This is my most memorable concert I've ever been to I was 16 when I went I'm 61 now I'll never forget what an experience long live the Dead
I wish I could have seen the Dead when Jerry was alive! My husband saw the Dead hundreds of times!! Rip Jerry, we still play your music over and oover. I hate that John Mayer is trying to take his place. No one will ever match Jerry!!
I used to have this version on a bootleg cassette long ago amongst Many other shows. My ex wound up with them all! So... I know the feeling. But I wound up with the kids and They're Amazing! Our Oldest Just Graduated with his Masters And the other 2 aren't far behind!
I'm 64 now, was 18 then there on that unforgettable great day. Blessings!
I was 16 when I first went.....Shoreline 1989....I still feel what you said....I am 50 now....Still love this band! They are the best most honest Ive ever heard!
So, cool, brother, I was 7 having soccer practice in the field next to this madness. We asked the coach, who are they, he said "Jerry Garcia, its like a rock opera" (first time I heard the name J. G. lol)... Sure enough, I went on tour at 17 years old from 1987-91 and then 154 shows later Im 53 fkn years old already... Peace, Jerry Garcia ✌🏼
for those that understand no explanation is needed, for those that dont no explanation will do..
thats GRATEFUL DEAD...
amen
Very well put sir!
Agreed. Also, here is the slow hand version I was hoping for!
Amen brother!
:-)
This is my favorite song and my ex of 14 years got to keep our cd. I have searched for what feels like forever for this version. No other version would do. I knew it the instant the music started after 3 years of not hearing it. My soul is at peace now ❤
Glad I could help..!
@Lauren Bagley Yes. One of my favorite songs too. This version has long been known as the best. I know once you hear one version, you get attached to it. I don't hear many with two solos. My personal favorite is from Dick's Pick 29. I had the cassette in the 80s. That one also has two solos and in my opinion is better. Plus you can hear piano. ua-cam.com/video/XCyjxlTbi_QT/v-deo.htmlhis also has another favorite of mine. Brown Eyed Women.
"If ever I return. All your cities I will burn...."
Mrs. Bag
Have you heard the
6/26/1994 version of them in Vegas ???
That was my last show with Jerry .
God bless you and him.
This show is on Spotify.
i was there, and i've never heard another peggy to touch this one
, best dead show i ever saw/heard
4/16/78 touches
Can u name a bad one? Its all good.
5/19/77 Atlanta...or Dicks picks 29 killer peggy-o
It was a great year for their shows. St. Paul and Madison were outstanding and of course there was the legendary Cornell show.
My favourite Peggy-O is from St Paul, 1977-05-11
Strange how after all the shows and everything else that has gone down I still have crystal clear memories of this day.
would you like to share you're story with me for my book about that day?
contact me at Jimdaley50@gmail.com
@@Jimbo4327 your writing a book? That's awesome!!! Do make sure to comment on shows so we can support dead head friends💜
Deadheads remember Englishtown 77... It's out there finished right before the pandemic shut down live music and bars, which was my selling audience. Also Grateful Memories; Ten Years on the Road Taping the Grateful Dead.... Available since 2015.
Call me crazy, but give me a time machine, and following the Dead and witnessing some of these fabled '77 legendary shows is getting serious top 3 consideration.
No doubt
Who else?
no worries im working on building a time machine all aboard
I was there, and I tell ya, this video is a pretty great, effective time machine back to 9/3/77, indeed!
I refuse to call you crazy. You are good. Please take me with you.
Probably the best concert I ever went to.... what a crowd, what a great time.
NRPS, MTB. and The GD. And 125k fans. I don't know how far away we parked, or how we found my 69 Impala 2-door in the dark
@@melaniecotterell8263 I don't remember having a long walk but we must have because we got there during MTB, and like you I have no idea how I found my 68 Chevelle!
I recently got this version with Dick’s Picks 15 Englishtown 9/3/77, which I highly recommend!!) and this is indeed an incredible version. Between the recording quality, Jerry’s vocals and solos, and the interplay of the whole band, this is just the Dead at their best.
