Can we actually talk about how sick this campaign is from the twist to the 80s tech to the options throughout the game like for the Russian embassy mission and how many options you get throughout so good I mean we’ve got a job to do. Such a good line. The fan base for this game really annoyed me not all of them but when for the campaign if you save park which I did the fan base going SIMP SIMP nah shes the better character and we had more bond with park
Imagine the Break on Through mission but from the perspective of someone watching Adler guide Bell Bell's just unconscious on the table muttering "I fell in a pit and there were zombies and spooky voice laughing" while Adler just gets progressively more annoyed.
9:46 THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE WHO ALSO HAD THE SAME PTSD ON THIS MISSON, as a wise crazed old man said “So we are the same, (gaming wins). Shaped by those we have lost.”
During bells memory section at the end of the game you can actually find zombies in a tunnel rat section. I was playing late at night when I found it. It scared me so bad I yelled and woke my parents up they were not happy
I think this game had excellent callbacks and foreshadowing. The fact Bell can read hidden messages, one being about JFK's assassination shows they were brainwashed all along, and references Mason being brainwashed to kill JFK.
man I can't belive you skipped the bo4 campaign. It was filled with so many great twists and turns that served as a great addition to the Black Ops lore.

@@platinumwolf526 yeah I thought it was alright, just didn’t like the characters at all. If Treyarch had the game the whole time I bet this would’ve been a top three campaign though. But they didn’t so it’s just average even with a pretty good story.
In the Vietnam section, you're riding a Huey, not a Hind. Hueys are famous for their appearance as the US helicopter in Vietnam. While Cobras were used, they paled in numbers to the Huey which is one of the biggest symbols of the war. The Hind is a Russian assault helicopter, not entirely different but has a slightly different role and looks very different. It was also used by the Soviets, not the Americans.
The only thing but knocked me out of the fun of this game though is the models depicted are Ns which didn't fly until the 1980s, had completely different engines and you can see in the exhaust nacelle which just makes it look wrong for the setting. Makes me wonder if they jut decided to use an old model from modern warfare as opposed to creating something more appropriate?
@@indianajon7980 Well, Modern Warfare didn't use any Huey models, none of them existed. Black Ops has always been a series which featured a huge amount of anachronistic things- most of the weapons and vehicles were in the original Black Ops, or at least a large amount of them were. Black Ops I let you control an Mi-24 Hind A for a mission, but that helicopter wasn't a thing until 1974, and that mission was 1968, for example. And many of the guns weren't out for years if not decades.
I was just about to comment that they were riding in a Huey. That's my favorite helicopter of all time, so I love it when it gets recognition in film, and video games alike. Just a beautiful aircraft. I know what you guys are talking about when it comes to the weapons that didn't exist, or weren't used during the conflicts depicted in the original Black Ops. The G11 for example was a prototype. It was never brought out into the field. From what I've heard only 10 were ever made. Still badass.
I got the good ending for the game but never trusted Adler. When he was talking to us I knew what was about to happen, so was prepped for a possible quick time event. When we both drew our guns I was mashing the right trigger so fast.
Black Ops Cold War was a true successor to the amazing, creative and nostalgic COD campaign's of the late 00's and early 2010's. The missions were all creative and unique, the characters were amazing and memorable. The Numbers in Mason's section were a creative callback. The Soviet Kremlin mission was amazing and had some hitman and fallout vibes. The "breaking through" mission with the flashbacks and revelations of Bell's brainwashing was excellent. Adler's character is up there with characters like Price, Soap, Woods and Mason
I didn't think the Lie ending was sad at all. Sure, in the beginning Bell was just a source of intel to the team, but by the end of the game you've fought alongside these people and risked your life for theirs. It broke my heart to save Lazir and have him still obey Adler in giving Bell more doses of whatever drug despite him knowing it could kill them. Even after lying to Bell the entire game and getting Bell to tell the truth in good faith, Adler lies AGAIN and tells Bell "you're still one of us" before killing them sometime after. Maybe the whole team didn't deserve to die but Adler is (imo) one of the biggest bastards in CoD. Bell's happy ending would probably be the Lie ending as they once again in control of their own destiny and shown loyalty in kind by the Perseus group when they help in the ambush. Hell, one of the LEADERS of Perseus shows up PERSONALLY to help Bell exact revenge and welcome Bell back into their arms. The nukes are still bad though :/
Adler is the best damn spook I've ever seen on camera, no matter what ending we pick, he's a Judas. His betrayl to Bell was gut-wrenching. It's so easy to hate that son of a bitch and that speaks volumes to the performance and character development put into this campaign. Phenomenol performance.
