I have the same model and I agree with BAD things : 1, 2 and 4. I don't find plastics problematic... For n° 5, I bought the motorola dongle to make Android Auto wireless. One missing bad that I really HATE : the very limited and annoying way to pre-condition the battery before charging : you need to navigate to the charging station using Hyundai's GPS, and sometimes it even doesn't know the charging station.. so no possibility to pre-condition. Hyundai should allow to manually set pre-conditioning. For all the rest this car is FANTASTIC ! It's the best car I have ever owned... and my previous car was the Audi Q7 SUV !
I have 2023 Ioniq 5 SE long range. Love it so much! The one and only really annoying thing on this model is no electronic hatch lift. I actually have to get out of the car to open the hatch. But am still very happy with the car. The best thing for me is the quiet, gentle ride and comfortable seats.
I am also an Ioniq 5 owner having picked up mine earlier in the year, however mine is a lower spec more basic model. My number one dislike is the lack of a rear wiper which has greatly diminished my enthusiasm for the car, in fact I would advise anyone thinking of buying one to think again until this is resolved. I also think that the software setup is overly fussy and impossible to use safely while driving which is why I stick to the buttons while on the road. On mine the door handles do not pop out when unlocked so on a dark wet night it is no fun trying to open them from the outside particularly if you have a passenger who is unfamiliar with the model. If I sound like I hate the I5 that is not the case, in fact it has to be the most comfortable and relaxing car I have ever driven including my last five cars which were all Mercedes.
@sarahann530 Silly comment. If you drive in winter where they salt and gravel the roads, you will be very sorry that you don't have a rear wiper. And that is driving forward.
Thank you for putting the lack of a rear window wiper up front! It's a true safety hazard. Many of us have contacted Hyundai about this and have gotten no response at all. Hopefully if they come out with it in 2024, they will offer a retrofit to those of us with earlier models.
For me that rear wiper is not that important. Am I the only one driving on side mirrors? (I did drive vans also...maybe that explains) And for parking the camera is eneough. Also the newer ioniq 5 can get a mirror inside working with the camera. (Not sure if that is in every country)
Tonally agree about the lack of rear windscreen wiper and so glad you mentioned the rattling rear seatbelts. However the good definitely outweighs the bad,
I bought a 23 Ioniq 5 a couple weeks ago, and while i agree with the some of the bad items, i feel you missed a major one which is the middle rear head rest. I am 6' 3" (1.9 M) and the middle head rest is in the way when looking in the rear view mirror. All said, I am very pleased with the vehicle!
remove the headrest, easy, mine from my Hyundai I35 has been in storage since day one. must remember to refit it when sold ! Also get used to your wing mirrors thats what there there for. Yes we were taught to look in the rear view mirror when taking the test, but its mainly an out of date thing imo
I use the side mirrors most (in any car). Does not bother me . I'm 6 feet 2''. And for parking dide mirror and cameras. Yes, the view is not optimal IF you want of use that view.
The negatives for me are the rear wiper, the lack of physical buttons for the heated seats, lack of wireless carplay, the way you have to be using their nav system to use the battery preconditioning and the price of almost $60,000 for the limited. The price is really the only dealbreaker for me. The positives are the 320 hp with over 250 miles of range, the cool styling, a nice buttons, knob and switches, a good selection of colors and practical size. I’ve test driven it and I like it a lot but I don’t get a $60,000 feel when I’m in it. I think Hyundai and Kia are really knocking it out of the park.
Apple Car Play demanded a too-high license (screen size is said to be the issue) so Hyundai dropped the wireless connection for both Car Play and Android Auto. (The hardware is there but not enabled.)
Great summary. I have had this car (same colour) for 2 years. I love it but the lack of the rear windscreen wiper is just dangerous. It's the only reason I'm considering to change my car. Seems stupid I know to spend all the money changing a car for such an seemingly minor point, but I often have zero visibility out of the back of the car. Item 2 about the rear seat belts is also very true. Drives my crazy. My wife's e-Niro is just the same (at least she gets a rear windscreen wiper!).
