what his other video because he says as soon as you see it starting to bloom cut it off immediately. Apparently the flower will suck up all the nutrients and will most likely kill it. Who would have thought!!!

Thank you so much for your detailed video! My plant is 23 years old and has never been trimmed, after watching you I am now ready with confidence to propagate it. This plant has special meaning to me so I have hesitated to cut it in fear of killing it. I am going to go with the water rooting. Thanks again!

I had to laugh when I started watching your video. We received one for a wedding gift in 1976. I never cut it back it did exactly what you said it is about 10 feet tall and it falls over. I have not cut it up to hopefully make many new plants. I'm very glad to find your channel.

USEFUL INFORMATION - THANK YOU!! I bought a tiny one 4-6" tall, and after 12-15 years it is over 6ft tall. I even planted it in the shade outside for a few years, then took it back inside. I had the same question, but mine is the easy kind - thick all green leaves. I have grown VERY fond of this plant of mine, but the stem is too thin and it's so tall it doesn't get enough light from the large window near it. I recently removed all the lower leaves and it not only looks healthier, it grew a baby shoot - What a thrill. Good to know, I can cut the Cut and replant the Mommy with a 9/10 chance of it surviving. GOOD VIDEO!!

Wow! Thanks yours is the most detailed videos on Dracaena's. Well, I have a situation very similar to a couple of people that have commented. However, i have found myself in a worse situation . I have a Dracaena but I don't know which variety it is. I've had it at least 23 years. It was given to me by my sister-in-law as a cutting in a jar of water. Roots grew like crazy in the water. I planted it in soil and it just kept growing. At the end of last Fall 2017, it was a single stem 9" tall (>274 cm) and had fallen thrice because it was hitting the ceiling. I took it out to the garage (higher ceiling) for the Winter (big mistake!). It gets cold in the garage in the Winter (Maybe 38 or 40 F?). Anyways, I've been watering it in the garage and one day I noticed that the water tray was full of water. I think I over watered without realizing it. For 23 years, the leaves droop, then i water, and the leaves will pop back up. However, not this time. The bottom leaves stayed drooping and turning yellow. Is it root rot due to over watering? I have been thinking of making cutting since i put it in the garage, but now if i have root rot...what should i do first? Take care of a potential root rot issue by cutting the rotting root first or just start doing cuttings? I'm thinking of making several (3) cuttings since it is so tall. Please advise? Spring has just started and I think i better do something asap. Thanks in advance!

I have a dracena that is a marganata supposedly and am curious if you can take cuttings from the shoots of the main stem or if it has to be the main stem. I would like it fuller and have seen some examples where the palm like leaves are barely touching water with just a tiny bit of trunk. I guess I mean, do I have to cut below the cut stem where many shoots came from prior to my purchase or do I have to cut the main trunk that holds those shoots.

How much water should be in the pumice when using pumice as a medium for rooting this type of cutting? Should the bottom of the cutting be above the waterline in the pumice or should all of the pumice be submerged in water? Great video! Thank you very much.

Ive inherited a dracaena and i think its never been pruned. I want to save it as its the same age as me and i consider it as my twin (parents bought it the year i was born). It needs so much help as the keaves are browning and its tall and skinny. Ita about 10ft of skinniness now. Should i prune it??

Hi, I just got one my mom gave me. It’s tilting over and it’s super skinny. Once I cut I just plant them in the same pot so it can become full correct? Thank you!

You can also put a clear plastic bag over the plant + vase to reduce evaporation and in the first week after potting, then you don't have to remove quite so many leaves.

Hello! I have a 24 year old Draceana that has created a couple of new sprouts over time. He is now 15 feet tall and falling over. I’m terrified to propagate him fir fear of killing him. He has bloomed almost every December since about 2006. The tallest stem grew out of the large original trunk. Can I just cut the off snd propagate it or do I have to cut most of the length off?? Please help!!

I am about to cut my Dracaena, and really enjoyed your video and found it very useful and easy to understand. I am wondering what your thoughts are on using root growth hormone. Is it better to skip using that for some reason? Thank you!

I've never seen a Dracaena bloom. That's exciting! Swedish Plant Guys: roots have grown from just a single leaf which I've had soaking a vase of water for a few months. Will an entire plant grow from just my leaf? Should I plant it in dirt when it's warmer? What advice can you give me? Thank you!!
