JL LIFE- CAVFAB LCA’s, being able to adjust my caster on my Jeep JL Rubicon

  • Lifting your Jeep? not sure which lift to get? get something that has adjustable control arms and track bar. Cannot stress the importance enough of these parts. I installed the Mopar lift when I first got my JL (was the only option) and I wish I would have waited, from off centered axels, losing caster with the fix arms, crushing spring isolators and springs rubbing into the frame.
On my way to correct the caster of my Jeep with CAVFAB's adjustable front lower control arms. These are 2 x .25 wide DOM tubing, Johnny Joints, rebuildable, powder coated and ready to handle what you wanna throw at it.

Nice choice going with the CavFab parts. I have their upper and lower control arms on my Jeep ZJ and I love them. Mine are the heim joint ones though. I also went with their crossover steering set up. It's solid 1.5 inch bars with heim joints. It rides a little rough but my articulation is awesome. I also like the fact that the heims are easy to grease and easy to replace the on the trail if need be.

Heim joints are badass for sure... but like u said... gets kinda rough for a daily... 😂 cavfab makes great stuff! My buddies xj is all heim’d jointed... and it flex’s like a champ!
My one heim joint on my jl is my rear track bar... I just spray it with wd 40 😂
      Thanks for watching brother 🤙🤙

Great video, I have 2018 JLUR that drove straight like an arrow from the dealership on stock everything. I installed a terraflex 2.5 inch lift kit and added some 315 KO2s plus and adjustable track bar. Adjusted toe and axle centering and it still pulls to the right a lot. I was wondering if maybe fixing my camber will net positive result it's driving me crazy..

at around 6:40... Do you realize there are fittings to change the grease fitting angles. I'm not working on it, but it looks like a simple 90 degree fitting would have it very serviceable.

Did you ever get rid of the wobbles? I’m in the same boat currently with the MOPAR lift and 3/4” spacers in the front. I’ve swapped out the tie rod, drag link, track bars and got adjustable control arms. Sitting on 37’s and can’t get rid of the wobbles.

I have the Metalcloak True Dual rate 2.5” lift, but bumping them up to the 3.5” coils since that’s the only thing required for the added inch. I also have the Teraflex Falcon 3.3 shocks that are good up to 4.5” lift.
What I’m getting at is if I had bought a JL right when they came out I would’ve gone for the Mopar lift, but I haven’t heard much good about the lift unless it came with your Jeep from the dealership. Have you changed out your lift(still catching up with your older videos)? Awesome install video!

Thanks for the video. It’s helpful. After you cut the brake line brackets off, is there any concern they’ll get caught up or damaged? Looking at synergy arms and they also recommend cutting or removing the bracket.

I know that getting the wobbles around 50 mph can really scare the s*** out of you! Happened to me a few weeks ago leaving the trail. I had lost a track bar nut and didn’t know it until I hit a bump doing 45 mph.
I was getting impatient, but I’m so glad I took your advice about the Mopar kit and waited on MetalCloak to release theirs for my 2 Door. I have the MC lift going on tomorrow with all the steer smarts upgrades and I’m so excited!
One plus of the MC LCAs over Rockrawler and Cav Fab is that the MC joints do not require any regular greasing or maintenance. The joints don’t even have grease fittings. They are also designed to be easily rebuilt after they fail.
I have heard great things about RK joint performance, but they do have a weird grease fitting that requires 000 lube (which can be hard to find). I have several friends that have broken their grease fittings on their Rockrawler stuff. They could have been using the wrong grease gun attachment though - I wasn’t there when it happened.
I’m like you though, I’m not a fan of cutting that metal above the mount to get a grease gun in there; I’d rather drop them every 6 months to grease them.
Great video Mo Dale. Once I find a truck to tow my rig around Ill be heading out your way. We will have to go wheeling! I got some Jeep Badges to get out there.

    • @JLLIFEOFFROAD
      @JLLIFEOFFROAD  5 років тому

I agree about how awesome the maintenance free stuff sounds.. I’m more so curious how long it will last over greased joints..
I’m tryna hold out for a long arm kit... which is why I’m tryna correct everything as cheaply as possible while keeping quality in mind...
These have definitely helped reduce the wobble... but wasn’t the piece in the puzzle to fix it.. added balancing beads this week and again had a drastic improvement... so heading the right way...
I’m glad to hear u are liking ur MC!

