Many thanks for sharing Harrison. I'm quite a fan of the Tudor brand. I do think the ETA smiley dial Black Bay watches are becoming collectors items as not only are they a little slimmer than the in house versions but they are easily serviced by a multitude of watchmakers familiar with the ETA movements. It's worth noting that the in house versions have now been in production quite a while and continue to be while the ETA versions are no longer produced to my knowledge. If I were you I would keep it, continue to wear it on the wrist and enjoy it. On my wrist today is also a Tudor but is a Pelagos 42 left hand drive. I love the tool look with the roulette date wheel but more than any other aspect it is just so comfortable for a 42mm dive watch.
I couldn't agree more. I've always loved the black bay looks. I was lucky to get the black bay 58 classic black dial last year and always go back to it, its timeless 😊 Currently wearing my longines avigation big eye another great watch I keep going back to. Not trying to be a know it all but I think it’s good to have the complete story on Tudor’s in house movements. Their in-house movements particularly the MT5602 are made by Kenissi which is owned by Tudor. They also provide movements to Chanel, Breitling and Norqain. Now, Kinissi’s factory is actually physically attached to Tudor’s, it’s logical to assume they do this so it’s more convenient to sell movements to other manufacturers as the other manufacturers can say Kinissi is their movement manufacturer and not Tudor.

The real reason why they switched to inhouse movement is that ETA has no obligation anymore to provide movements to watchmaker outside swatch group since 2020. Also since 2013 they reduced sales outside swatch group every year. They were obligated for long time as they had quiet a monopole in Switzerland.

I have a 2021 Tudor BB Heritage with the burgundy version. The movement is insane. It is quartz accurate. I love wearing the watch. An adjustable clasp would be a great addition. Coincidentally, I also own a white Omega 300m with a bracelet and an Omega rubber band. Great minds think alike….
When the Black Bay came out it was thick with a flat case back and a ETA movement. Then Tudor tried to fit in their in house movement (if you can call it that) which didn’t fit so they had to bow the case back out which is a bit of a bodge. This is over 10 years ago and they still haven’t fixed the awful case thickness problem. It’s not like they don’t have a thinner movement because the 58 has one and the 58 is still Tudor’s masterpiece. Unfortunately the prices are now too high for a second tier homage brand with a good few quality issues and a huge thickness problem on many models. I know people with date wheel problems bezels falling off misaligned applied marker’s to name a few. I had a Black Bay 41 on release day and the fit and finish the box and the extra NATO was all better that the Black Bay 58 I bought a year ago. I wouldn’t buy another one unfortunately especially at their new prices.

Good evening Harrison, Great energetic coverage, as per usual you do not disappoint. On my wrist today funnily enough is a tudor Blackbay, burgundy bezel with in-house movement edition. I love this watch ! And I totally understand why you love yours also. I totally agree with you regarding the burgundy option, I picked this colour choice as it had pop and punch within the dial, as well as the vintage style dial, the contrast of gold and red goes hand in hand. I think you should keep it but if you feel you want an in house movement eventually purchase a different colour. But see how you feel in the future.
@Chisholm Hunter although It maybe difficult to justify getting another colour which is how I feel, so my plan is: this year before Christmas, (before the price increases again, if it does) I will purchase the GMT Blackbay (on brown leather strap) as I do not have a GMT in my collection. BUT change the brown strap for a blue strap as it would look totally different from the Burgundy on steel bracelet plus satisfying the GMT Addition. Just a suggestion Harrison :)

Wearing my new Black Bay heritage with blue bezel insert. The blue helps dress it down a bit for daily wear but the overall look on leather strap allows it to be acceptable in a more formal setting.

ETA burgundy is collectible . I sold mine for more than I paid for it. It was too big for my 17cm. wrist and was getting banged up. I sold it to help with the purchase of my Zenith El Primero.
