide, so I only saw one show but it was everything I wanted it to be. I am so fortunate for having had that experience. You were four when he died.. you're part of a new generation of deadheads and it makes me so happy that y'all are out there. Not fade away, brother. ❤⚡💙
@@deadheadmays Im a very young Dead fan compared to some of y’all and I’m actually from SC. I just recently went to Dead and Co In charlottes and it was great. But I’m curious on why they were banned in SC?
Great solo, definitely. If you haven't heard this Jerry Band Positively Fourth Street then it's another contender.I had it on tape years ago and keep coming back to it when I want to hear Jerry wail: ua-cam.com/video/A2sugMrWGao/v-deo.html I've no idea whether he got out of bed the wrong side that day but he's getting something off his chest. The only thing that would have been better if it was Keith on keys rather than a synth, but that's just personal preference I suspect. (Of course, we just ignore 2/18/71 as nothing else comes close to those few minutes, and it's also more of a jam than a solo.)
I proposed to my girlfriend on this day 4 years ago to this song playing the background. Timed the proposal to the lyrics and everything. Found out my daughter, who was tasked with filming the proposal, never hit the start button on the camera. Solid memory.
@@davegrabowski6123 I did too but got mine 2 to 5 years earlier as I remember Cornell on the 8th was good in one way but 5-9-77 was one of my 5 favorite shows/sets to put on just before crawling into bed and drifting away to deep sleep during the mellower tunes but often the Bobby tunes would wake me up depending on the show or tune.
This has been the one for the past 3+ decades. Couldn't count all the people I played this for, especially Jerry's solo that sounds to me like a tower of immense size pealing bells over an extensive landscape, telling us that everything will be alright if we keep this flame lit in our hearts. Or maybe I tripped too many times. Either way it sounds fantastic.
my favorite show, esp. the Help>Slip>Franklins to start. Something in the air this night of 5/9/77. The boys did this show and across the US in Oakland, Pink Floyd put on what some say, and me, their best show ever
That Duke University show is wonderful. The fact that it was filmed in black and white glory is the icing on the cake. The Eyes of the World from that is thenp greatest single video on UA-cam. Cheers
We play this version as we roll up to our annual Galena, IL golf trip. Perfect! Year of the Cat is our closing tune on Sunday, just to get everything right. 😢 Jerry!
Homonym caught my attention recently. Fener is a Greek neighborhood in Istanbul dating back to 16th century Byzantium. According to Wikipedia, the "Turkish name is derived from the Greek word 'phanarion' (Medieval Greek: Φανάριον), meaning lantern, streetlight or lamppost."
Back to Back perfection. That Ithaca show is My B Day 2 years before I was born. And then they played my hometown on my 1st B DAY. We are all connected.
Bose Headphones, Cold craft beer, Bright green bud, and.......the Grateful Dead! Life couldn’t get much better........
melonhead34 and peggy o
A couple of drops per friend and Bose speakers.
And some snow

Best recorded song ever ❤ Most perfect and authentic rendition of any song ever. ❤

The level on which I agree with you is unreal
That's really intense, dude. Serious.

Thank god for UA-cam. Nothing like finding a GD gem from 77 in a few clicks! I will honestly spend the rest of my life on this planet listening .....
I had this on cassette in 1995
