I've always craved salt and eat it liberally. When I was a child I would salt ham, my mom was aghast, lol. My BP is normally low and my RHR is around 70. I used to have orthostatic hypotension when I was a young woman, and I ate more salt to try to combat it. I had surgery in June and my Na, K and Cl were normal. I'm almost 64. Thank you Dr. Berry and Dr. Dinicolantonio for good common sense research.

Had an uncle. Passed a few years ago. Salted everything. Apples, cucumbers, peanut butter, everything. Everyone told him he'd have a stroke or heart attack. Well...even with COPD he outlived his two siblings who were the loudest critics of his salt consumption. One didn't make it to 60. The other didn't make it to 65. He made it to 87.

I took care of my mother for several years before she passed. She had type 2 diabetes and bad swelling in her feet and lower legs. Her doctors kept telling me to limit her salt because of the swelling. I literally took all salt out of her diet, per their advise, and all the while she was craving and begging me for salt. I talked to her kidney doctor, the last doctor she saw, about her cravings and he told me to not give into her because it would be harmful for her. Five days later my mother passed away. The kidney doctor called me two days after her death and said I needed to bring her in ASAP to have another blood test done because her sodium level was dangerously low and they needed to make sure this was true. I told him I couldn't do that, he said " you don't understand this could be life threatening", I told him I couldn't bring her in because she had passed away two days ago. There was a long pause before he spoke and told me he was sorry. This makes me so furious I can't even believe it. 😢

The maximum amount recommended by OMS for an adult is about a teaspoon or 5 grams. My recommendation to anybody is to do bloodwork and general analysis at least once a year. Your body will indicate if you need more or less salt. Some adults might need 8 grams a day, while others might do very well with 3.

When I was in basic training in 1969, back when we put a man on the moon, we had at our doorway in our barracks a container of salt tablets to take when we went out for training outside. We usually took 3 to six tablets, if someone decided to not take them they usually passed out and needed a medic. We didn't have the ignorrant guideline's that we have today, oh ya, we're also trying to figure out how to put a man back on the moon also....

All because I used to think it was so evil because I don't even know why. Obviously don't go nuts, but start the day with a quarter teaspoon and during lunch and dinner, and reduce foods that have a high sodium intake naturally. It killed my sugar cravings too! Am 75 on keto lost 9 lbs but lately having severe leg cramps. Of course bought into a low salt diet years ago because of high blood pressure. I am trying to go off the medication, per suggestion of my doctor, but when I gradually use less, then my pressure goes up. I think it could have something to do with my body adjusting to Ketosis, instead of carbs or sucrose. Very new to Keto, about a month.
My Dad always enjoyed the use of salt. He said, salt was necessary for health, whenever anyone tried to give him grief. He passed from bladder cancer at 94. I’ve recognized that my Dad had a lot of natural understanding about everything, but only now, have I begun to appreciate it. A hard head I guess.

I have three sons with Cystic Fibrosis. Problems getting enough salt is a major problem. One son has had problems with bone breaks and bone density. We were never told that inability to get enough salt could be weakening his bones as well as other CF patients. We really appreciate the information and we’ll be sharing this video with other families dealing with CF.

I’ve been doing a low carb keto like diet for a while to help with my narcolepsy. Lately I was getting really lethargic, couldn’t sleep, had headaches and high blood pressure. I took magnesium and potassium supplements and I wouldn’t feel any better when at first they helped a lot. My head would get cloudy and I’d wake up feeling drunk, in a tunnel, and it was getting worse. I had started eating healthier for the last month and I was gaining weight and all of these symptoms started showing up. I wouldn’t drink water preferring tea and couldn’t seem to pin down what was going on. It was a salt deficiency, by eating healthy I had inadvertently cut out salt and was drinking tea over water because of the sodium found in it along with the sugar which was satiating the craving.
Two days ago I figured this all out and I feel 100x better, all my muscles are sore which I haven’t reasoned why yet but my mind is clear and my blood pressure is down.

Salt added to food is corrosive to the blood vessels. Causes many hemorogic strokes each years. Asian get the most because they us so mich salt. Americans take first place for most ischemic strokes. Too much processed oil in a bottle of any kind is too concentrated to eat. But ok to eat the olive, same w/fruit. Eat the the whole thing not the juice. The fiber slows the spike in glucose. The oil is in every product in the grocery store and everything in the restaurant. This was one of the most important, informative videos I've watched it and it directly impacts my situation. I realize now based on the comments about coffee, exercise, BUN, and leg cramps that I am tending to run on not enough salt. I will definitely start using it before workouts. I have Redmonds and Himalayan but will gravitate in the future over to Redmonds exclusively. Thank you.

For the last 8 years, it didn't matter how much salt I ate, or how little. My blood pressure was always through the roof. Since being on keto, I'm eating liberal amounts of salt and my blood pressure is around 126/85 pretty much all the time on the average.

Man, that was one of the best and most eye opening videos I've seen. It really makes me think about my Dad and his parents, and my mother's dad, all died of heart related illnesses. I even remember my granddad used the fake salt substitute when I was young. Disappointed, but explains some health issues, I'm dealing with.

Had a lot of problems with that when I was younger. If I got up too quickly from sitting/lying down I often "saw stars" and my legs would sometimes not carry me for a few seconds. Always assumed it was low blood pressure, however, all my life I've always craved salt.

When I used to eat a low-fat high carb diet, I always craved crisps, especially after exercise. I knew it was for the fat and salt but continued with my low-fat, low-salt diet because I had been convinced it was healthy. Thank goodness I now know better. Since going keto/carnivore and salting my food, I haven't had any cravings for crisps. My blood pressure has also come down since eating more salt and fat :)

In black coffee ☕, I started to add salt in my coffee over sugar, add cinnamon, black pepper, garlic powder (Yeah, I'm weird 😹😸), & ground ginger only in black. If I have to sweeten it up, just milk & cinnamon (use to add honey but not anymore) no creamers..
I was afraid of eating salt cause I hear that it's bad for you but now I don't question it & put more salt in food and drinks like coffee or hot water with APC vinegar & lemon with spices.
The reason why I put salt in coffee was a British UA-cam video on how salt gives more flavor to your coffee especially black. 😎👍

I used (still do) iodized salt, normal table salt all my life. Cooking basicly daily for 40 + years raised up children grandchildren with very basic meat ( potatoes, just kiddin') and lots of veggies diet, and everybody healthy in my family. I am relatively healthy too. (almost 7X though) The only problem I have is I started to gain weight after my second baby and slowly slowly it got to a point I have to lose 50 LB. The mistake I made I listen to American diet ''experts'' and I drank skim milk and made many mistakes snacking as well, and too much fruit, but the cooking was the good old Hungarian style cooking at least, based on meat and butter and bacon and all that. Now I am going on KETO diet for sure. Thank you Dr. Berry for all the videos:BIG HELP. Thank you.