Those look nice and beefy, good upgrade. I haven't changed out my control arms yet on my Mopar Lift. Maybe in time. Currently, I have the RK Pads on the springs (did that day one with install), then centered axles with RK front and rear adjustable track bars. The tracks bars helped make it less chaotic on bumps and stopped it from pulling to one side. Then relocated my bashed in stock steering stabilizer with MC bracket and added Fox 2.0 stabilizer. Fox all around! No wobble. I know everyone bashes on the Mopar kit. After my RK adds and stabilizer fix, it has done good for me. I think all lifts should come with track bars, it messes up the geometry otherwise. Mopar was slacking on that. Other lifts definitely have beefier arms and joints. After a bit I will probably add RK control arms to go along with my track bars. Someone left a comment on my track bar video, saying it made the JL ride much better when they added new RK arms after their track bars. Makes the caster better. Next weekend I am actually be helping my friend change out this Mopar lift for a full MC kit, minus the shocks. He is going to keep his Fox shocks for now. I'll need to test drive it and see whats up. :) FYI - JL LIFE RULES! Keep up the good work.

They are nice for sure... the mopar ones are not very strong.. hence the giant dent in the rear one... these have definitely helped the deathwobble... I’m starting to feel it’s an issue with my tires thou... I’m extremely disappointed how poorly they were mounted and balanced.. I’m thinking ima swap tires on mistys jeep and see if this fixes my problem... all the changes Iv been doing have been making things better thou... once things get smooth, I’ll upgrade the stabilizer...

My jl drove great till the mopar lift now every bump crack etc in the road makes the wheel shake ive done adjustable track bars the dealer alignment sheet says im at 4.7 degrees of caster im thinking bout adjustable lca’s next. Is there a screw to hold the brake line brackets on these or is it just sitting on there but it happens on both sets of my tires and if these lca’s dont work then its the yeti drag link and tie rod

    • @JLLIFEOFFROAD

No screw for the bracket lines to bolt too.. Iv actually cut mine off...
4.7 is kinda low... most people seem to be running at 5.5-6.5.
Steersmarts is robust stuff no doubt... I run it in my jeep... another great option is synergy... The biggest thing about synergy I like over my steersmarts... is the TRE replacements... $180 if you go steersmarts.... $30 for synergy...

The whole idea is to have the adjustment nut as far from the ground as possible so no damage occurs; making it hard to remove. Mine are Heim Joint on one side and Poly on the other. You want the flexible joint end toward the frame for the most articulation, not the axle. Because you have Johnny Joints on both ends, your definitely all good.

Mopar... yea... most of their stuff is over priced or half way thought through. But thanks for watching!!
Have any cavfab on tht xj? They make some awesome looking stuff for those. I hear a lot of good stuff about their steering for em.

Kind of unfair when you added two inch spacers and said the Mopar lift is no good, weren’t the arms length designed for for a 2” inch lift

    • @JLLIFEOFFROAD
      @JLLIFEOFFROAD  5 років тому

I was rolling my springs over before the spacers went on.
Mopar has some over sight with that lift... no adjustable arms nor track bars...
After adding caster the deathwobble has reduced a good amount.... but it’s still there... I’m starting to feel the culprit are my tires now...
All Jeeps are different and adjustablity is key to keep things in a medium to stay happy.
The mopar kit is overpriced, and for tht kind of money, adjustable arms and track bars should be there.
But no worries if you enjoy ur mopar lift... do ur thing 🤙 I’m just letting people know what I think and experience with what I have.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!

JL LIFE OFFROAD JL LIFE OFFROAD dude I really enjoy your videos, hilarious. I appreciate your insight into things I haven’t tried myself. My Jeep is on 35’s so I think that is the reason it’s working out for me. But I am going with 37” tires in a few months, with that said I am appreciate what your saying. I really like those arms they look pretty thick. I might go with those when I’m ready to upgrade. Appreciate the response.

Lol no worries brother... adding caster definitely helped which is another awesome reason to get adjustables... but I actually had some some DW this week .. I’m starting to think the problem is poorly balanced tires at this point.. when I was on my 35 ko2... it drove amazing lol...
glad to hear u enjoy the videos! I love talking to our supporters!

I’ll be honest with u... home alignment can be tedious... when I was tryna figure out where to set my caster... I seriously test drove it after every turn until I was happy... taking it to a shop... they can dial it way better with their machine.
But if ur looking for a better how to do ur own alignment... I’d recommend this video
