      @@mariocassinelli-centurion8223 Great question. But no, seed/vegetable oils are very, very high in Omega-6 fatty acids that cause inflammation and oxidation once absorbed by the human body. The Omega-6/Omega-3 fatty acid ratio should be like 2:1 but it goes up to 50:1, etc. in the S.A.D. Those oils should be illegal and disposed off but they are selling it my the millions of gallons every day. No wonder we are having an epidemic of heart, cardio-vascular diseases, and leaky artery walls.

    Back in the 80's, when my Dad was in his fifties, his doctor put him on a low-salt diet. I remember he told me to cut back on my salt while I was young so it wouldn't be so hard when I got older. And I did. I was young enough I didn't notice any issues, but I probably would have felt better if I didn't follow that advice. Anyway, I now do have a drink with salt in the morning and the only salt I limit is table salt.

    This guy lived to be over a hundred and said he ate a lot of salt. Some people are sensitive to it and some are not.

      It's actually quite complicated, and I'm no scientist, but sodium levels are greatly affected by diet, especially potassium intake from food.

    Great information. My biggest take away was adding salt, grass fed grass finished beef is great for me and exercise-weight training has great benefits!

    I eat pink salt and I use as much as my body craves. Some days, depending on my daily activities, I use less and some days I feel I need more.

      Don't use pink salt. I did for a decade very strictly. And now I have thyroid problems I have to take medication for. Iodized salt is what you need.

      @@Racex777 iodized table salt is a very unhealthy sodium. Pink salt has over 72 minerals and I have never had high blood pressure. I also take iodine everyday for my thyroid. If you had thyroid problems you need iodine which pink salt does not have. Also, thyroid issues go much deeper than salt. Your pineal gland which controls your adrenal glands starts malfunctioning. If your adrenal glands get stressed your thyroid gland won’t function properly. It’s a lot deeper and than even this.

      @@lisanash6487 My conscience is clear If you take your health advice from youtube your not listening to the right experts. Iodine is really important. The military researchers found this to be very important decades ago. That's why we have iodized salt today. My thyroid problem is gone. I didn't have thyroid problems until I used pink salt for a decade. Yes pink salt has different trace minerals but not enough to make a difference in your health.

    Drinking water that is mineral rich such as SPRING water has alotnof minerals, its different than thebdead, recycled, reused water such as Dasani. Not all waters are alike, there's the filtered dead water or the mineral rich extracted from the mineral rich mountains where the water is born. Doctors in nutrition NEED to explain that to the general public bc when they bring up "water" people imagine its any water and its not.

    47:10 olive oil is more unsaturated, but is less polyunsaturated than the vast majority of seed oils.

    When you work a physically demanding job in all sorts of weather you find out pretty quickly you need salt in order to stay hydrated. Even 2 gallons of water will go right thru you, if you consume the recommended salt intake.
    For a short time I fell for the lie that you should limit salt and it left me with headaches and feeling dehydrated no matter how much water I drank.

    Thank you! This pretty much what I adhere to! But as far as building muscle, I had the big C a few years ago and after that, along with two conditions one of the heart and the other of a lung, in which I am now healed, I lost sooo much muscle. I am a 63 year old woman and have found it difficult to build muscle back. I realize you may not see this or be able to answer but if so I would love your thoughts Dr Axe!

      Hi...I am 69 and hurt my hip quite bad when hiking, and could barely move or walk a lot of muscle loss..I began doing research and have been following a high protein low carb life style along with weight training and walking, if you look up " macros" there is a lot of information, and some great women as well as men that speak about this

      I am 64 and have been using Advanced Amino Formula from Advanced Bionutritionals. I take 4 tablets daily all at once. They worked really well for me. If you cannot exercise you will still get muscle mass.

      You don’t have to eat meat to gain muscle if you don’t want to. There are even vegan bodybuilders. I’m not saying you should be vegan either though. The true human diet is whole food, plant-based diet with limited amounts of animal products, preferably seafood and eggs.
      So whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, some seafood, and some eggs… other animal products if you want once in a while.

    wonderful interview.
    I just want to mention one little point, which however opens a deep rabbit hole, that swallows a lot of people: it is a bad advice to say "just listen to your body." It is the brain that rules and develops habits. Even with very very bad habits, sticking to a routine provides the feeling of security, which is dominant against *ANY* other drive, motivational factor, or internal "measure" of being in the green zone. You can eat in a certain way, being convinced to cover everything, and still being deficient in folate, vit D, K2, and omega 3, just to name but a few. You can feel fine for quite a long time. Yet, if not corrected for 15y or so or longer, and die early with 65.
    The motto is clearly this: without measurement there is no management, without management there is no mastery. Only once achieved mastery, simplicity may follow.
    From that: tracking food intake, even if it is just from time to time for adjusting the patterns, understanding the mechanisms, and implementing it. are the pillars.

