    Chris Stapleton is one of the finest singers in the music industry today.
    His soul, his phrasing, his impeccable pitch and his tone have
    unforgettable character.
    Because of this, I thought it would be fun to honor all the request
    that came in to take a shot at demonstrating he famous lick he does in the choruses of Tennessee Whisky!
    (I am a bit afraid that once I do this I am going to get a lot of
    people asking me to do other famous licks... but hey, if I get enough requests I will be obliged to do it!)
    But not only is Chris great on this country song, but Chris' SLAMMING vocals should be checked out from his rock band The Jompson Brothers.
    With that said, let's see if we can learn this lick together!

    Ken, I usually get a polite ripple of applause on karaoke night at the pub doing my own version of Tennessee Whiskey. Last night I got a standing ovation doing it with this lick. Sixteen notes in one syllable!! I couldn't have figured it out on my own. Thank you. :-)

    Hi Ken, this was the first quality breakdown of the riff I’ve seen and it’s helped me so much as a musician and a singer. However, I have been listening to the tune a lot and I believe the note immediately preceding the C#-B-A ending is an E and not a C#. Let me know what you think!

    Question. Can you learn to sing better? Is it natural ? Are most famous singers natural? Or did they learn to sing over time. Thanks dude!

    • @StrikerX67

      Anyone, even tone deaf people can learn how to sing. Some people are born singers, this is true. But almost everybody can learn how to have some kind of singing voice.
      As a reference I know someone I met through a talent show. He was diagnosed with being medically tone deaf and he has the most smoothest singing voice I've ever heard.

    As an acoustic solo I get this request a lot and never do it because:
    1. It's not a style I enjoy singing in (the chorus) It reminds me of the teenage girls who audition for American Idol and add extra notes to everything.
    2. Finding all those notes lol!
    Great video breaking it down, Ken. I think I'll give it a go!! "WaaAAaAerarerAAerAAaermmmmmm..."

    Hi Ken, this was extremely helpful however you have added notes in between the 1st run which is 6 notes and the 2nd run which is 4 notes……. Why? If you added this in the tutorial it would have been easier and made sense but you haven’t.

    What a great demonstration on how to breakdown a peice. Sam Cooke was the first singer I really like, my dad turned me on to him. I love the comment on the similarities. I have a hard time hearing Sam in other singers styles, because I think of his style as just how singing should be.

    I have a question for you, but first just wanted to say that I love your stuff, Ken. I'm a lead guitarist who has been thrust into the lead singing position as well, so your vids have helped me do that more easily. I mean, I have been singing for as long as I can remember and had at least decent technique that I just picked up without ever really thinking about it, but your vids are helping me to hopefully get as good at singing as I am at guitar.
    I used to hate singing lead (largely because of the vulnerability that is the very nature of being a lead singer), but I am really actually liking it now at this point since I feel more comfortable and am learning to use my vocal "instrument" just as I learned to use a guitar, so thanks for your tips; they definitely help.
    The question I have for you is a bit specific, but I figured I would ask for your advice anyway. So basically because of some medical issues I had around seven or eight years ago, I only have one lung. Luckily, my remaining lung has expanded in size, and I can go through most tasks of life fairly easily. I just wanted to ask you if there are any particular vocal exercises that you might recommend for someone like me (who has a diminished lung capacity) in order to get a strong, powerful sounds?
    Because, like, I am capable of grasping the actual notes of this vocal riff (I can whistle the whole thing up to speed lol), but when I go to try and sing it, I just feel like my personal physiological situation kinda holds me back from being where I'd like to be. Also the part at around 2:04 in the song when he does that totally flawless transition from falsetto/head voice into his powerful chest voice feels like an impossible task for me to ever even get close to achieving lol. So yeah, what would you recommend to someone like me?
    Thanks for your hard work, and just know that it is absolutely appreciated by many, many folks out there!

      And here I am, finally taking your advice and all of the others who have been chanting "Stapleton! Stapleton! Stapleton!" Chris really is a singer with some swagger and style that makes him a very interesting and compelling singer. Keep making good suggestions, and especially KEEP SINGING! Thanks for buying and recommending my course. People see so much hype about singing programs that are nothing more than internet marketing campaigns that they get the idea that mine is like all of those. As you know, it's not at all like the others. It's what everybody is looking for, but they keep getting suckered by the marketers with empty promises. Where are all of the whole song demonstrations of all different genres from these other "vocal coaches?"
      Hang in there and keep learning!

    Hey ken Deena here ...I happen to have wrote this song and two albums of music he got from my man in 2008. Timothy Julian. Recorded in Nashville at sparks studio...I am the traveler... I've got three hundred songs out. Made many careers.... I payed it forward. And say something I wrote as well . Justin played Napster in the movie and in an interview he said say something so I wrote a song about that statement.

    This really always bothers me and it let me realize that I think I can't sing already, at my age of 9-13 I have a real female voice even though I'm a boy. And now I am on my puberty stage,,,im already 15 years old......and I have an adams apple........can I still sing better even though I have an Adams Apple? Or does adams apple affects my voice?

      @kentamplin  6 років тому +1

      Most males will have a more prominent adams apple (Larynx) as they mature. You're just growing, that's all. The larynx is a cartilage structure, and your vocal cords are within it. You may lose the feminine sound of your voice, or you may retain it. Time will tell where you will land. It's good for you to keep singing and exercising your voice as you continue through your changes.

    Hi Ken, I have a question. In case you can respond, thank you.
    how do we know we ate doing the correct note?

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 років тому +1

      You have to develop the skill to actively listen AS we sing and to compare our sound to the sound of accompanying instruments, the notes before, the notes coming up, and the note we are presently on. We use our ears and our mind, in addition to our voice.

    Hello Mr Templin, I admire you a lot, my favorite genre is Power Metal and those are pretty neat high voices, one of my favorite singers are Tommy Reinxeed (Reinxeed, Sabaton, Golden Resurrection) and Daniel Heymann (Lost Horizon), it would be amazing you try or not try but instruct us on Heymann, I tried to sing his "Think not forever" and I can sing most of the song but not his opening scream and the first "When you find you truly believe, You should follow your spirit as your guide"...I would love to hear you sing as he does hoho I'm asking to much to much and you prolly wont even read this hahaha

    Ken I feel like every time I try to sing I don’t have enough bass in my voice and it just feels like air coming out rather than power or anything loud enough to sound all that great. I’m not trying to scream to the heavens with my music but just something to put a little more bass to my voice would be great.
    Thanks for your awesome vids

      You probably aren't using enough cord closure on those high notes. But be careful. You can't use that much volume, either.

    Oh wow, I DEFINITELY hear Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come in this!! Wow! 🎼”You’re as warrrrrrm...” = 🎼”I was borrrrrrrn....” and then the “Ohohohohoh” with half tone modulations up and down... Wow... Good ear!!
    Well hey if you could ever do a video on how to sing A Change Is Gonna Come, I’d be ecstatic! Its probably one of my top 10 all time fave songs... Although I guess I don’t know if it’d be worth making a whole video on it if its so similar to this one? I’m sure you know though hehe ✌️😎

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 років тому +1

      Cool. Thank you so much for subscribing! You might try it in G. G and A minor would be the chords. That's a full-step lower. Or F and G minor would be another step lower.