Gives me chills it sounds so good!! R.I.P. Jerry..
BEST DAY of music I EVER SAW!!!
Me too🔵⚡️🔴✌️
I’ve turned many people onto the Grateful Dead over 4 decades of my life on this bright, blue ball just spinning spinning free. MANY of them would say to me, “oh I hate the Grateful Dead!” Then we would proceed to laugh, have a few drinks, hit the bowl and I would play some Dead without them knowing. Almost without hesitation, they would say, “ this is fantastic! Who is this? Their limited little minds would be blown when I told them. I can’t help but wonder from time to time, if the Dead had a different name like “The Lollipop Ice Cream Adventure Brothers Band” how many more zillion fans they would have had. So many people were closed minded and turned of by their name. It makes me sad to think of all those people that missed out on a true American treasure. 😎
Very well said so true
PEACE REIGNS! God Bless The STAR LEDGER!
John Scher sold 48,000 tickets and 150,000 people showed up (Star Ledger said 125,000, but that was before the sun went down..... I was there. Can you imagine a Band saying, we are going to play a show at a racetrack in central New Jersey and having 150,000 people show up..... without violence or insanity..... this was when Englishtown Raceway in Old Bridge , New jersey was served by 2 lane roads through farms, woods and quiet suburbs.. whatanite
Jerry could crack off a solo that made you glad to be alive to hear it. They were a rare and beautiful gem.
I was born about 20 years to late. I never got to see the dead. this version though, amazing.
+Seth Cushing it was a grate day in n.j
Don't grieve over live concerts you didn't attend or the wonderful live music you didn't hear. Enjoy what you can and be happy!
I agree with your great response. Let's just borrow from Jimmy Buffet's "A Pirate Looks At 40": "Yes, I am a pirate 200 years too late. The cannons don't thunder there's nothin' to plunder". Majestic.
Seth Cushing
Sorry Son
it was such a special day ,the vide was over the top and music well just turn it up
the best year of my life
The year of my birth. Long strange trip.
I was there -- and I have to say -- it was one of the best days of my life! Many, many Dead shows later...Englishtown stands out above many others. So hard to believe that 37 years have passed. The music was amazing, the crowd was peaceful and fun - it was just a tremendous experience. Off to Chicago for the last time on July 3, 2015.
What a great fucking day! The travel, the friends and one of the most wonderful Dead shows. I too remember this as if it were yesterday. Thanks for the memories everyone.
Oh yah Best Show I've Ever Been To.
Pretty Peggy O, classic Jerry. RIP Brother...
I live a few miles from Englishtown. There is a local band called The Englishtown Project that plays great Dead music...always fun to listen to them at a local shore bar.
what a great show this was, camped out and climbed over the containers to get in,nrps and marshall tucker,my memory of those days is a bit sketchy but i do remember this was a great show
It was a great year to be 18 years old. We rented two school busses and came in from Brooklyn to Englishtown for this show. Now I'm 60! But it's a heck of a good memory! The heat was on that day!
How much fun that weekend was , new riders and marshals tucked in the morning and afternoon and the dead to 1:30 am
The folks below have said it all, but one can't say enough about Jerry and his commitment to music and to the band...........as a veteran of over 100 shows, I can't say enough about how this band and its members have shaped my life through the decades. Thanks guys for your being you and never retreating from that place. I wish I would be around 100 years from now to listen to by brothers and sisters ask "Who the fuck are these guys?" They are really special !!! Indeed, they are!!! There never was, has been, or will be ANYTHING like a Grateful Dead show!!!
Had to park miles away, it was simply amazing. Feel blessed to have been there 🙏
This has been my personal favorite of this wonderful song for over 20 years!! ☮️
Me too
I was there unbelievable show I had never heard that song before this is probably my six concert I just remember it just flowed so beautifully
Coming back to revisit this fine day. I had the extreme pleasure of being a stage hand at Englishtown and was right behind Keith for the whole show. Words cannot describe what a special day that was for me. Observing the interactions of the band members and the impact of the crowd on them was a trip, not to mention making eye contact with Phil during He's Gone!