    How did we get salt before salt was created, did we get it from drinking out of water? Or within the minerals in soils? Or is it because we can get enough in food however now due to other factors we can’t get it naturally thank you

      @@manro0211 Maybe but the salt that is salt included in all you mentioned is still just salt + whatever is there also. Eat whatever you want with a salt. You, your body, most likely will detect any differences.

    How about eating very healthy salads to include Olives 🫒, Legumes, vegetables and REAL Goats milk, Cows Milk, Goat cheeses, 🥑 Avocado's!!! Love those foods!!!! Beef liver is the only one I can’t stomach. I use Stevia, and Xylitol for sugar. Sugar is only in my fruits and legumes. Love my Black beans with Hot peppers of sorts!!! Love this channel along with lemon 🍋 water 💦

    I’ve always loved salt & my family harasses me from the time I was a kid, to now my own kids & husband. In the last 10 years I started calling myself a “salt-a-holic” 😆 However, my blood pressure has always been normal to low. I definitely use different amounts at different times/days.

    How come I haven’t eaten Animal flesh for more than 45 years and have muscles and feel very well? Humanely raised, grass fed organic eggs, are my main source of protein, plus, hemp seeds, cottage, Greek yogurt as well. My menopause and post menopause have been a breeze with no symptoms…What say you, Nico?

      I’m a plant based eater with very little animal products and I feel great. I do eat organic, no seed oils, very little sugar and I also avoid topical chemicals.

      There are even vegan bodybuilders. I’m not seeing everyone needs to be vegan. We are a whole food plant-based species though, we are not meat-based.

      @@Ane127 Now that you say that, the strongest guy in the world is plant based. The biggest land animals in the world eat plants and are gentle giants. Some of the meanest animals eat meat. Eating meat today is dangerous if you ask me. This is why I eat very little from animals, like milk products, eggs and cheese. It’s becoming unsafe to eat things from them. It’s lab grown meat now and then they’ll go after the other products coming from them.

    Thanks for this Dr Axe. This was very interesting information. Totally off topic but why are people like Dr. DiNicolantonio pronouncing words like important without pronouncing the letter t at the beginning of the the third syllable? It's clearly an affectation, signaling that I am still young. It's the modern equivalent of talking like a valley girl in the 80's. Why would a respected doctor talk like this?

    How come you didn't address salt substitutes like potassium chloride. People sucret salt in blood, sweat and tears. High blood pressure is the only health condition that I know of that Drs recommend lowing your sodium (salt) intake. So if they don't lower that salt intake are you suggesting they take high blood pressure medications? Come on
    I personally don't like cooking with oils, but I do like some like olive, peanut, sesame seed sunflower, safflower and coconut oils.
    It's time to distinguish between the sugars like fructose, sucrose, dextrose, glucose.

    So whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, some seafood, and some eggs… other animal products if you want once in a while. For oil, use extra-virgin olive oil and coconut oil.

      Regarding meat: I read Dr Weston A Price’s book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration “, which was a compilation of 10 year’s study & travel in the 1930’s of primitive peoples & their diet, lifestyle & health compared to what he was seeing in his dental practice with the surge of the new processed foods. My big takeaway was what Dr DiNic mentioned about liver/organs. All these peoples ate organs and/or seafood. Even a remote Canadian Indian tribes secret to not getting “white mans scurvy” was for every person in the tribe to get a piece of the adrenals whenever a large animal was hunted. Price had the adrenals sent and tested in a lab. The lab found that they were higher in vitamin C than any other known food at that time. So just for vitamin content alone, the organs are important, but also, as Dr DiNic mentions, minerals too. I don’t care for liver, but I don’t mind Liverwurst. I know it’s not the best way to eat it. But eating some 3-5 times per week actually eliminated my arthritis pains & stiffness! I noticed the difference after skipping it for about a month. Now I’m making sure I eat some every week again. I also plan to try making some liver pâté to see how I like that.

      @@revealanation7778 We are plant-based. We’re supposed to be eating very limited amounts of animal products as they are inflammatory and numerous other issues that are too much for a UA-cam comment.
      At least know this. There are different diets for different diseases, and for the majority of diseases, small amounts of animal products included, sometimes none. Same thing for healthy people.
