      I saw them at the Colonial in Toronto in 1972. And Pinetop played teh Harvest Festival in Fredericton in 1996. I sat with Pinetop on his flight to Toronto that Sept 15 since I was going to Toronto from Fredericton to see my less than 15 hour old grand-daughter.

      For me it's Dick Dale. He played the East Coast once a year, and I swore I was going every year for something like 8 years. Never did, and then it was too late.

      I had tickets to see him and Lightnin Hopkins at a Jazz Festival in London 1981. It got called off due to civil unrest in the city. They moved it to a different venue and I was unable to get there transport wise. To this day I regret not making a bigger effort to get there

    Just saw Luther 'Guitar Jr.' Johnson, Muddy's rhythm guitarist on this video, in early August at the Barnful of Blues in New Boston. He's well into his 70's now and his health is not the greatest but I wanna tell you he rocked that house like he was in his prime. He's every bit the gentleman. He's kind and encouraging to all he meets and occasionally shows up at our Thursday nite jams in Peterboro, NH at La Mia Casa. In fact, I got to play harp one nite through an amp that was likely on the stage for this gig.

    To Wiki, That is not correct. I played with Pinetop for five years.
    The woman was no choirgirl, she was a drunken angry wife who
    thought from behind that Pinetop was her cheating husband.
    She hit him from behind to try to kill him, she missed and opened up
    his entire left arm. The band took him to a white doctor, who refused to see him.
    So they drove 20 min. to a black doctor who wanted to remove his arm.
    The band said no way and he was stitched up. Unable to fret a guitar he went to piano.

    Champagne and Reefer are but mere appatizers compared to this gotdamn dish!
    Unfortunately the blues is dying....when Muddy went, it marked the end of an era. The old greats pretty much took the blues with em...don't get me wrong, the blues is still twitching, but someday soon it's gonna cough and void it's bowels...and that will be the end of that.
    I play guitar at least as well as muddy does here (he's not playing much, and I don't like to brag;), and I can play a lil drums, bass naturally, and bluesharp also(bass, guitar, and harmonica are very similar as far as sound so once you've mastered one, you can pretty well play the other 2)...hell I can even play piano some, I just never got "into it" enough to actually play it for any length of time....but I digress, I really wish there was some kind of blues revival sweeping the world...something like that could turn out OK for me, but knowing my luck i'll just be on my ass smoking reefer and bending strings for the rest of my life lol..hearing nothing but beyonce and nicki minaj and beiber on the radio for the next half century!

    • @nickb3250
      @nickb3250 9 років тому +2

      Blues will never die. All art/culture is cyclical. Nothing I love more than playing blues. Been in rock/blues groups since I was 14. We were just some white boys who thought the blues was cool, but I keep the records spinning and play along with a low ball of bourbon and my Gibson now at age 26. Now I'm old enough to have felt the blues and I've got the guitar chops to play it. It'll always be the music that helps celebrate the good and pull through the bad.
      My kids (when I have them) will grow up with the good stuff too.

    • @TheKiller-yh3pi
      @TheKiller-yh3pi 9 років тому

      Yeah, man, I guess your right. As long as at least 1 bluesman is around, the blues will be too. Maybe someday the blues will make a nearly-mainstream comeback..that'd be fire.
      You and your band ever get paid gigs anywhere?
      That'd be sweet...gotta pay for all that Kentucky bourbon ya dig!

    • @nickb3250
      @nickb3250 9 років тому

      Bertram Greene Ha. Nah. We just played at parties and for ourselves.

    • @josephkirby305

      In a spiritual sense, blues has been around forever and will be around as long as there are people still breathing. I play with a blues trio doing mostly blues styles that are closer to my grandparents' age than to mine, and we get regular paid gigs. I have no illusions that I'll "make it" into the mainstream doing the style of music I do (mostly Piedmont and old Delta blues), but I'm keeping it alive in Arkansas. I hope you're doing the same wherever you are.