If you would like to share your story for my book contact me at Jimdaley50@gmail.com
Kyle Roth great song
Spent the night before up in New Paltz on Smitty's Mountain....went to the show the next day, walk three miles from where we parked...dropped and went off into one of the best shows I had ever seen. Later, I got a ride back to NYC from some people heading in the same direction as those I came with were no where to be found.
Well...I wasn't there because I wasn't born for another 12 years. Lol. But I can tell u this Is the best or should I say my favorite version of Peggy O I've ever heard. The clarity is exceptional.
My wife and I where there at age 24 . Never forget all the great people there.
my fav song done epicaly by the master himself....goosebumps! 😎👍
I was 17, the best Dead show I can recall experiencing, on many levels.
was born in 71. dint really know the dead untill touch of grey. wow come to find out they would go to the koffee klatch in fairfax cal. my Mom and aunts place and hang out and have there breakfast/ lunch. Mom said Jerry would sit at the bar read the paper and some time mom would tell Jerry you want your food hold my daughter and ill make it! my moms so cool!!!!
I imagine this to be one of the greatest stories ever told.
Yes!
It was
and sadly women have not changed.....
Too young to go ( and not really into the Dead back then) but I remember how huge it was and all the older kids in my neigborhood went to it . Nice recording !
Was there, separated from friends, right up front, nothing to drink, scorching sun and blazing heat, standing for hours, 20 yrs. old, loving the Dead, surviving... awesome video ❤
what a show ,had to park miles away ,hot as hell ,great show
Steve Oberson We had just set up tent, consumed some BlueWafer that seemed everywhere.Playing frisbee, owner and shotgun asked us to move....Tent never did go back right!! Lol What a wknd.not a thing left on a shelf.Plenty of warm Bud stacked in bar and some festival had rolls for sale, after all that searching, never took more than a bite!! Lol No money even for tolls !One Great wknd...even 40 years later.
Perhaps the best performance of this song. From the two amazing leads and Bobby’s perfect rhythm additions. Would do anything to have video of this.
Not only were the Dead at this show, but the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Marshall Tucker. I've seen the Dead before this show, my first time ever to see NRPS or MT. Great show. We had a caravan of about 10 vehicles that made the short ride from West Virginia and Maryland. I bought a couple of T-shirts that only recently I had to inter! A great end to one of the best summers I ever experienced. Thanks for posting!
great show. Great Peggy-O. The band was in top form that day. Jerry gave the best effort I ever saw, at that show.
I was there.... wow. What a trip.
Have to admit, best Peggy-O. The one in Las Vegas is pretty great too!
I was there. Marshall Tucker, New Riders of the Purple Sage. The DEAD. GREAT TIME.
Many stellar versions in 1977. It was a strong year for the song, obviously this being a great example.
For personal reasons I lean towards Boston May '77.
Im also big on fox theatre also may 77
4/30/77 Palladium NYC best Peggy O. I was at that show, Englishtown and many others on the spring '77 tour. 1st set 4/30 one of the 5 best sets of 1977.
Come on now, who else sounds like Jerry...NO ONE!!! When he sings, it's as if it really happened to him. Rest in peace Jerry and take care and watch over my sweet husband Trevan 08 22 2022. 😢
Thanks Betty for all the boards.
And Travis Bean of course.