So, wierd thing, when making Bell's little character profile at the start of the campaign, I chose ex-KGB as their background, not realizing how close it would be to the actual reveal of Bell being part of Perseus. Just a little coincidence I thought was humerous after realising, even if the profile on Bell is everything fabricated by Adler.
I love this game, I wish it could've gotten more love during development. If they started the 2 year cycle with MW19 it would've been so good. The opening shot with Spirit In The Sky is still my favorite shot in recent CODs.
I actually liked the campaign and it felt a little like Black Ops and Modern Warfare mixed together to make a beautiful experience. They also put some horror into the campaign which made it even better. I beat it in Realism and I felt so accomplished after.
The lighter in the beginning instantly reminded me of the old 80s spy TV show ''Mission Impossible'' ( way before it became the Tom Cruise featuring movie franchise), which started in similar manner with a sole match lighting a fuse

For me Black Ops Cold War was a return to made what made the black ops games (black ops 1 & 2) black ops games. Black ops and 3 & 4 had some tie ins and references to previous games but BO3 and B04 just don’t feel like black ops games especially black ops 3.
There’s a great detail where when you’re in the safe house and if you walk off you can see Adler watching you and when you spot him he looks away again!
What I love about the new CoD development is that since CoD is a tried and true formula, it allows the devs to try some new things each game without getting an eyebrow raised from management.
After watching Oppenheimer and then replaying this campaign because I remembered how much i enjoyed it the first time and hearing about the Russian spy in los alamos and seeing Oppenheimer in the game just made it so much better for me
Funny thing is, I couldn’t get into the new Modern Warfare, felt like rewriting history, but loving this one. Picked it up on sale, no regrets. And my custom character was Vasili Petrenko. Defector background. If you know, you know.
If you really like the Cold War vibes of this, maybe you want to check out "Phantom Doctrine"? It's a Cold War based XCOM-like game. Very fun. Got some twists.
12:42 Just a cameo. New MW games and all the BO games are still separate timelines. Even if they were, their timelines wouldn't match up. For example, MWII takes place in 2022, but at this point in the BO timeline, US is in a Cold War with China, human augmentation is rampant, and we're three years out from BO2. Warzone is also its own timeline.
The old black ops is the separate timeline, 2019 and on is a combined timeline because of zombies and the cod multiverse being destroyed. It’s why zombies is now canon, same as black ops and mw and vanguard. Just minor tweaks to works at war, bo and bo2’s past missions and they fit the timeline. Just wanted to share.
There’s the whole “evidence” side plot, which can get you side missions and change the outcome of the ending you get (if only through the narration at the end)
I actually got the bad ending my first play through, I was super posted when I found out I had been lied too the entire game by Adler, never obeying his orders and not feeling bad at all for when I had to kill him
i just finished my first-time playthrough of Cold War just so I could watch the video without spoiling myself (COD campaigns aren't exactly the longest affairs, so not exactly difficult). I agree with your saying that the campaign is way too short for all the good ideas it had. I think it took me something like five, six hours tops and I was really taking my time with it. Something I noticed that was interesting: For that mindbending mission I seesawed violently between obeying Adler's narrative prompts and defying them, but I never got that projector building the door scene, nor do I remember ever seeing enemies turn into Adler, though I did see lots of other interesting, surreal and creepy things that you didn't mention. I wonder just how many variations of that mission are there? It definitely makes me want to go back and play it multiple times to find out. Which I guess is kind of the point, so mission accomplished? That trippy mission was probably my favorite one in the whole game though--it had so much disorienting and creepy imagery it actually managed to make me feel unsettled. I wish they used more of that horror element in the rest of the game. I also really enjoyed the Berlin Wall mission--that one was too short compared to the rest of the game, in my opinion; but then again, I just really enjoy undercover spy fiction and tend to prefer the more subtle intel gathering stuff rather than the Bond/Bourne-esque action movie (not that I don't enjoy those too, it's just a very different aesthetic--and, I argue, an oversaturated one).
