Great tip, Randy… I love the 8” Zoom lizard. An offset worm hook always has a better hook up in my experience over an EWG for plastics which are not overly thick such as worms & lizards. The offset worm hook point is not in line with the hook eye similar to the straight shank hook where as most EWG hooks are in line with the hook eye.

In the nineties when the lizard was the craze I fell in love with the zoom 5” lizard. I always thought 4” was way too small. Everyone else was throwing like you said 6” or 8” but that 5” is magical.

The lizard is probably my favorite soft plastic of all time. Where I fish, I can't get away with the larger ones. I have to stick with a 4" lizard, and I catch pretty well with it. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I bought a lot of lizards as a kid but I never see or hear of anyone using them anymore. Recently got back into bass fishing and wondered why they fell to the wayside. Going to Texas rig some and see how things go. Thanks for the tip on the hooks.

Over thinking it ! I have been using Zoom baits since Ed started the company. Texas , Carolina, etc. 4”, 6” & 8” use #1 straight shank with 4” mini on Carolina rigs ( killer ). 1/0 or 2/0 regular offset round bend on the 6”. & 3/0 regular offset on the 8”. Zoom baits are super soft , and never have a problem sticking fish with the hook buried. I always keep my hooks super sharp. Team Zoom!

If you notice on that hook vs the regular ewg,the point extends further out than the eyelet .that is the allowance of more hookups. Just something I noticed

I've been using this hook style for 3-4 years now my lizards. VMC Worm Hooks work very well too. I also put a tiny drop of superglue just below the hook eye and push the head of the bait over the eye about 3/16th of an inch. 1 lizard lasts forever. I usually do a 3/0 hook for the 4" to 5", a 4/0 hook for the 6"and a 5/0 hook for the 8".

Big lizards are lethal on big bass in the summer. I rig them with a 3/0 EWG but I bend the point to about 10 to 15 degrees and skin hook it in the side. The same as regular worms.

One of the best techniques I randomly tried was tying a lizard onto a EWG, about 30lb braid, 7ft medium maybe MH spinning rod. Tip up, slow roll back across the surface. Tried it after I saw a bass slurp down a small snake. It's so subtle and so good. Very few people present such a subtle surface bait and I've never found anything as good. It fishes like heavy fly-flishing

Another great video. The Gamakatsu Hybrid Worm Hook is the best Texas Rig hook I’ve used in my 30 years of fishing. Randy, I have a humble prediction: This hook will slowly become your preference for additional T-Rig applications in the next season or two. The hook/land ratio is just too exceptional. In addition to the O’Shaughnessy bend’s ability to keep them pinned, the hook point is set perfectly above the eye to improve the gap and hooking capability over an EWG..

I've had great success with the owner offset shank worm hook for lizards and flukes. In my mind the wide gap just seems to "disturb" the profile of the bait. I also have similar hooks with a 90 degree bend at the back end as opposed to the round bend...Holds the baits extremely straight with a low profile and has a great setup ratio!
I don't remember the manufacturer, maybe you can refresh me of what I'm talking about. It must be good because i have 100's of them in my hook box!

Giving up the good stuff forgotten to time. Been using a lizard since the first time I saw one in the bait shop back in the late 70's. Use them all year. in creeks, rivers and ponds. Big fan of using the lightest weight, usually black colored, Offset worm hook or old straight worm hook only. Pinch off the head so the weight to lays nicely. Now usually go with the power lizard most of the time but to each his own, I like them. Your bite out chunk where hook point pops thru may be a good application. Look forward to trying the hybrid offset hook, Some nice design features. I see a ton of applications, not an ewg fan. Love the lizard, its a fish catcher for sure. All the best.

Most consistent bass lure imo. I mostly use black/red glitter or Kudzu. 6" I use a 3/0 offset round bend, 8" 5/0 offset round bend. The round bend works better for me than the other types. 8" are definitely hog magnets.

It looks to me that the offset hook also has a noticeable gap between the shank and the point, not directly in line so the point can't slip by the mouth edge on the way to setting the hook.

The lizard has been pretty much forgotten about. I have tons of therm in my boat at all times and throw them alot of times instead of a worm. I was told by an old time guide at Lake Okeechobee when I guided there that when the bite is tough throw a lizard. He was 100% right , and I still do it to this day. Cannot beat the Zoom lizard !!!!!!!!

Do you ever fish this weightless with just the gama hook? I'm wondering because I fish a lake with a ton of mountain lizards and I've noticed them all through the lake. They tend to suspend but when they swim down their descent is more gradual. I want to mimic this next season. What do you think?

I used to fish lizards weightless all the time, especially when the weeds get up. Comes thru great, rarely hangs up & gets a ton of hits. The hard part is not reacting when they first grab it, want to wait just abit before you bust em.

I'd be interested to see a video Brandy and your opinion on a Carolina rig visit versus the Texas rig for me I fish a Carolina rig and different places than I normally fish at Texas rig it's an offshore bait for me ledge bait I like it on points little deeper water flats but all that aside I feel like I don't get as many bites on a Carolina rig as I do a Texas rig but overall the quality of the fish I catch on a Carolina rig is 3/4 of a pound to a pound better on average what are your thoughts.
