This is why it's good to always keep the engine in a good state of tune. Clean plugs and proper ignition. Same with carb; spotless and set correctly. Very nice.
Or for carb, ditch those s&s shit boxes or old bending carbs and slap a mikuni on them ol haeys and they really come to life and the sound of the engine sucking air is a bonus.
In AZ S&S work great!! And talk about junk, who runs with no air cleaner or at least a screen, something. Wonder how many times his pants get sucked into the carb!! Looks neat but not smart thing to do.
1981 xs650 bobber owner. Kickstarter is the only way to go. Nothing like pulling up to new riders and kick starting a bike. Love the shovelhead vids. Anxiously waiting for the next hardtail build in the new year Merry Christmas to all the Lane Splitters out there
No it's really not. There's this badass thing to save knees, ankles and pride. It's called an electric starter. Sure, if you're so cool you have to take front brakes off, hack up some makeshift hardtail, remove the fenders, make it look like shit to call it a bobber, yeah man, kick start is the way. Some day, you'll grow up and realize you can ride a lot longer rides with suspension, brakes and fenders. I've had rigids with no fenders and kick start only. Fun and cool for a minute. Comparing a Japanese kick only to an old Harley is 3 worlds of difference. While you're attempting and failing to look cool, I'm laughing. My 73 shovelhead is kick or electric leg. Since I can tune a Harley-Davidson, I can kick it easily or just reach and hit the button. Come holler at me when you can and do kick 98-100 cubic inch, high compression old Harleys and tell me how kickers are the only way. Whata dweebert
I was once told by a owner "You always have to watch for everything engine related being OK and fix it immediatly if necessary to keep it reliable." No "I will take care of it later".
I’ve got two shovels and an evo and all three run S&S shorty E. Best carb I’ve ever run for a stock or slightly modified engine. I have tried the B series the SU the Bendix , CV in the evo and Mikuni on both engines and Also tried a quick silver for a short period and liked it the least.
Miss you All. To the Harleys of the world. You make my world spin. Thank you. Forever in your debt. Sarah Emily Carlson You save my life every second.❤️❤️⭐
It's awesome how she starts, right up. I remember watching my pops kicking his 53 panhead chopper for what seemed like hours when I was a kid. He sure got a laugh watching me try to kick it over about 15 years ago, but he's been with God for the last 10 years , and I haven't a clue about what happened to the bike.😢 RIP Bill Hawkins
Well done son, got her right. Timing- Idle- enrichment kick it over turn key on- get it on top. They say a shovelhead says potato potato potato. But. I've always thought it sounded more like, Giddy up giddy up giddy up 🌬✌️
Remember compression can be different in a pan or knuckle etc... I grew up in the 70s when almost all bikes were kick start. Some easier than others. I never saw guys or gals kick on one side ( which I see alot now, with younger riders today) so great to see him do it this way! But moral of story, is do it how it works for you 👍
1 kicker .sounds like it had been riden or at least fired up earlier . He took the choke off immediately and went to idling bike wasn't cold . I had a 77 shov El. When it was warmed up I could start it with my hand it only had to turn it over little bit . Something else my old scooter left its mark everywhere it went .little puddle oil .hell I took a pic . Of my scooter one time , framed it AND hung it on the and it leaked oil ..fkn true story
there was a dispute on the internet about the s&s shovelhead, about its quality and "originality", they say it's not the same engine that was in 69, and that if you want a real engine, look for the original. A question for people who understand this topic (I myself am a young, inexperienced fan of hd, and I dream of getting one): is this true?
Sick. Thought reliable shovels were a myth. That bike solid.
Gotta treat em right son
It’s an s&s mofor
Nice and warmed up already
No, most people are too stupid to learn to work on them and keep them adjusted to kick. My 69 was a one kick starter 99.9% of the time.
@@constantineofamerica1555 No it's not!, Check out there channel.

Yes for the Mikuni kits. Very good upgrade.
@@donhenderson5100 yes it is. I'll never want another $&$ carb. They're junk and too expensive. Thr miki is cheap and easy
S&S stands for "Spit & Sputter"

Nothing like it til it takes 50 kicks....and they ask you if you wanna try and bum start it.
An XS650 you have to kick start it, because the electric starter was junk. I had a 72.
@iccus62 Yeah when it starts acting like a Bultaco and it cranks when IT
Nothing like pulling up to new riders, and then starting your bike. Yeah man.
This is music to my soul
I was once told by a owner "You always have to watch for everything engine related being OK and fix it immediatly if necessary to keep it reliable." No "I will take care of it later".

Love the bike I would like to see a spring of front end and a narrow front wheel but awesome bike nonetheless
Things of joy a fine tuned bike

I've always thought it sounded more like, Giddy up giddy up giddy up 🌬✌️
Nothing sounds like a shovel with straight pipes
No 1 motor Sound❤
Yeah man Ride On ❤
How does the s&s carb perform perform with that air cleaner? Any tuning issues? Flat spots? Etc. I’m thinking about putting one on my bike.
low idle sound always makes my brain go brrrrrrrrrr
What front tire you running?
Looks dope
Aqui no Brasil é só biz, pop, fan, broz só tranqueira
Этот звук… ну просто песня 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Music is my ears
Badass bike
What a beast!!!!
Good decision of putting a decompressor❤
I've always wondered, if the clutch is pulled will it keep it from kicking back?
The best Harley project. Myth.
Shovelhead forever ❤❤❤
glad you spun the fender mounts off the front forksss. s
OMG!FINALLY! Someone who actually knows how to kick start a motorcycle.
Que bien que está!!!
Prefect!
Now that's how you start a motorcycle!!
sounds good!
Takes a real man to kickstart without jumping on it.

It's worn out no compression left
Tennis shoes is dead giveaway
Panhead bottom end shovel sweet
Lovely 👍 the new ones don't have any character it's hard to pick these engines up now everyone is hanging on to them and are very desirable
SWEET, LOVE THAT CHOP!
Old generator shovel, nice
Cuál es el motivo de no poner arranque eléctrico?
Looks really good bro do you ever think about maybe some old school mags on it they have a beautiful Christmas with your family and your buddies 😁❤️💙
That shit is so gangster! I fucking love it!
Is it a '66?' '67? '68 or '69?
Awesome
The real Zombie of Gta 4
Cute... I say that out of pure jealousy. Beautiful bike.