I know this is way late, but there are four possible paths/outcomes with Break on Through. Dunno if you can do them all in one play through, but I somehow popped the trophy for it after two runs. It was a total mind f*** and I loved it!
Real talk though- given the betrayal that you face in the "Good Ending" as Bell, I was...almost drawn to the "Bad Ending" as being the actual good one. Do millions die at your hand? Sure. Is the entire world order practically expunged leading the way for Perseus to take control of the USSR and eventually the world? Yeah. But...ultimately...Perseus was the only one who actually believed in Bell to do what he felt was right. Perseus was the only one who was willing to stand by Bell's side. He doesn't HAVE to kill Adler's team in Duga, but if you call on him, he absolutely will save you and stand by your side. Was it the "Good Ending"? Maybe not. But at least you weren't betrayed by those who you trusted. Instead...you got to betray them first :D
12:43 Back in 2020, Activision decided they're going to make all CODs going forward canon. Here are the current "canon" games that are in the same timeline. World at War WW2 Vanguard Black Ops 1 Black Ops Cold War Modern Warfare 2019 Modern Warfare 2 2022
Bo2’s woods and (Alex) mason missions are also canon, though if a bit different. Also cutscenes in Multiplayer/warzone, zombies, DMZ, and co-op(mw19 and 22) are also canon…Blame Nikolai and his “destroying” of the multiverse. Is it stupid, yes, but personal, I think it’s a cool way to make them canon.
Personally I love Cold War just because BO1 was always my favorite when I was younger. I got to feel the same vibes again when playing it, and to me it was worth the money and time, tenfold.
Oh and you forgot to get the Easter egg from Vietnam in one of the trenches, you can go through it and it’s completely black and “things” run at you I highly recommend you play that way art again it was super interesting for me
I think Cold War made up for Black Ops 3 and 4, but I do wish they delayed it a year. There was so many glitches I experienced like falling through the map and my progression resetting. I also felt like the last two missions were rushed and didn't feel like final missions.
It honestly is a well thought out game and in the end I didn’t even attempt to shoot back at Adler and I wish they would have given us a choice on whether to pull your pistol or not
Loved Cold War's campaign. I still prefer BO2 over it though, but it was fun! Really hope you do MW19, WW2, and Vanguard soon. I absolutely LOVED Vanguard's campaign!
In the mission 'Break on Through' you can actually find some zombies in a hole, they don't stop spawning until you die, and from what I remember Adler is confused, very confused
18:53 although that’s the only one where you don’t die. And since I’m a cold hearted black heartless person, that was my original choice because I unfortunately knew what happened in each ending This is the only black ops game that I have played (I’m more of a modern warfare boy and BO 1 and 2 aren’t on PS4) Also PLEASE do either MW2 (original) or the transformers cybertron games
Treyarch has always been the CoD studio that tried to make the absolute most out of their campaigns and side content like Zombies. Not all stories hit well but you can see that the people there are passionate when it comes to their stories they want to tell. I always wished Activision would say " hey skip out on the multiplayer and just make a cool singleplayer" and then delivere what they can do at full force. A full 10+ hours singleplayer or even a Zombies game with its storyline, which is far too extensive for something that seems to happen " on the side" Cold War has been once again been an attempt to do something great. It may not have landed a perfect landing but it sure aimed well.