On this Day the police would not let exit to Raceway Park. So in True Fashion we ran the Barricades because we had Tickets. and after dumping the car as far as we could drive. We follow the the sound of Pannama Red as the Riders greeted us in. There is just so much to say about this whole day, but as Night fell and the Dead played on. all i can say is WOW. this is Not a Strange Trip. Waking up the next day was another rebirth for humanity shared with 1000's of Dead Heads. I have been Blessed to be a Part of it all and it will remain with me to the End of my Days..... Thank You to everyone who has shared the Journey we me and Thanks goes out to the "Band" w/ Peace & Love always....... steve
Isnt it funny how classic songs played in their original version has been covered differently but other or new artists to show how diverse the songs cud be… The grateful dead did that everytime thwy played their songs. Different each time. AWESOME
With great joy and amazement I was present and nearly accounted for at this show and it remains one of my most cherished brain washes
I was 7yrs old and a VW bus parked 3.5 miles from Raceway Park as I was mowing the lawn( yeah kids learned how to mow early those days). They asked how to walk to Raceway Park and 2 days later they returned, covered in dust and smiles…. Fast forward to college and got the cassettes of the show and immediately understood why they walked so far to the show…
I was there with my first wife on our Honeymoon. We stopped to go to paradise. Good show only fair sound. Saw shows in 1973 with the wall of sound which blew this show away.(Utica, Buffalo etc. and Philadelphia, Washington and New York!) Great Peggy O!
Yes...and the Estimated/Eyes is also one of the Best Ever!
Every store was stripped!! Could not buy food only Beer and Drugs , I agree much more than 125,000!!
I was there and I don't remember shit.
lol
me too, vague memories lol
you had a good time.
Mushed have been something you ate...
you remember you were there, that's good enough
I was born the year before this show. And the only time I ever wish I was born or lived at a different time..involves the dead...and the more free days of the u.s.
It's 2018 and without effort u r constrained constricted and conformed to a horrible existence............
if not careful..
I was born the year of the show and now here we are in 2020. 20fucking20.
Makes me want to cry, Jerry brings it all out of me!
Lived in East Brunswick. Didn't go to the show as I was 12 with no means. Got an 8 track of the show from my cousin who went, from Union College. Went to Englishtown every Sunday for the flea market and tried to recreate the show in my head for years afterwards.
One of the best shows I ever hit. The vibe was incredible all day and all night long.
+Ed Huydic it was a grate day allmost 40 year has passed and it sounds better today
Agreed...magical, and spiritual...
Was there ,16 years old, got up to the front row for 2nd set right in front of Bobby, loved every second ……..
I was at the concert and remember this being a particularly good version of this song. Hearing it now confirms that memory. Really pretty and emotional turn, played to all the Dead's strengths, in a kind of quietly euphoric large crowd on a warm but pleasant September afternoon/evening in a very pleasant part of the world. I love this recording because you can hear Phil better than you could at the concert.
I was there too and remember being blown away by this version. The great thing is that in addition to seeing them perform that day I get to hear this very good recording and - let's face it, we get to hear a lot we missed that day. Best of both worlds! It was a wonderful day.
I was there too. I miss those days
Was there and it was fun!
The apex of Grateful Dead playing /music.
I will always love them
Peggy Zabicki will you marry me...pretty peggy O

I was there! Crazy daze!
One of the best Dead shows I ever saw !! Great time to come of age !
I was there.....Great Weed...amazing sound ..clear as a bell even 4 miles away....great times..!
i remember this day. Didn't go there. But the Vibe went a long way
Their best ballad. End of story.
Was there. Nice hearing this
Love it. amazing performance !
And I was there. The highlight of my NJ youth,,
You know it’s going to be a good one when Jerry pulls out two solos in Peggy-O
Me and 15 of my friends were there! Great Performance!!!
Great choice. Nostalgic to say the least.
Absolutely ripping
THE SECOND JAM
sweet tune!can't bevile it over 40 years !
Simply magical
remember it well. got sick as a dog but the music was awesome.
Gives me chills, every time.
imho, the "best" Dead concert of all
i was there too...trippin my arse off.
sweet
I raise you 1/22/1978. Minute 16 on a show recording. Jerry's voice quavers and breaks as the emotion takes him
How could it not b
I'm not a "favorite song" kinda guy, but if pressed I might have to say Peggy O. I know that while Jerry was playing it, it was his favorite. : )
All the showboaters of the guitar...... listen n watch the master at work .
You got that right he is the master
❤so sweet❤
The Dead reached for the better angels of our nature.
I was there!
