Great tips, James! I've been nurturing my happy plant as of late and this vid came in good timing. I have been trying to find out the cause of the leaves yellowing and browning all the time and watching your vid, it is possible that it's due to excessive temperature. This Winter the whole family have had to wfh and I'm guilty of turning the AC on often and I believe the heat circulates well around the location of my happy plant. I'll be sure to do something about that. Love your vids, James! Keep making them :)

Hi Linda - thanks so much for commenting and happy (pun-intended) to hear that it came at great timing! The situation you described is definitely the same in my household during this winter - I turn on the heater, then open the door - resulting in constant temperature fluctations. Spring is coming and we'll get some more comfortable temperatures for ourselves and our plants and your happy plant should bounce back pretty quickly in no time! Really appreciate the support :)

I was gifted a dying one by my sister three years ago. I put well draining soil in because it had root rot but later pretty much gave it up and stuffed it into my UNHEATED sun room for a year because it looked like shit... and it survived a winter and suddenly it thrived. It grew new leaves and started to bloom and the perfume overtook the whole sunroom. I have never seen such a resilient plant. I took her back inside to my other indoor plants and she will always have a special spot in my heart. Came back from the death and blessed me with the most amazing bloom. Right now it's starting to bloom again, two years later!!! I can't wait for the lovely smell.

@Simple Plantation It seems to flower after being distressed a bit, when repotted or their environment changed. At least this is what I've heard and experienced. I bought a draceana cheap locally a few weeks ago, say, 4 weeks ago. It has 4 stems in one pot however, it seems one stem has long ago died as it is quite black. It was generally healthy with beautiful variegation but did have a few small brown tips, that's all. I brought it home and put it in my windowless bathroom and have watered it once with filtered tap water (Brita filter, not knowing how sensitive it was to tap water). Since then, it has continued to have yellow leaves (smaller leaves at the bottom) as well as leaves dotted with brown/yellow tips and brown and yellow spots throughout. I've not watered it at all since. Help! What can I do to save it? I've now moved it to my fairly dark living room but it has 2 windows which a lot of light comes in but it's not getting happier.

@@lanaone5516 hiya! Could you tell me how much time between waterings initially when you had it in the windowless bathroom? As much as they do ok in low light, if there’s no light then sounds a little problematic. For now you’ve already moved it to a place with more light so it’ll just need some time and patience to adapt - I would make sure the next time that you water it, that it is indeed in need by checking the soil with your finger and wait until it’s dry before you do so. Hope that helps!

@@simpleplanty Thanks for your reply :) I only watered it once, probably 1.5 weeks after I bought it and haven't watered since (probably about 3 weeks now). It's mainly the smaller bottom leaves that are yellowing but the brown spots are in the leaves mid way. The top leaves of each stump seem pretty happy and green? No brown tips there. I was thinking I will just repot now that it's Spring basically in Sydney, and get better draining soil and remove the dead stump if I can. I'll make sure to have a regular watering schedule too. Any suggestions to help it not die? Thank you x

It’s also winter and since you just got it it’s also acclimating - so give it some time, spring is almost here too ☺️ you definitely can prune down those leaves and 1.5 weeks in between doesn’t sound too frequent and fine at all high level. I usually add a bit of other things into my mix such as perlite/charcoal so that it creates spaces for the roots to breathe, which also prevents it from overwatering. Regarding tap water, to be honest, I think it's completely fine - I think I made the mistake of spoiling my plants with filtered water, then switched to tap and I did notice that they caused a bit of drama; after time, they just got used to it. Just thinking that in general, plants start looking a bit 'leggier' due to lack of light; since you've just adopted one, perhaps check your environment and lighting conditions, and if it's getting enough light, new growth won't have to stretch out and find the sun, hence giving you a bushier look ☀️ Hope that helps! (I sometimes just purchase another plant and pot two in the same pot to make it appear bushier too 🙊)

What causes the leafs to curl

Hi Patty! Could be attributed to a number of reasons - improper watering, excessive light, not enough light - so it will depend 😊🌱

    I have three corn plants
And they were doing so crappy
I started giving them that extra attention
And realized my green pea plants are curled around it now
I used to think it was cute
But I know now they were also looking for some sunlight.
My corn leafs are brown and yellow to the point I either gotta cut em off completely or spray them with something
I am adding fertilizer cause I forgot to put some on them :(
But I see the corn growing
Where its fuzzy on the top its also turning brown
    Help!

No worries Alexandra, thanks for watching! It's a little hard to diagnose what's going on here without some more context. How often are you watering/fertilising and how much sunlight is it exposed to?