I live in the same town as the kid from polar express. So I have to watch it every single Christmas multiple times. I’m a full grown adult and that puppet scene still scares me.
I have to say playing this campaign made me feel like james bond with brick in the wall where you sneak around east Berlin and use tranq guns, cameras and blacklights. All and all a really fun campaign with lots of different locations. Also being able to make dialaugue and have your choices effect the missions and even others lives. I think it started off strong but did kind of fall off in the last couple missions. 7.75/10
Keep up the good work my dude after this franchise you should the battlefield franchise you will love it. And fun fact when regean is talking to Mason and woods he has a jar of jelly beans in real life he LOVED jelly beans.
Cold War will always be my favorite COD game tbh. I like the aesthetic (being a Cold War history nerd), I love the story, Bell is such an interesting concept, and of course the main thing, the connection to BO1. My introduction to shooter games was playing the BO1 Demo on my PS3 over and over and over, so when it DIRECTLY REFERENCES THAT MISSION I lost my mind. The only other COD game I had played up to that point, and it directly referenced it
coming back to this great video to say that i’m so excited for black ops 6, i hope you cover it when it comes out because adler’s back and he’s such an interesting character, a man that is nicknamed ‘america’s monster’ and there’s nothing that he could do that is too far in his mind, he’s such a brilliant addition to the black ops universe
a small flub with the Huey is the fact that the model is actually a UH-1Y venom is an upgraded twin engine Huey which wasn't tested until early 2006 and wasn't deployed and used actively until January 2009 you can tell it is a UH-1Y venom by the twin exhausts at the rear of the cockpit for the twin turboshaft engines
when i played this, my dad wanted to know if adler was voiced by Robert Redford and is that why he looks like him. in a way, he really does look like him. lol.
8:18 Not a Hind, It's a Huey Gunship. Hinds were only used by soviets and soviet allies. Super heavy gunships, loads of ordinance, room to transport a squad of troops. Basically an APC for Spetsnaz
5:54 I feel like doing this for people like Kennedy and Regan or any other historical figure it’s all good as long as they do it right. And also when the family of a dead actor gives the green light to use their likeness 6:32 anyone want some Cam Bell soup?
Imagine COD releasing every two years and activison let treyarch and infinityward work on one titel. We would have a working multiplayer and a mindblowing campaign
people that still wonder about bell's death you gotta think about who bell truly was they were like one of the top members i mean Arash wanted bell's place in Perseus so bell was more than likely really far up in the hierarchy
9:42 damn gamingwins be spitting cold, hard facts. Dont forget the foritos too, cant imagine him not having a doritos bag chilling next to his desk to have a munch
I absolutely hated the Vietnam flashback memory expertise mission thing was. Here, do the same f-ing thing 5 times in a row except each time it will get progressively more "Alice in wonderland." Also that final mission, I have never been happier to betray my "team" that was the best part of this campaign.
Just a nitpick, but at 8:20, the player isn't in a Hind, It's a "Huey", the Bell UH-1. "Hind" is the NATO designation for the Russian Mi-24 helicopter. Sorry, can't help myself.
Unpopular opinion, this games version of Hudson’s voice is the best, I love Ed Harris and Michael Keaton, but this guy just sounds a lot more mysterious
I finally got around to playing Cold War when I got my series x. It’s honestly one of my favorite of campaigns now next to WaW and Bo1. I loved it and the references my only real gripe is woods and mason aren’t their characters voices but woods is very very close minus a few scenes it’s ok but mason…oh boy that one was worse. I don’t really think I cared much for the soundtrack of a cod game besides WaW really and a few from bo1 but Cold War one is very good. Cold War is only brought down by its multiplayer with its awful SBMM. Zombies was awesome for me just haven’t played the last two maps due to not having friends to really.
I'm enjoying your series of CoD videos, so thanks - nice narratives, observations, and humour. Cold War ranks among my favourites mainly because of the Vietnam sections in the Campaign (especially the first Vietnam mission). I really wish we could have a Vietnam War-based CoD game!