I also live in the UK and owned 2 Ioniq 5 Ultimates but the last had Tech pack. The first was faultless but the last one totally disappointing. It begun with severe wheel vibrations and took 19 weeks before the tyres were changed because Hyundai don’t warranty tyres. Once they were removed it became obvious the inner sponge used to improve road noise had come adrift and was a messy lump causing severe balance issues. Hot weather and standing on hard surfaces while waiting for shipping the most likely cause but Hyundai wouldn’t admit fault. That cost over £1,300 to fix. To make matters worse the heater/aircondition system was also faulty. Cold winter and the heater got beyond hot before switching off and it wouldn’t come back once the car cooled so we had to find somewhere to park up and make several attempts to restart the heater. The same when it needed the aircon, both totally unreliable but with having a very wet year the inside of the car would rapidly mist up while driving and the only solution was to use cloths and drive with windows down. Not ideal when it’s freezing cold and pelting with rain. After a full year the dealer has been forced to take it back but at huge cost to us. I’m neither daft nor stupid but I’m ordering the next gen Ioniq 5 N-Line S. it’s got larger battery, matrix headlights, built in heat pump, REAR wiper and I love the Heads Up Display and safety features. Despite all the problems, which can and often does with every manufacturer, I’ve had many luxury and sports cars in my 60 years of driving. The Ioniq 5 is probably one of the best, safest and practical cars built today. My main niggle with EVs using VW components and software is their method of accessing things like cruise control, lane control etc. the Hyundai can control these essentials by hard buttons (not touch) on the steering wheel. Lane assist is lethal in the UK because the edges of our roads are in such poor state. Sunken drains or crumbling edges forces you to take evasive action. No time to mess around with indicators or turning off lane assist via a complex onboard laptop out of reach. Motorway cruise with assisted driving is brilliant but not if the map that controls your speed is wrong and it slams your brakes on just in front of a 44 ton truck. Unfortunately so many EVs in the UK now use VW parts there’s not much choice which is why the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is king for me.
Your comments about the rear seat buckles getting flipped around are spot-on. Honestly that's my biggest gripe with the car (I've owned one for a year). It's not a huge deal but I definitely notice it when they get flipped around
I could live with the bad things, although I also wish the Ioniq 5 had a rear window wiper (of course, my Model 3 doesn't have one either, so I'm used to that inconvenience). I agree with and want the good things you list. However, your frunk is larger than the models here in the USA, and I envy it. Someone was saying that the regulations here mandate that there has to be a release button to open the frunk, in case a child climbed inside it. Hyundai didn't want to add even more complication to the vehicle, so opted to just make the frunk too small for a child to crawl into. Tsk.
If you have an AWD the trunk will be smaller anyway. No place for a bigger trunk. I suppose that , due to rules, all ioniq models in the USA will have the one developed for the AWD versions.
I don’t have a rear wiper on my Tesla Y and it doesn’t get dirty. Munro live are currently reverse engineering the Ioniq 5 (not sure of the production year. I would love the “lazy boy” type front seats. It’s a 3rd party option for Tesla. Great video!
The angle of the rear window is less sloping and therefore self cleaning. For rear windows thats more straight downward like stations wagons, you need rear wipers.
great video! i love these 10 things about the i5. I read that the reason they didn't have wireless android auto is because of their licensing with tomtom their navigation system and didn't want to compete with it, any ideas?
The reason i got from Hyundai is that it's a stability issue and that they think it's not stable enough for wireless. But at the same time that only goes for the advanced package (tech pack) and not for base model that has wireless support. So doesn't really make sense for me. More leaning towards a licensing issue or lack of component.
I liked how the turn signal taillights are amber coloured and separated from the brakes (which is a thin amber line while the rectangle brakes is 3 pixels tall. And then there’s the NA version (I live in Canada) where the pixel rectangle is 4 pixels taller and the turn signal taillight blinks inside the rectangle brake lights (which is the same colour as the brakes). I don’t mind both colours but to be more safer I prefer the accurate amber colour which could be nice if brought to NA.
Interesting new goodies! I have a 2022 Limited US model. I noticed the new passenger seat controls on the side of the seat, and also that the passenger gets the full recline with leg (calf) rest.
Using wired AA or ACP allows you to charge the phone and provides better sound quality. I noticed the RWD has a much larger frunk since there is no motor up front.
I live in the UK so having no rear wiper is a huge no for me. I wouldn't buy a car without one and I'm dismayed that more and more cars, especially EV's, are coming without them fitted.
It's dependent on the angle of the rear window. If it's more flat like on a model y it's mostly not needed. But with a more vertical angle like the Ioniq 5 it's really needed.
Thank you about rear seatbelts , I have a Mitsubishi outlander PHEV . There is a rattle on my right rear , you might have given me a possible cure . I like the Ionic 5 perhaps in 2027 . Cheers !
The incandescent yellow glow of the left side trunk light and two vanity lights is my personal bugbear. Everything else is white LED! Sure - it's a super cheap and easy fix, but then I have to wonder why on earth Hyundai couldn't do it, having put so much effort into aesthetics.
