    My wife grew up in Scotland and taught me the Scottish version, which was a bit more bouncy, she had a beautiful voice. She died a few years ago
    the tune brings me back to our amazing journey together Thanks

    It’s an old Scottish folk song. The original author is unknown and there’s been many versions of it, but Jerry’s version is the only one that can make me cry 🥀

    May 11, 1977, Saint Paul Civic Center - my first Dead show. Just before my 16th b'day, I went alone 'cuz friends weren't into this concert stuff yet. I Did not know what I was in for with the Dead, but it was obvious well before the music started that a Dead concert was very different from the handful of previous concerts I had attended. What band! They'll always have a place in my life and my heart.

    This is my pick for the best Grateful Dead concert of them all. Now I know many of my brothers and sisters will disagree with me about that statement. But what I am sure we can all agree upon is that there is no better example of Peggy-O to be found anywhere! And that would include the studio version that they left on the recording room floor. Only the Englishtown New Jersey show gives this version competition.
    In this one rendition of this song several of my friends finally came to understand what it was about them that we came to see. Thanks for uploading. Garcia for Life. RIP.

    To those who say "this show or that show had the best Peg" well, that is pretty subjective mostly...We can all agree that this is an awesome Peg, but others may think thisshow or that one is better BUT, ya know, sometimes the individual may be stuck on a particular version where maybe Jerry forgot some lyrics or his voice was super raspy or he dropped his guitar or whatever, but to that one person, it was the best Peg for him or her because they were there, twirling and loving life :)

    • @marktoner6886
      @marktoner6886 3 роки тому

      That's part of the fun, isn't it? People turn others on to a version that may have showcased another aspect of Jerry's and the Dead's magic. I will say that any Peggy -O from spring and summer of 77 is pretty amazing and, for me at least, a cut above the rest. Jerry's solos and his voice were both in prime form.

    Agreed! This is actually on of my all time favorite shows and definitely my favorite Peggy-O. Check out the Jack Straw from this one, too.

    For all those of you who don´t know, this song is actually a Scottish folk tune. And what a gorgeous and quintessentially Dead-like this performance of it is! :)

    I have so many versions of Peggy-O. Saw some great ones too (most notably Englishtown), but this St. Paul version, within the context of the songs played in the first set that night, just add to it's greatness. One of the overlooked gems of May 1977. Missing Jerry terribly whenever I hear this, and especially so with your photo montage Chase. Your 'ups' of the band are just the best. Thank you.

      Now my love has died just like the song. We are forever apart. Life is too hard for me. We wanted to marry and never did.
      My momma loved him. She passed in Feb 2017.
      In a turn of true irony, He passed on 4 20 2017. I imagine he wanted it that way.
      Shine Bright My Beautiful Andy.
      I will never replace you.
      Love Susie-O.

      Richmonder here. Wasn't born yet, but 5/25/77 changed my life as soon as I heard it and it started an obsession. The dissipation of 'the other one' into 'wharf rat' from that show is embedded in me forever. I sometimes like to think that on the eve of their trip to Egypt looming the Arabian artwork and design of the mosque might have inspired the band just a little more that night.