World at War
WW2
Vanguard
Black Ops 1
Black Ops Cold War
Modern Warfare 2019
Modern Warfare 2 2022
drop WW2 and/or Vanguard from that list and I am perfectly fine with that
@Mate_Antal_Zoltan I say keep WW2 and drop Vanguard, at least WW2 was inoffensive.
@@aaronlaughter6471yes, but vanguard is confirmed canon
Bo2’s woods and (Alex) mason missions are also canon, though if a bit different. Also cutscenes in Multiplayer/warzone, zombies, DMZ, and co-op(mw19 and 22) are also canon…Blame Nikolai and his “destroying” of the multiverse. Is it stupid, yes, but personal, I think it’s a cool way to make them canon.
Grateful to have been a kid the 80's. Just makes this game FAR MORE FUN.
That was a damn smooth transition to the ad
It honestly is a well thought out game and in the end I didn’t even attempt to shoot back at Adler and I wish they would have given us a choice on whether to pull your pistol or not
It’s so funny cause I re-played this campaign this morning
Loved Cold War's campaign. I still prefer BO2 over it though, but it was fun! Really hope you do MW19, WW2, and Vanguard soon. I absolutely LOVED Vanguard's campaign!
In the mission 'Break on Through' you can actually find some zombies in a hole, they don't stop spawning until you die, and from what I remember Adler is confused, very confused
18:53 although that’s the only one where you don’t die. And since I’m a cold hearted black heartless person, that was my original choice because I unfortunately knew what happened in each ending
This is the only black ops game that I have played (I’m more of a modern warfare boy and BO 1 and 2 aren’t on PS4)
Also PLEASE do either MW2 (original) or the transformers cybertron games
If he did war for cybertron and fall of cybertron that would be awesome!
@@sgtroach1510 Totally!
A full 10+ hours singleplayer or even a Zombies game with its storyline, which is far too extensive for something that seems to happen " on the side"
Cold War has been once again been an attempt to do something great. It may not have landed a perfect landing but it sure aimed well.
Fracture jaw is the reason I went on a hunt for a Steppenwolf vinyl record and got magic carpet ride.
And fun fact when regean is talking to Mason and woods he has a jar of jelly beans in real life he LOVED jelly beans.
to this day i never thought anyone else was scared like i was of that scene in polar express. i feel you man.
The only other COD game I had played up to that point, and it directly referenced it
8:18 That's a Huey not a Hind darnit!!!
Glad Raven Software brought the Black Ops campaigns back on track after whatever Bo3 was and Bo4 obviously lacking one.
coming back to this great video to say that i’m so excited for black ops 6, i hope you cover it when it comes out because adler’s back and he’s such an interesting character, a man that is nicknamed ‘america’s monster’ and there’s nothing that he could do that is too far in his mind, he’s such a brilliant addition to the black ops universe
In the mission “echos of a Cold War” you can find a picture of Steiner from BO1 and mason would see the numbers too
16:40 its even more interesting that I've never once seen this in game or in videos talking about the mission.
I panicked on the Lazar or Park choice and didn’t know I was supposed to hold it. Ended up leaving both behind on accident.
This game is beautiful from the campaign to the multiplayer to the zombies. It is a 10/10 experience for anyone who has not played it
a small flub with the Huey is the fact that the model is actually a UH-1Y venom is an upgraded twin engine Huey which wasn't tested until early 2006 and wasn't deployed and used actively until January 2009 you can tell it is a UH-1Y venom by the twin exhausts at the rear of the cockpit for the twin turboshaft engines
12:25
You can also find a photo of Steiner, which really gets the numbers going
when i played this, my dad wanted to know if adler was voiced by Robert Redford and is that why he looks like him. in a way, he really does look like him. lol.
13:37 I MADE THIS JOKE TOO, BECAUSE ADLER AND BELIKOV WERE JUST WALKING AS IF WE WERE IN NO RUSSIAN.