Couple of more bad things: * huge turning radius. I can't still get used to it. * long system boot time. Very annoying. * The lower part of the windshield gets frozen in the winter, so the wipers cant work properly * the cruise control is ancient. I got really surprised. It works exactly like on Kia from 2016 * no hooks in the trunk
A car as this can be pre heated (use bluelink) NEVER frozen issues when I pre heat. Especially when you're at home connected to the grid, because it will not rduce range.
@@reiniernn9071 the problem happens when I'm driving in the winter. The ice starts covering the wipers, and it gets hard to clean the windshield properly 😊
@@vadimprudnikov9072 Which temperature? I never noticed this (yes I heat the front window at snbow fall). Other issues what I noticed with heavy snowfall. ..Snow on my bumper blocks the ascc, radars and , due to the cold led head lights, can block the head lights. Temp minus 6 celsius. But also previous cars from me had those issues with ASCC, parking radars etc.
I rented an Ioniq 5 for two days. After the first day I read up on the heated seats as their operation was not obvious to me. Actually, pushing one button and one tap on the screen is absolutely fine. Every reviewer jumps on this feature as being so bad when really it’s not.
It's not the to tapps that's the problem. Once you know how to do it's fine and dandy. It's the layout and the way the UI works that can be at bit confusion in the beginning.
Yes, these cars can be a bit confusing at first is right. I never did try to figure out how to use the cruise control during those two days. No problem, I’m picking up my 2023 Ioniq 5 in two days.
Very good review, nobody else talks about these things. Also the car has high depreciation . I looked at resales and the money loss is staggering. I will skip this car.
Muchas gracias por el video. tienes razon no tiene 1 limpiaparabrisas trasero, resto negativo, falta 2 faros niebla delanteros y trasero ¿donde esta?🤔 ❓❓❓
I disagree with the Android Auto/Carplay. I switch out fleet cars often and every car I've driven with wireless AA has comnections problems. I just finished driving a Mach E for 3 months and the wireless AA was annoyingly cutting off randomly and many times wouldn't reconnect or wven connect when I got in ghe vehicle. And it's not a Mach E problem because every wireless AA car I've driven does it. Probabaly 6 to 7 different manufacturers and 12 different models of experience. The Ioniq 5 wires one works seamlessly. Connects immediately and stays connected. And another plus is I can have it on with a VPN running which doesn't happen in a wireless.
Get your point. If it loses connection then its vad. I have a totally different experience. I have never had those problems and tested long trips in a lot of brands and models with my pixel 8 Pro. Maybe it's more connected to what phone and version of AA you run?
Looking at the Ioniq 5 as an option to replace my aging Tesla because a sell off deal on the old model makes it much cheaper than a Model Y. Having to connect a phone at all for anything other than calls seems clunky, and a wired connection is a step back about 15 years! I was also surprised that it was even still allowed to sell a car with USB-A in Europe in 2024 😂
You missed the truly worst thing. There is no spare tire. Who drives a car with no spare tire? I know, there's a tire repair kit. Did you ever try to repair a blowout on the side wall with a tire repair kit? Cannot be done! Blow out a tire and you'll wait two days at least to have your car towed and the tire replaced hopefully at a nearby Hyundai agency provided of course that the given agency is EV certified and to service your ionic five. A $500 experience, minimum. I dealt with this by purchasing a full-size wheel and full-size tire. I keep it as a spare in that very spacious trunk, not so spacious any longerwith the essential spare, taking up half the space.
What? Where do you live? Kongo? Mongolia? Burkina Faso? No, they do better than that in Burkina Faso. I ripped a tire on an object fallen off a truck. I called Hyundai, they sent me a tow truck with a courtesy car and I was 20 minutes late for work. I picked up my car on my way home and all of that cost me exactly nothing. The towing part was covered by Hyundai, the tires by insurance. Much better experience than changing wheels on a busy road in the snow. Spare wheels are a thing of the past and in some developping countries. In fact that incident about 4 years ago with my 28kWh Ioniq was the only time I had a flat tire outside of Africa in 40 years of driving.
tens of thousands of us drive without a spare. I have not had a puncture in 20 years or so. My wife had one 2 weeks ago, and thats the first time for about the same period. Of course if one buys cheap tyres, and or runs them bald or nearly so, or if one hit curbs, then expect a puncture.
