A few years before Mr.Perkins passed, I was assigned to be his temporary caretaker. I loved taking him down to 6th St, Austin Texas. We always got celebrity status when we arrived. Mr.Perkins was an amazing man. And he loved to show his living room walls, covered with pictures of him and famous people, and Presidents and politicians. He would always tell me that he "came from the honey". And to be honest, I still don't know what that meant. I do miss him.
@@tomkling8317 Thanks. I truly never understood that. But he really was a great man. I do miss him, and I'm happy to be able to listen to him even today.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again: jazz and the blues are at the heart of all great music. Can you feel it all the way down in the depths of your soul? I can!
I met Pinetop in July of 2000 in Lexington Ky at a Blues Festival, he was gracious & genuinely humble, an incredible man, touched by God, still on the road, sharing his gifts, collecting the jewels in his crown. Someday I hope to walk into an old honky tonk in heaven for a cold beer, and see him singing at the piano, and hear him say, "I remember you"
Pinetop played at the Fredericton Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in 1996. Our grand-daughter was born in Ontario as he was finishing his set. I was on the plane to Toronto with him on Sept. 15 as he returned to Chicago and I went to hold my new grandchild. It was an honour to share a plane ride with him. Fabulous musician and a truly humble human being.
Pinetop Perkins, saw him in Minneapolis back in 2006 at the prime age of 93, what an incredible performance, a true performer, gentleman, most of all incredible music that touched our soul to the core. Rest in peace, may your heavenly music play on and on and on, thank you for your contribution mate
Grew up with friends and family hammering the piano -- our only family treasure -- and raising their voices in harmony for fun. This sweet intonation and lighthearted plea goes right into my heart, wish they were all here.
What a wonderful comment Betsy, those were the best times when friends or family would gather around a piano. When I was young, every bar or pub had a piano and you could walk in and start playing and the next thing everyone gathered around. Now you hardly ever see a piano in bar. Merry Xmas
I saw Pinetop Perkins somewhere around the year 2000 in Connecticut. After the show he stayed around, sat down and visited with anyone who wanted to say hello. I bought a CD and he autographed it. Nice guy. I'm so glad I got to shake his hand and spend a few minutes with him.
ChouChou Keel-Smith brought Pinetop out to my house to play. A gentleman and great soul. I bought a CD from him every time I saw him at the Broken Spoke, and I was there a lot. He told me, 'I'm gonna call you Mama" Thank god for all his recordings. I can't do without.

If you can believe wikipedia, then what I really wanna know how the hell he got into a knife fight with a chorus girl. Man, she must have been one tough mama. Not your typical chorus girl I guess if she's packing a blade. And what chorus? like a church chorus? did they often gig at places where they needed knives? Did he ever write a tune about that?

That is a very special story
He was born on the Honey Island Plantation near Belzoni, Mississippi. That's why he "came from the Honey"

The thirteen thumbs down,(you know who you are), should stick to "Disco" something more their speed!
Richard Emery I liked disco. A few from then are still on my Alive list. I like this. There’s blues on that list too. ;-)
As Duke Ellington says, there two categories of music : good music and bad music. This is very good music by one of the best blues player.
The truth
Cuandos bpm??
Hi, 12/8 time, 60 bpm
sounds like the piano is bending