While I love this campaign, I think CW really shines with the zombies mode. Singlehandedly my most played zombies ever
When i listen to paint it black i always think of black ops cold war because of the lyrics i see a red door and i want to paint it black
During the memory Vietnam mission you can enter a series of rat tunnels that lead to a cave filled with zombies
its not just you i know your feeling about the scene.....gods still gives me shivers today
8:18
Not a Hind, It's a Huey Gunship. Hinds were only used by soviets and soviet allies. Super heavy gunships, loads of ordinance, room to transport a squad of troops. Basically an APC for Spetsnaz
The fact you called the HUEY and HIND is an insult to the maker of that workhorse of a helicopter
For me the line on using someone likeness is if they are a public figure i.e. a politician and if they are relevant to the storyline.
5:54 I feel like doing this for people like Kennedy and Regan or any other historical figure it’s all good as long as they do it right. And also when the family of a dead actor gives the green light to use their likeness
6:32 anyone want some Cam Bell soup?
Always excited when I see that you’ve uploaded! Great game, great content!
The puppet train scene also scared the fuck out of me dude you are not alone
Finally someone who was sacred of that scene in the polar express
I really liked the LIE ending, so different, and our friend Perseus looks super badass in that coat xd
Imagine COD releasing every two years and activison let treyarch and infinityward work on one titel. We would have a working multiplayer and a mindblowing campaign
I just searched Cold War and seen gamingwins posted! Hell yeah!
people that still wonder about bell's death you gotta think about who bell truly was they were like one of the top members i mean Arash wanted bell's place in Perseus so bell was more than likely really far up in the hierarchy
So in terms of whats canon MW 2019 and MW2 2022 are the only Modern Warfare games that canon to the Black Ops timeline.
9:42 damn gamingwins be spitting cold, hard facts. Dont forget the foritos too, cant imagine him not having a doritos bag chilling next to his desk to have a munch
I named my character Silver "Bell" Tanaz while playing this game blind. Name does have quite the *ring* to it
It’s cool how you can actually fail to save both of them if you take too long to choose
I absolutely hated the Vietnam flashback memory expertise mission thing was. Here, do the same f-ing thing 5 times in a row except each time it will get progressively more "Alice in wonderland."
Also that final mission, I have never been happier to betray my "team" that was the best part of this campaign.
I always thought the spinning head Adler in Break on Through was a Jacob's Ladder reference whose themes are very similar to Cold War.
4:26 I have Salamon shoes and boots which are both waterproof
Perseus looks like Gerneral Sheperd from MW2 only with Sowjet uniform
Just a nitpick, but at 8:20, the player isn't in a Hind, It's a "Huey", the Bell UH-1. "Hind" is the NATO designation for the Russian Mi-24 helicopter. Sorry, can't help myself.
I've also been traumatized by the doll car scene from the Polar Express wtf.
Unpopular opinion, this games version of Hudson’s voice is the best, I love Ed Harris and Michael Keaton, but this guy just sounds a lot more mysterious
"Run, shoot, cover, shoot, run, cover, GRENADE!" the most true statement I've ever heard 💀
You should do a video on AC Origins. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's story is good.
it just means that the mw reboot trilogy is connected to black ops
I feel like you might've missed the Anytown USA Burger Town Mascot secret
You didnt show that you can completely ignore Adler's requests in the penultimate level and end up in a cave full of zombies!
I’m really hoping that you cover the Bioshock games.
They are the closest thing to art in the video game sphere.
Statue of Happiness? maybe this is the GTAIV/CoD crossover we have being waiting for
I think BOCW has the best cinematics. The Cold War is my favourite war and the cinematics just give off that CIA vibe.
Imagine we're playing a Black Ops game and then we here Captain Price on our walkie, when that happens that's the next time I'm buying a cod game.
I'm enjoying your series of CoD videos, so thanks - nice narratives, observations, and humour. Cold War ranks among my favourites mainly because of the Vietnam sections in the Campaign (especially the first Vietnam mission). I really wish we could have a Vietnam War-based CoD game!