The only punctures I had....were solved with some air (compressor).... may be 2 times in 30 years. It took the tyre one week before alarm from the pressure guarding. They repaired the tyre with a plug. (Was a previous cars)
Bad 6) need to confirm changes in terms and conditions which are impossible to confirm. Bad 7) always "keep your hands on the steering wheel", even if I touch it with two hands.
I'm not so much fussy with the quality of the materials. It just looks cool. Also, the movable center cubby space and console makes getting in or out of the car from the opposite side should one be a selfish dick and park too close to one side. And if I were to switch from my Merc A180 to this should be simple because the gear selector is on the same side as I would use as a right handed driver.
Each car requires some adjustment. I don’t understand why you qualify that as bad. I have a Tesla 3 and I still learn new things after 6 months. The ioniq5 2024 should offer wireless apple car play. Apparently there will be an update to add it to previous years ones. More to come.
The HI5 is THE car which is by far the best in spending long long time at the dealership for all kind of structural problems! My gosh…. Worst car Ive ever owned in over 30years…. And only owned around 40 cars orso….
@@ItsOnlyElectric welll….. in 30k km: - 3x failure iccu - broken drive shafts - roof is loose…… - broken battery 12v - front seats are loose… - broken waterpump airco - rattles all over tha place - vibrations because of the 20 inch rims And so in and so on….. in 6 Months I could only use it for 2 Months, rest of the time at the dealership for repairs….. terrible bad quality 🤬
Everyone sees things in different ways. This is my opinions. 🙂 But most of the things are really not show stoppers at all. In total a really nice car. 👍
You missed the absolute worst thing about the car. The fact that the doors don't automatically lock when you walk away. And it advertised it is sticking out
Should be possible...somewhere in the setups. Also locking with blulink app is an option (working fine, I use that....open the car or close the car...in winter starting climatization.)
Of course it's a fantastic car. 🙂 I always do honest reviews and for me 5 good vs 5 bad is a part of that. Reviews with only good things = commercials. 😉
This video is a waste of time. If you are nitpicking stupid little things, like seatbealts not going in the right place [which can happen with any and every car], and dashboards etc, about this car that bad, DON'T BUY IT!!!!! I've test driven the SEL many times, and just test drove a limited the other day, these cars very are nice!!! I have a 2020 Sonata and it's nice also. Hyundai is an overall nice vehicle. The Ioniq was built to be sustainable so the materials will be a bit different. I have watch many videos online. The ones from "The Ioniq Guy" I find to be more reliable.
To be fair, if you had ever had to drive the I5 listening to the rattle from the seat belt buckle against the hard plastic which is a well known irritation you might change your mind !. I had to fit stick on pads on my plastic panel to eliminate the problem.
Funny how you prefer Ioniq videos from a guy who is literally called "The Ioniq Guy" -- sounds like he's compromised. You should be happy that this guy was only able to find minor things to complain about, right??

How have the white seats faired? Do you feel you need to be overly careful with the white trim?
That was a press car so don't know how it looks today, sorry. Blue jeans tend to color the seats but usually it's possible to wipe away.
Would you change your VW Id for the Ioniq 5?
All day and every day!
Anything better than vw.
Nice chanel. My new favourite about EV's. 🙂
Thank you! Glad to hear that you like it. 👍
Cheers !
Great, I hope it helps you. Rattles can be very annoying! 😂
wiper maybe, but use your mirrors like truckers do. The rest is indeed picky.
The incandescent yellow glow of the left side trunk light and two vanity lights is my personal bugbear. Everything else is white LED! Sure - it's a super cheap and easy fix, but then I have to wonder why on earth Hyundai couldn't do it, having put so much effort into aesthetics.
Did not notice that. Sounds like and easy fix for Hyundai
@@ItsOnlyElectric Replacement white bulbs are cheap.
Couple of more bad things:
* huge turning radius. I can't still get used to it.
* long system boot time. Very annoying.
* The lower part of the windshield gets frozen in the winter, so the wipers cant work properly
* the cruise control is ancient. I got really surprised. It works exactly like on Kia from 2016
* no hooks in the trunk
Thanks for you findings
A car as this can be pre heated (use bluelink)
NEVER frozen issues when I pre heat.
Nice! I'll bet you will enjoy it!
Very good review, nobody else talks about these things.
Also the car has high depreciation .
I looked at resales and the money loss is staggering.
I will skip this car.
Im glad you liked it.
@@ItsOnlyElectric your review is great. And your delivery...
Can you control your settings etc in the display via voice commands?
Yes, not all but some of them.
@@ItsOnlyElectric can you give some examples what works with voice commands?
Seat heating and cooling, cabin temperature, set destination for navigation etc.
Muchas gracias por el video. tienes razon no tiene 1 limpiaparabrisas trasero, resto negativo, falta 2 faros niebla delanteros y trasero ¿donde esta?🤔 ❓❓❓
Good point! Greetings from Sweden.
Wired connection is better than wireless, to disconnect just plug out your cable, easy
That's true..wireless is a mess to disconnect since it's keep reconnecting.
Looking at the Ioniq 5 as an option to replace my aging Tesla because a sell off deal on the old model makes it much cheaper than a Model Y. Having to connect a phone at all for anything other than calls seems clunky, and a wired connection is a step back about 15 years! I was also surprised that it was even still allowed to sell a car with USB-A in Europe in 2024 😂
I think it has wireless support now and there's a facelift coming later this year.
Unfortunately that's the case for almost all new cars on the market. Not a single ev I have tried has a spare wheel.
Thanks for watching. 👍
@@adrianguggisberg3656 Good old Hyundai......
tens of thousands of us drive without a spare.
Thanks for adding to the list. 😂 Do you agree with the 5 bads?
the rear wiper is coming on the N version
So they will mount a wiper to the N but not the regular version that's made in the same factory? Or will they be manufactured in different factories?
No matter what for now Inoniq 5 &N are the best EVs in the world.
I think the worst thing is the gear shifting, it's just not intuitive and takes time to get used to (from driving a Tesla Model X)
there are no gears mate
@@rivergladesgardenrailroad8834 I meant going from D to R and vice versa with the twist motion
Yes, that feature is really nice.
Each car requires some adjustment. I don’t understand why you qualify that as bad. I have a Tesla 3 and I still learn new things after 6 months. The ioniq5 2024 should offer wireless apple car play. Apparently there will be an update to add it to previous years ones. More to come.
👍
My 2024 the dash is all wrapped in the limitef
That's a welcome update
Only bad thing is the turning radius. It is a shit to. Park in a small parking lot..
Apart from the rear wiper ...nothing to compare.....
How about reading a manual? That's why they exist.
In any specific regard?
SUNDAY-MONDAY-HUNDAY!! Simple to pronounce correctly according to the factory representative. It is a fact.
Super-easy!
The HI5 is THE car which is by far the best in spending long long time at the dealership for all kind of structural problems! My gosh…. Worst car Ive ever owned in over 30years…. And only owned around 40 cars orso….
Interesting, what kind of problems did you have?
@@ItsOnlyElectric welll….. in 30k km:
- 3x failure iccu
- broken drive shafts
- roof is loose……
- broken battery 12v
- front seats are loose…
- broken waterpump airco
- rattles all over tha place
- vibrations because of the 20 inch rims
And so in and so on….. in 6 Months I could only use it for 2 Months, rest of the time at the dealership for repairs….. terrible bad quality 🤬
Wow! That sounds really bad. Is this common of did you get a bad one?
@@ItsOnlyElectric more common as you would like…. Majority of the issues are part of TSBs…….
Top 5 worst: 1,2 and 5 totally agree, 3, 4 are BS
Everyone sees things in different ways. This is my opinions. 🙂 But most of the things are really not show stoppers at all. In total a really nice car. 👍
I know, I love it
Number 6 of good things. You can tow 1600 kg.
Agree!
BRING BACK THE HYUNDAI PONY, BEST CAR EVER MADE, THE STELLAR ALSO WAS YEAR'S AHEAD OF IT'S TIME, 😂
😂
You missed the absolute worst thing about the car. The fact that the doors don't automatically lock when you walk away. And it advertised it is sticking out
That's annoying!
Should be possible...somewhere in the setups.
Also locking with blulink app is an option (working fine, I use that....open the car or close the car...in winter starting climatization.)
@@reiniernn9071 it isn't possible

@@ItsOnlyElectric becuz they are overpriced and they under perform
So easy solution that it makes it extra frustrating. 😅
Funny how you prefer Ioniq videos from a guy who is literally called "The Ioniq Guy" -- sounds like he's compromised. You should be happy that this guy was only able to find minor things to complain about, right??
@@zerxer I'm also dubious about a lot of these "reviews", particularly from guys who point you in the direction of aftermarket accessories. While some are useful a lot are direct you to site for the manufacturers of the cars. One thing I would buy if it became available is a USB data socket that I can reach while driving and not to have to crawl under the dash!.
I love seeing the negatives about a product too. You seem to be a fanboi though.
Never buy a Hyundai
Why not?
